Do you really think so, for me Haru is the antithesis of Rikuo.

She's forthright and honest, bold and assertive, steadfast and committed.

My biggest issue with Haru is not her, it's the author's treatment of her character, I get the feeling this is the author giving Rikuo's pathetic progress some justification by pitching Haru with all these open positive aspects, and having her fail anyway.

As far as being hung up on a crush. It's interesting how Haru and Rikuo show the two approaches to your crush, one passive, one aggressive and both still failing. That's why young brother character is kind of redundant, he is Shinako's Haru (aggressive) except they share a past together. All the characters are just slight variations on each other.
All the unliked characters are who they want their crush to be but aren't, Shinako wants Rikuo to be like the aggressive younger brother and Rikuo wants Shinako to be aggressive like Haru, they all have what they want just in the wrong person, that's the dilemma get what you want from the person you're not interested in or stick with your crush even though they'll never be what you want.
Although now that I put it that way I guess Rikuo and Shinako are co-MC's each with an aggressive younger person crushing on them they aren't interested in romantically, and their mutual passivity is keeping them from getting together even though they both like each other and both know they like each other.

So are the younger characters there to teach the MC's to be more like them or are they real romantic possibilities?

I prefer assertive to aggressive but I get what you mean.

Which ever way you cut it I don't like how Haru is being treated and I really can't work up any sympathy for Shinako,

Episode 11

Now that Shinako is putting her pursuit of romance in the slow lane, Haru now has her chance to win Rikuo over, especially since Rikuo and Shinako aren't expected to see each other much once school resumes. Of course, Shinako is still going after Rikuo, but just when things were going well, Rou catches those two getting a bit too close to each other. That ending there, things could get ugly seeing that Rou is none too pleased about what has developed.

So with that, there's one more episode left in the TV broadcast, and Crunchyroll should be coming out sometime this week letting us know when the last six episodes are coming out.

From ep 10.
Rikuo has some DVDs. DVD released on 1996. So this must be 1997, 2003, 2008 or 2014.
Manga starts on year 1997.

I think the show should change the name to "100 reasons to hate Shinako"

Honestly, Haru is the only character I like.

Shinako think been mourning for to long, forgotten how long, for that guy whom I think was just a friend and not someone close and yet in her mind she was close to him. So in a way she is used to not being close to anyone else.

Staple ear guy, he seems obsessed over Shinako that I just think she wants him be more independent but yet he maybe feels if he does he won’t be as close to her.

Rikuo honestly needs to move on from Shinako no matter what his friends and co workers think or say. Unsure they even know her well enough when they are maybe blind by shipping goggles.

Also think this is when I once had respect for Rikuo and Shinako is gone when after Haru saw them and left they acted like was no big deal and he never dealt with it. And that decision he made might’ve made her quit her job and leave.

Sorry for long rant. This really something I want to say so might’ve missed few things.

Damn, so many people deserving of a good punch this time around. As if it wasn't already clear by this point, Haru deserves so much better than being tied up with this lot. And somehow Shinako and Rou made themselves both even less likable than they already were. Phew. Run Haru, run!

After seeing how hurt Haku was by finding out about Shinako and Rikou's development, I was hoping that Shinako wouldn't make the same mistake with Rou. And of course, after waiting for the perfect moment (which may or may never come), Rou finds out in the same way... Both Haku and Rou would've been hurt after finding out, but the way they found out maximized the hurt. Almost everyone sucks at this.

I feel like this is devolving into a bog-standard romantic drama replete with easily-resolved (if not easily gotten-over) misunderstandings, etc.

Then again, maybe it's a good thing that I still have no idea how this is going to turn out, even 11 episodes in? That by itself would separate it from 99% of romantic dramas out there.

Don't know why Haru or Rou ever thought they stood a chance, they only have themselves to blame for their own hurt feelings. Rikuo and Shinako never expressed any romantic interest in either of them and made it clear they liked each other, it's not their fault everyone mistook their incredible awkwardness as an opening. Get over them, you're young move on and let these two have the most awkward sex ever in 3-5 years.

The first half of this show was pretty enjoyable, but now it's gotten Domestic Girlfriend levels of insufferable.
I didn't sign up for show about a couple in their late twenties that can't even kiss after 3 months together.

Personally I'm enjoying a lot of the drama and the sort of bigger picture stuff but I do agree that the show has veered away from what made it particularly special in the first place. It was always a romance show but it had the interesting focus on growing up and making your own choices in life. Having characters that were largely realistic young adults who didn't really have everything figured out and all that. Now it really does feel like a fairly typical romance drama in many ways even if I still feel it's largely interesting and worth watching in that regard. It's doing what it does well but it's hard to really say it's anything special any more.
