I don't really mind having the browser window visible, though it looks good without it.
But when the video becomes improportionate.. it makes viewing awkward than having the browser window visible?

I signed up only a couple weeks ago, and have seen the changes made to the aspect ratios. Yes I would prefer the old ratio you get after clicking the 'Larger' button (1.85:1, 2.39:1?), but understand that most viewers prefer the current full screen size due to smaller screens etc.

In any case thanks for the excellent site, the effort really shows through

shinji man sorry to tell you this, now that the old way is back it's no good, the sides of the eps that should be in wide screen are now pushed in there for still makeing the wide screen ratio out of order.

oops just realised that sounds like the old way is still no good, it is good but no reason to use it while the side of wide screen eps are been pushed in. whats pushing them in i have no idea.

I finally tried out the new full screen feature.

Apparently, 16:9 aspect ratio videos ARE a little distorted, but I don't know if it's because my Laptop's aspect ratio is 4:3. Besides that, it's a rather minimal discomfort when watching. Problems with the subtitles are usually video specific, since some subtitles can be rather small... In the case of the video I watched (Higurashi no naku koro ni), the aspect ratio was distorted slightly, and the words were huge, and tall...

Perhaps adjusting widescreen to fit 4:3 aspect ratios by including "black boxes" would be good, and vertical black boxes for 4:3 aspect ratios to fit wide screen computer screens. I don't know if this is possible, but that would be best to avoid problems in the aspect ratios.

For Mac users: Since most of the mouses (for the computer) don't have right click, you have to use the control button on the keyboard

In my opinion, I think that it's better watch videos in Large mode rather than Fullscreen mode.

Re: the aspect ratio thing

this is what i've done (I use a widescreen iMac):
System Preferences >> Displays >> 1024 x 768 (stretched)
its still not perfect, but its definitely better...
the video image/frame now takes up the whole screen in full-screen mode, and the
aspect ratio stretching isn't as bad...

thanks shinji for a great site!!

oh, just in case I wasn't clear, I'm talking about those videos that look vertically stretched and/or have those black bars to the side of the image, when they should normally be widescreen.
basically you might be able to switch your monitor from 4:3 ratio to 16:9. It's not a complete fix, and different videos might behave differently, but personnaly i've found this to be an improvement...

oh again... I just noticed doing this took my desktop picture away when I set my display back to its normal setting... a mild annoyance...

If other mac users never new that, then they have no right to own a Mac in the first place...

Anyway, I experimented a little and I found out that 16:9 aspect ratio videos are altered to fit a 4:3 aspect ratio by including vertical bars. I think there should be a way to allow 16:9 videos to be uploaded while retaining their original aspect ratio, but conforming to 4:3 monitors by including horizontal black bars when viewed in full screen mode. I don't know if this is possible, but it would be much better than simply limiting all the videos to a forced 4:3 aspect ratio.

I really like the full screen mode as it is right now, but I hope Shinji can find a way to keep 16:9 ratio for all videos because 4:3 doesn't look as good for people with a 16:9 display. Maybe an option to adjust aspect ratio from the player client would work. ^-^)b
