Only 3 more episodes, this is going to end annoyingly.

...plus the 6-episode OVA. So technically we're only halfway through.

Can I vote for them to all move on and meet new people? Rikuo isn't meeting anyone at work, no one else ever hits on Haru?

they do, in the original material, but it need to be trimmed for the shorter anime version.

zkeletonIt's not just him though. She freaked out about Rikuo coming in to her place too. Like if he did it would automatically lead to them having sex. So this was about both of those.
Well, that whole social propriety thing isn't too uncommon in anime. Second-hand kisses, he saw something and now I can't get married, and so on.

Mostly though, it ties into her state of mind. She doesn't have an issue hanging with him when she thinks of him as a little brother of sorts, but when she figures out she's in that scene from Titanic, she panics and bugs out. Likewise with Rikuo. No problem when he was over helping her with electronics, but when she's thinking beyond-friend thoughts... She's basically just panicked about any relationship moving into the romantic realm.

It's why she wishes Rikuo was a bit more pushy. She knows she lacks the drive to, well, pretty much do anything worthwhile, for fear of losing the past and/or present.

Episode 10

Christmas continues with Rikuo giving Shinako a necklace as his Christmas gift, which is actually Taka's gift to Kozue that she gave to Rikuo. So after spending some time with Shinako, Rikuo is greeted by Haru, who offers some of the cafe's new bagels as her present. And then the new year comes with Rikuo having coffee over at Shinako's apartment when Shinako admits that she was approaching romance wrong, and that what she needs to do is to take it slow. Well, that was good to see that Shinako was going about this all wrong ever since Yuu passed away, and that she needs to take a step back. And with that, a new ending now that things have changed.

Gawd, the progress was expectedly slow this episode but the tension was so well done - my neck is hurting from it
I was thinking of Haru during that scene, and fortunately for her, she didn't really miss a thing.

New ED art isn't as cool as the retro gaming, but it is nice to see.

Damn. Some really nice moments and build up. But then Cliffhanger'd.

Not sure about the new ED. The retro shmup one was more interesting and I enjoyed the song more as well. The new one also feels a little out of step with where the series is currently as well. Especially given that it uses the name of the series in it, it would have worked better as the original ED as opposed to coming in this late.

Not a big fan of the new ED either. It would help if 1) the characters were on-model and 2) the singer didn't keep repeating the show's title over and over.

As far as the episode itself, I had a fool's hope a few episode ago that this series would end without someone's hopes and dreams getting crushed into oblivion, but that's definitely not a possibility anymore.

GREAT direction and animation as always.

Man, that was so unbearable to watch. Rikuo and Shinako are so goddamn awkward and slow.
My girl Haru deserves better.

Also, if they are gonna be changing songs frequently, they might as well put an opening. Sayuri's song didn't even last half a cour.

Ughh I want to say to this show what Rikuo said to Shinako "You're taking it slow so I'm going to leave." A one arm hug, both liquored up on New Years and a one arm hug I understand why college Rikuo liked Shianko but I have no idea what he sees in her now, and really don't see the appeal of Haru either, her weirdness was interesting at first but what else is there? The only thing for Rikuo to like is that she likes him. He's moving on with his life, graduated college, trying to build a career, what is she doing? If she wasn't chasing him what would she even be doing with her free time? We and him know zip about her, other than she has a job as a waitress, oh gee where else can you find a waitress to date There's no way they can do anything where I don't end up regret watching this. At least the ED looked nice.

That's actually something I find interesting about the show at least in how it's been presented. All of the characters really are stuck on "yesterday" and their relationships are an extension of that. In many ways you absolutely can say that none of the relationships do have any future because of it. It's all more about the idea of being in love or being in love with some connection to your past rather than truly being in love with the person who's actually in front of you now.

That's also why I still find Haru very appealing. She's from outside of that loop and I keep hoping that she recognizes how unhealthy the whole thing is and does break free of it. She's less the quirky manic pixie dream girl she first appeared as and is more of a real character. Unless there's some big reveal that she does have some connection to Rikuo's past... which would be a major disappointment.

I'm enjoying it now because it's sort of naturally settled in as almost an anti-love story instead of your typical romantic will they won't they scenario.

What do you mean? Haru is the girl version of Rikuo, she fell in love with him years ago and is still hung up on him, just like he is with Shinako. Haru ending up with Rikuo would be no different than Rikuo ending up with Shinako.

Do you really think so, for me Haru is the antithesis of Rikuo.

She's forthright and honest, bold and assertive, steadfast and committed.

My biggest issue with Haru is not her, it's the author's treatment of her character, I get the feeling this is the author giving Rikuo's pathetic progress some justification by pitching Haru with all these open positive aspects, and having her fail anyway.
