A newer anime fan here lol! I've only liked anime for about a year and a half , and my first anime was Sword Art Online which is funny because although it got me into anime, I'm pretty much on the "meh" side about it now that I've seen more.

I LOVE Hetalia because it is all of my favorite things put together. Comedy + personified countries + stereotypes for comedy= SOMETHING I ADORE. It is also the only anime where I prefer the dub over the sub.

I also love No.6 (I prefer the manga to this one though), Snow White with the Red Hair (It was beautiful in my opinion), Ouran Highschool Host Club (My first reverse harem anime & the reason I love shoujo anime), and Super Lovers (Guilty pleasure anime >_<).

Legend of the Galactic Heroes (1988)

Nowhere else will you find the perfect amount of exposition, character development, quality subject matter and storytelling, and great world building elements. This anime is something all should strive for.

I honestly can't remember some of the older series well enough to compare them to recent shows, so some of these might be subject to the 'rose-tinted glasses' effect, but I can confidently say that Interviews with Monster Girls (henceforth 'Demi-chan' since I subconsciously refer to it by that name) is up there with the best. Winter '17 was when I really started getting back into the anime scene, and Demi-chan spoke to me on a level that nothing else can really compare to. When you relate to an anime that hard, it's hard not to fall in love with it. Frankly, this one show was what I looked forward to most at the end of each week.

As for others, I think I have to bring up My Hero Academia as, while I don't want to list too many 'mainstream' series, HeroAca just does all the shounen tropes so well that it's hard to ignore. I'd also throw in Shakugan no Shana and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya as they got me into anime in the first place and I'm sentimental like that. Also Psycho Pass, Darker than Black and Death Note (OK, so much for 'not listing many mainstream shows'...) would have to make the cut; I just love me a good psychological show.

I regularly get hate for this because apparently it's overate but I'll be damned you'll never stop me from loving Cowboy Bebop. Like, It’s mainly about a no-good bunch of bounty hunters that you can’t help but love. The show has a near-flawless combination of stylish directing, compelling characters, unique settings, a nice mix of offbeat humor and drama, and whole lot of the coolest music around. Back that up with great voice casting and writing, incredible visuals, and some of the best animation sequences every produced, and you’ve got something truly memorable.

You get hate for loving Bebop? Seriously? I didn't think that was possible. I have so many good memories with my closest friends watching that show. It's the kind that can bring otaku and casuals together for good times. It was one of the first anime I saw that had good story telling, style and very little filler. Let me emphasize that last part, VERY LITTLE FILLER.

My personal favorite is The Garden of Sinners (Kara no Kyoukai). I was over the moon when I saw Crunchy got a hold of it because getting a hold of a physical copy is extremely expensive. It's a supernatural mystery horror action thriller. Beautiful animation, amazing musical score and it can be intensely thought provoking.

Code Geass: The perfect anti-hero story, following a strategic master, but who also makes mistakes and isn't perfect like Light is for the first 36/37 eps of DN... Great portrayal of emotion, storytelling, and all around a great watch that I can keep going back to.

Re:Zero: Absolutely love the characterization, personalities, everything about the characters in this one, and the torment displayed on the main character takes its toll and feels genuine. So much attention to detail of things from the novel as well, (though a few things changed here and there.)

Classroom of the elite: I thought this one was fantastic, entertaining to watch and I can't wait for a second season.

Steins;Gate: True to the visual novel (though taking out the chuunibyou inner monologue which makes you question some of his decisions,), the descent to madness is real and everything about this anime was executed grandly for a visual novel adaption of the true ending route.

What would be the best anime if it ever got ported successfully and true to the VNs: muv-luv main series trilogy... I guess the only thing stopping them is that to truly get the full experience it'd be a 200-300 episode~ epic, lol.

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood The STORY, the development of the characters through out the anime. The beautiful art, the action, the drama, everything about Brotherhood is perfect. Also the only anime I could watch dubbed.
