The representative of season albums SMTOWN is releasing a new Winter album called ‘07 WINTER SMTOWN’

Many SM Entertainment artists such as Kangta, BoA, DBSK, CSJH the Grace, Super Junior, SNSD, Jang Ri In participated in the album and showed various colors. It will include songs written by BoA 'Dec. 27th' and 'EverGreen' which is written by Choikang Changmin and composed by Micky Yoochun.

The title song 'One Love' has the meaning that neglected children in this world needs 'love' and with the abundant chorus of the SM artists it gives a impressive pop ballad song. This song was used as the theme song for Korea's Children Foundation. 5% of the profits from this album will be given to Korea's Children Foundation.

Besides this 'Winter Wonderland' with Kangta, Super Junior's exciting dance song 'First Snow is Coming', a total of 12 songs will be included in the 07 WINTER SMTOWN album. This album will be released on December 7th.

BoA’s Agency to Branch Out Into Stage Musicals

Pop stars BoA, Kang Ta, The Grace and TVXQ
are to make the leap to stage musicals, which are enjoying a wave of popularity in Korea. SM Entertainment, the stars’ agency, said Wednesday it will start producing stage musicals next year. Other pop singers like Ok Ju-hyeon, Bada, Hey, Kim Tae-woo and Andy have already appeared in stage musicals to great success.
The Broadway musical “Xanadu” is highly likely to be the first show presented by SM Entertainment. Although the company did not officially confirm this, it apparently struck a license deal and is now seeking to rent a mid-sized theater with 600 to 800 seats, having already enquired at such venues as the M theater in the Sejong Center for Performing Arts or the Towol theater at the Seoul Arts Center. Yoo Hee-seong, the executive director of Seoul Metropolitan Musical Theater, said, “SM Entertainment’s musical division leader asked me whether it would be possible for SM Entertainment to rent the M theater in 2008 to present ‘Xanadu.’ I said the major theaters are booked, so it may be possible in 2009.”

“Xanadu” is an affectionate send-up of the 80s movie flop starring Olivia Newton-John. It is attractive to SM Entertainment as the company’s first musical show since it is a light comedy based around some catchy pop songs.

The company has been looking for ways to diversify since the music market shrank to a quarter of the size of its heyday. The entertainment giant has already purchased four small theaters including Teenteen Hall in Daehagno. It has an agent on Broadway and says it is pursuing license deals for several popular musicals. SM Entertainment director Lee Soo-man has already mentioned the possibility of branching out into musical production, especially to showcase BoA, several times.

The reaction of industry insiders was mixed. Kim Byeong-seok, the head of the performance department at CJ Entertainment, said, “SM Entertainment’s advance into the musical industry will play a positive role in boosting the size of the total market.” But he warned success of a musical depends on the quality of the show rather than the popularity of a star or a composer. “SM Entertainment needs to be careful to bear that in mind.”

20 million won for a date with wondergirls!!

Yes, that’s right. A single dinner date with all five youngins from the JYP produced Wondergirls will set you back 20 million won (approx. 20 thousand USD).

And who would want to purchase an auctioned dinner date with the girls? Well, most likely 5 ajashis. The auction went to the highest 5 bidders. (Don’t you love the Korean media because they tell you the identity?) The highest bid was 5.5 million won (i.d. is nunggali. Just in case you want to call him up and ask him how old he is). Other winning bidders were Kimiou1004 (an ajashi angel with 4 million won ), soultran (3.52 million won), jauwa79 (3.5 million won- most likely born in 1979) and jacob1945 (3.5 million won- obviously born in 1945).

Of course, the money will be going to a good cause but what an excellent excuse for the old dirty ajashis to go out with young and innocent (?) school girls.

The 5-on-5 date with the high schoolers on happen on December 9th, 2007.

JYP Entertainment vs. YG Entertainment

JYP Entertainment and YG Entertainment's CEO's have always been one of the greatest rivals in the K-Pop industry, from their early years when they were musicians/performers and now as 'super producers'. Park Jin Young of JYP Entertainment and Yang Hyun Suk of YG Entertainment's rivalry started back in the 1990's when Yang Hyun Suk was in the infamous group 'Seo Taiji & Boys' and Park Jin Young was a solo male performer.

Both musicians were big players in the 90's, however they both decided to retire and pursue a career in producing. Park Jin Young first gained recognition as a producer after his creation of a very popular boy band named 'G.O.D'.

