Updates to the Crunchyroll Queue Experience

Hey everyone,

You may have noticed that we’ve recently removed the manual queue sorting function on the Crunchyroll website. We understand that this may be frustrating, but there’s a good reason for it!

We’re currently working on some significant changes to enhance the Crunchyroll queue experience, such as providing new ways to sort, filter, and curate your watchlists. Another exciting change we’ve been working on is the ability to replicate these functions on our Android and iOS mobile apps, as well as Android TV!

To ensure that these new features can be implemented on the website back-end in the least disruptive way, we’ve had to make an intermediate update to the service, which involved removing the manual sorting option.

We’re hoping to roll out some of these exciting new features in the near future, so please bear with us while we work on creating the best possible experience for you!

Thank you for the update. It's nice to know that this is not the final result and that we can expect more improvements to the queue in the future.

It's meaningless unless you bring back a manual sort order that you can change at will, save and revert back to after doing some other kind of temporary-only sort.

Thanks for the update, but you really should have made this announcement much sooner after you changed the queue. Hasn't it been at least three weeks since things changed? IMO, that's too long to let users suffer through what's intended to be a temporary change without any information about what's going on. Please inform us more promptly about major changes like this in the future. Thanks.

One thing that could help is if things with new or unwatched episodes could move to the top of the queue... But I'm sure you'd create more issues from shows that get dubs bouncing to the top when a subtitle watcher had already finished the show.

Really, we just need a spot to put shows that we've finished, but plan on rewatching or really enjoyed, and then we can use the queue for it's intended purpose of just shows we're currently watching, or something like that. We shouldn't have to keep track on third-party sites like MAL or ANN as to which episode/show we have/haven't watched.

If we had something like a favorites list, that had an easy, one-click way to add shows back into the queue, that would be great, and having a button to do the reverse would be good as well.

Things that go to the top of the queue should really be things that we haven't watched yet that have new episodes, and not just things that we watched last.

A tile layout view would also let us go through larger queues much faster (but only in addition to a normal queue layout)

I guess you don't want me as a customer then. Because I don't use the Android or IOS app. I don't use Android TV. (In fact I refuse to use any Smart TV product. Ask me why…) I only watch on the web and you just degraded my experience hugely, without warning and without providing a remotely usable fallback option.

So you don't get my patience because I'm angry. And you don't get my understanding because it is clear you either don't understand my needs or care. Frankly, the whole way this was done reeks of bad management on your part. It certainly wasn't a user-centered decision.

I have lost faith in you and I do not believe you have made serving the best interests of your customers a goal.

Any news about a crunchyroll app being developed for Samsung Smart TV's? Is there any update or have you guys thought about releasing it on the platform?

Well said and nicer than I would have been. I second this.

Also what about roku? It'd be nice to see a breakdown of where people watch that is justifying your decision ... If you are even doing that.

Well, I'm glad to know there's a reason for this change! I miss being able to sort my queue how I see fit; I've not really been liking this new change. However, knowing that you're planning to improve things for the better is good to hear. I'll put up with it as is for now, but I look forward to seeing the improvements and hope that the "manual sort" will still be possible!
