I am a vegetarian by religion.

Do you think that vegetarianism can help save the Earth?
The world is losing its' forests (especially the Amazon) due to many reasons, but the biggest contributer is no doubt Cattle Ranching.
So many acres of the forests cleared just because people want to eat the animals. Furthermore, these animals are being mistreated at so many places of the world!

Look at this:

Animals being crammed into 1 small cage. And they have no food/water on their way to the slaughterhouses..
This is just one of the methods animals bred for food are mistreated. Others include killing them cruelly like slamming the heads of runts onto the floor before slowly torturing them to death.

That is besides the point at the moment.

Did you know that the amount of land used for Cattle Ranching is 5 times the amount of land we use for farming?
Did you also know that meat production is more energy intensive than crop production?

This means that if all this meat producing is stopped, more of the world can be saved, and we can plant more corps to feed all the hungry people in the world!

Yes, I do agree that many companies can lose their money as a result of stopping meat production, but if many people and the Earth can be saved, would you do it?

You may not agree with me on this, which is why I opened this forum for a discussion.
And so,back to the question: Do you think that vegetarianism can help save the Earth?

Please post your sincere replies. I'm open for debates. Thanks for your time (:

I agreed with you shizukakimura , That why I keep on saying that mother nature is going to get piss if ppl keep eating and killing animals.
Seeing those chicken remember very sad thing happen to me....
I was in 10 grade in 2007 or 6 in April ( I don't know the day was it ) I was Animal sci it about famer animal ...cow , chicken , pig , ect ( And I thought the class is about all kind of animal ), My teacher Mr. Waller and the kids was killing chicken...And I try to stop them for killing chicken , but it end up I ran to the bath room and try to kill my self....because no will not list to me.
It really hurt to remember that day.....Plus when I got home on that day, my favoirte tree that is dead is be cut down... told mom not to let the guys cut it down , but she does't care for my feeling to animal and trees/palnts. So its was very bad day for me since I lost both thing I love Chicken and Tree.

ohh.. poor tsuki.. i had a tree too i always hug and climb it.. so far they cut part of it down.. and boys at our school was bashing a pretty flower arch that only grows once every 3 seasons..

I feel ashamed of myself.. but if i eat corn i feel very sick.. same goes wth mini bananas..

but i do love potatoes! does that count?

lol man i feel sorry for chickens.. i owned 4 big ducks in the philippines and you know what? once i came back here in australia, mum called her fam in the philippines (next to our house) and guess what? they were "allowed" to kill 2 ducks of mine! i mean, just because they like to poop everywhere dosen't mean you have to freakin kill it!

it sucks

and i like blackle! and i was thinking..

why can't we make it like a "blackle" theme? i mean, white.. So light wasting.. can specific colours save light too?

hmm...well as for now i'm trying to become vegetarian myself...well its because one of our teachers from my school said that once you eat the meat of animals YOUR MAKING YOUR STOMACH A GRAVEYARDand that's kind'o creepy... but that's not the real reason for me trying to become a vegetarian its because one of my classmate reported about PETA and i like the fact that this organization give credit to these animals and pursue to protect them...but i hate that film viewing they showed us...its really gross to see how they kill animals!

well somewhat it can.. if we all turn vegetarian i think.. but its not just that.. that caused the earth in such a state.. theres other things like the amount of electricity we use.. cars (emissions)

n i think we should start acting up.. cuz with this climate change food + water sources are becoming scarce

i mean i do love animals.. ive been eating less meat..but im just one person~

that's why you cannot say that you're an environmentalist if you're not a vegetarian... i really hope things change. as of now, i still eat meat. i'm still living with my family and it makes it hard for me to change. i have changed before for 1 month but it didn't push through. maybe when i can be independent then i'll be able to go vegan again...

Well,i am not a vegan, but i do like to eat vegetables.I read an article from a magazine,so i thought i could share it with you guysThe title of this article is HAMBURGER OR EARTH?.A very catchy title, but i don't understand it at the beginning.Once i finished reading it,i get the point. So here it is the article:

It sounds unbelievable that the price of eating one hamburger is 55 square feet of rainforest, which also means the end of half ton of trees, seedlings, seeds, insects, birds, reptiles, mammals, fungi, and microorganisms.

In order to supply the increasing demand for cheap meat products like hamburger, poultry, and cattle industries are causing the clearance of rainforest to plan more grains for animal feeds. In USA,there are plenty of agriculture farm land but 90% are used for animal feeds, which took up 45%of total land area in USA.85% of top soil lost is a direct result of animal farming. Moreover,USA is now importing soya beans and others grain from developing countries like Brazil to satisfy its ever growing [red]MEAT APPETITE.
Today,70% of former Amazon rainforest is used for pastureland, and feed crops cover much of the ramainder.

Once the rainforest is cleared, the lost of top soil has resulted in waste land and eventually desertification.27 million acres of land in the Western part of USA are used for animal farming.Out of which,10% has now become desert-like and 70% are now seriously damaged.

Each year, the rainforest that we lost globally is bigger than the size of Denmark. It took thousand of years for a rainforest grow,BUT ONLY 10 MINUTES TO CLEAR!Many forest are cleared to cater for rapidly growing animal farming and [red]FAST FOOD INDUSTRY resulting in critical reduction in rainfall in Africa.

Each tree releases 40 gallons of water to the atmosphere and the oxygen released is sufficient for over 200 people.

I hope the article is not too long or too boring for you all.Just have a look and you guys can understand more.I stopped eating hamburger after i read this article, and starting to restrict myself from eating too many meats. It is hard to for me to totally stop comsuming meat, because i love seafood.(i am a SUSHI LOVER!),so the best i can do is to reduce the meat intake.

P.S:A SMALL effort can make a BIG difference!

i love animals, and i want to help to stop animal abuse in anyway i can. To me animals are just like people. And they are. I mean i doubt anyone would like to be crammed into a cage and then slaughtered. They have feeling too. People may disagree with me, i don't care. If i see them hurting an animal though, i will care. I will stop them in anyway i can. Animals are like my best friend and i am not going to let a munch of crazy abusive people hurt them.