In 2003, Park Jin Young introduced a new solo artist known as Rain or Bi, while Yang Hyun Suk created Se7en. They both battled vigorously to top the charts and out-do one another, Rain however prevailed by entering the acting scene and became an instant hit after his performance with Song Hae Gyo in 'Full House'. Se7en stayed true to his music roots while Rain continued to pursue an acting career, Se7en felt he could beat Rain by being strictly a musician, this however failed and Se7en had eventually given in by also pursuing a career in acting. Se7en gained a large amount of popularity, however he never achieved the international star status that Rain has been able to obtain. The end result of this battle put Park Jin Young in front of Yang Hyun Suk.

In 2007, the rivalry continued with both producers still locked in a heated battle, YG Entertainment created a boy band known as 'Big Bang', while JYP Entertainment produced a girl group known as 'Wonder Girls'. Big Bang was topping with charts with their hit single "Lie", only to be de-throned by the Wonder Girls hit song "Tell Me." Even more, the Wonder Girls have now been de-throned by Big Bangs' new song "Last Farewell."

The K-Pop industry this year really felt the heat between these two giants. 2008 looks to be a very promising and exciting year for K-Pop - who's side are you on?

Rain wins CineAsia Awards for Star of the Year

Despite a rough 2007, the year ends on a relatively happy note for newly shaggy haired Rain (Bi or Jung Ji-hoon). Our favorite ESL student and K-pop king received the Asian Male Star of the Year award at the CineAsia Film Festival in Macau on December 06th, 2007.

We look forward to seeing him in the Wachowski directed movie, Speed Racer next May. Let’s hope that the ESL studies have paid off.

BoA's dream, Studying abroad and debuting in America
BoA to take time off and pursue studies in America

In a recent interview with the Japanese press, she made confessions that no fan of hers or the press expected to hear: that she "no longer" enjoys working, and that she plans to take a break from her usual routine and pursue her study in America.

She told interviewers that she was feeling "exhausted", which is hardly surprising, considering her incredibly busy schedules in the past seven years, going back and forth between Korea and Japan. However, her emotional problem apparently goes far deeper than that; she confessed that she felt as if "her identity as a human has been lost".

BoA said this is not a recent development. She felt that she had "lost direction" of her life ever since releasing Best of Soul, her best-of compilation that has sold more than a million copies in Japan. Since then she never really had time to reflect on her life and her goals.

Her plan to overcome this slump is to realize her teenage dream, which is to go to a university in America and pursue the studies that she has always wanted to do. She said that she was "certain" that in four years' time she'd be attending a university in the U.S., improving her English and dance skills.

We wish the best for BoA and whatever lies ahead in her career.

BoA's dream-- Studying abroad and debuting in America

"I do not feel as happy doing what I am doing now. To put it more exaggeratedly, I think I might have lost myself, my sense of belonging, in the midst of working."

These words let slipped by BoA, who has been active as a front runner in the entertainment scene, were both shocking and surprising to the people around her. Debuting in 2001 when she was only merely 14 years old, she was still a young girl who held a childish and innocenet look to her. Yet in the years to come, she has successfully released hits like 'Listen to my heart', 'Valenti' and her albums have all managed to break the million sales mark. She has been in the entertainment showbiz for 7 years, and is now 21 years of age. Now, what prompted BoA who has transformed from a young teenager to a mature lady, to say those words?

"It was probably after the release of my compilation album (Best Of Soul), that I began to lose my aim in life. I guess in a way, it was having to work constantly with no breather in between each moment, that made me feel that way. From time to time, I will think back and reflect, whether I am being too contented with what I have now. Honestly, I always wonder what will happen to me if I were to give up singing one day, but because singing has been my life, the thought of it is enough to just jolt me back to my senses that I need to go on with singing. But I guess it is the fact that I hadn't have a break for so long that it is making me burnt out."

As BoA told us these, she secretly threw a glance to her colleagues(manager etc) at the side and gave them a small but bitter smile. Indeed, throughout these 7 years, she has been shuffling back and forth between Japan and Korea without rest in her schedules and has used up 4 passports in the midst of her travelling. Perhaps it's because she is so busy, that she cannot seem to find the motivation to drive her anymore. However, BoA has not lost her dreams all these while. It's a dream made she was 15 years old --That she wants go abroad to America to study 10 years later, when she is 25 years old.

"There's still 4 more years to when I am 25 years old. Maybe I will really go abroad to study then. I want to study English and also take up ballet, these are what I feel are important and essential to me. Besides, I can still do recordings even when I am studying."

Being an avid and inquisitive learner, BoA has mentioned during her teens years, that she would want to study Economics.

"Ah yes. But come to think of it, I would have been able to put in more time and effort then to study as compared to now."

It's not too late for BoA to study now though.

BoA's ability to express her views and understanding in what she does can be seen in her upcoming single 'Lose Your Mind', which is to be released in December. This is the first time she is collaborating with a rock band member, Doping Panda's Yukata Furukawa and the rock style coupled with BoA's amazing dancing skills just adds more passion to the song itself.

When will we see Shinhwa as one again?

Korea’s hottest boyband Shinhwa is back as one again, but you better enjoy it while it lasts because it won’t comeback for another three to four years. Eric and Dongwan have to enlist in the army next year and the rest will join soon, which means that although we’ll see them through their solo activities, it’s going to be a long wait until we see all six at the same time.

“2007 JAPAN SHINHWA FOREVER” concert was a huge success, attracting 8,000 fans at Osaka and over 26,000 fans at Saitama. Shinhwa will hold another concert in Shanghai, China this weekend for their Chinese fans, but they are making Koreans fans wait until March of next year.

Shinhwa also plans to release a full album next year, to celebrate their 10th year anniversary.

Enjoy more pictures and vote for your favorite Shinhwa member after the jump.

Choi Kang ChangMin makes us proud!

POPSEOUL: While many “socially conscious” celebrities are stepping in to clean up the East Sea oil spillage aka take advantage of the media photo opportunities, DBSK’s Choi Kang Chang Min’s recent stint at the oil spillage site was done in secret. Neither the media, nor SM Entertainment were aware of Choi Kang Chang Min’s covert operation until it was revealed by omniscient Cassiopeias.

Glad to know that at least one prettied face celebrity’s intensions are in the right place, unlike other celebrities like Lee Hyori who televises trips to Africa.

Choi Kang Chang Min plans to return to DBSK’s promotional activities in Japan after visiting family in Korea.

Rain maybe the singing for 2008 Olympic

Rain has been asked by the Beijing Olympic Committee to sing the theme song for the 2008 Olympics and many are wondering if the dancing machine will agree since all discussions has been kept under wraps.

Rain will probably sing for the Beijing Olympics in Chinese because he endorses anything that pays, even if he has to get up close and personal with the businessmen involved.

Big Bang’s shaky Japan adventure

Big Bang released their first Japanese mini album titled “For the World” on Friday, despite the heated controversy around their latest single “Fool.” According to Korean Netizen Investigators, Big
Bang’s “Fool” was a direct rip off from Japanese band Daishi Dance’s “Piano” but master YG doesn’t care because they are not “real” music critics.

And master YG doesn’t seem to care that much about the Japanese teens either. Big Bang’s first Japanese mini album was recorded entirely in English, not Japanese. But he did change names of three members to make it easier to pronounce. In Japan Taeyang will be SOL, Dae Sung, D-Lite and Seung Ri, VI (VICTORY). G-Dragon and Top will maintain their generic stage names.

Master YG’s strategy for Big Bang is an improvement from Se7en’s still pending US debut where all he did was brag about the producers he met, but Big Bang’s entry into Japan doesn’t sound too promising either, especially because the BB boys frequent the hospital and plagiarize without shame. Anyhow, good luck in Japan boys!

Super Junior Asia Tour - Super Show

Super Junior is having their First Asia Tour this year (2008), and its called Super Show.

Its been officially announced in Soompi's Super Junior thread and PopSeoul.

There will be NINE cities they're going to. Or so they announced LOL. But they said there'll be ten concerts. So maybe they'll have two in Seoul, I don't know..

They're planning to stop by Beijing, Shanghai, Bangkok, Taipei and KUALA LUMPUR!! (Not sure with Singapore yet, they are not included >_<)

The tour will begin in Seoul on February 23rd!!!

---They say Kuala Lumpur is the last stop, just like TVXQ's concert, LOL---

Wonder if they're going to have any guest stars? Highly doubt it since Super Junior doesn't have any collabs with other SM artists (and I surely don't think they can get TVXQ for Show Me Your Love or BoA LOL)

GASP. Maybe Henry!!

'My sassy girl' remade in Japan with Kusanagi Tsuyoshi as the leading character (2007/12/14)

My Sassy Girl - Korean version

Cha Tae-hyeon and Jeon Ji-hyeon's 'My Sassy Girl' (2001) is remade in Japan. Japan's popular idol group, SMAP's member Kusanagi Tsuyoshi takes Cha Tae-hyeon's role while Tanaka Rena takes Jeon Ji-hyeon's part. The remake of 'My Sassy Girl' will be on air next April on TBS.

Kusanagi Tsuyoshi

The Nikan Sport Newspaper reported that the shooting have already started at the beginning of December and Kusanagi Tsuyoshi is very motivated as this is his chance to gain popularity over Korean fans.

According to the Sankaitz Sport Newspaper, the love story, characterisation and the context of the two main characters will remain the same as the original. However, unlike the movie, where the characters were university students, in the drama, Kusanagi Tsuyoshi acts as Marine Biology professor and Tanaka Rena acts as student novelist.

Ever since 'My Sassy Girl' was released in Japan, various Japanese TV broadcasting stations proposed remake of the film into a drama but all faced various difficulties in making final agreement. However, last spring, TBS made the reproposal with Kusanagi Tsuyoshi as the main cast and finally success in signing the contract. According to the Sankaitz Sport Newspaper, 'My Sassy Girl's producer showed high expectation toward the drama, saying the lowest viewing rate will be at least 20%.

Other casts include Matsushita Nao and Tanihara Akira Tatsku and the script was written by Sakamoto Yuji, who wrote drama "Tokyo Love story".

By Cathy Rose A. Garcia
Staff Reporter

Park Joon-hyung, a former member of boy band g.o.d., will appear in the up-coming Hollywood film adaptation of the successful Japanese manga "Dragon Ball Z".

The 38-year-old Park, who is known as Joon Park and grew up in California, was cast in the role of Yamcha, a Z fighter.

"Dragon Ball Z", created by Akira Toriyama, is one of the most popular Japanese manga of all-time, and was turned into a worldwide hit animated series. The film version will be directed by James Wong and produced by Chinese filmmaker Stephen Chow, who is known for hit films "Kung Fu Hustle" and "Shaolin Soccer". It is scheduled for release Aug. 15, 2008.

The cast for "Dragon Ball Z" includes Justin Chatwin as the hero Goku and James Marsters as the villain. Other actors include Jamie Chung, Emily Rossum and Eriko Tamura.

Park is best known as the rapper for g.o.d., but he has recently moved back to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career.

Next year, there are several Korean stars appearing in Hollywood films. Jang Dong-kun (also known as Jang Dong-gun) is currently filming "Laundry Warrior" opposite Kate Bosworth. Jeon Ji-hyeon (also known as Gianna Jun) has finished shooting the film "Blood: The Last Vampire", which will be released next year. Song Hye-kyo will also appear in an independent film "Fetish".

Korea only opened its door to Japanese movies and drama on Jan. 2004, and ever since, the number of Japanese films shown in Korea has been on a steady increase. This year there were a total of 81 so far, compared with 29 in 2004, 34 in 2005, and 51 in 2006.

Big name Japanese stars such as Takuya Kimura (my fav), Jo Odagiri, the star of the popular J-film "Mezon Do Himiko", and Satoshi Tsumabuki (my fav too) from "Josee, The Tiger and the Fish" have all visited Korea to promote their new films. "It used to be rare for Japanese stars to visit Korea, but now they see Korea as a lucrative market", said an insider with a company that distributes Japanese films here.

Sustainability is one thing that sets the Japanese Wave apart from the Korean Wave, which effectively lasted only for two years from 2004 to 2006. And while the Korean Wave managed to produce only a handful of big stars -- headed by Bae Yong-joon and Choi Ji-woo -- Japan continuously delivers fresh stars to be adored. Starting with Takuya Kimura, whose popularity just keeps growing, actors like Jo Odagiri, Tsuyoshi Kusanagi, and Satoshi Tsumabuki all succeeded in capturing the hearts of Korean fans. Female stars are no exception with actresses like Juri Ueno, Erika Sawajiri, Yuu Aoi and Aoi Miyazaki garnering more popularity in Korea as the year goes by. And while Korean actors appear in only one to two movies a year, Japanese actors frequently shoot several.

Jang Nara to Sing Chinese Olympic Duet (2008/01/24)

Singer Jang Nara will sing a duet dedicated to this year's Beijing Olympics entitled 'Our Dream' with famous Chinese opera singer Liao Changyong.

Jang's management agency said, "The Chinese singer had earlier expressed his intent to one day sing with Jang, and the occasion came as Korean and Chinese artists alike hope for a successful Olympics".

Jang will record the song in Beijing Thursday and also shoot its music video.

Liao Changyong has previously sung with soprano Jo Sumi.
