I think the definition of love differs in each individual. Their perception of love is based on his/her own experience.

love can either be your best experience or your worst nightmare....
depends on h0w you understand it...

Y'know that feeling you get when you win something you did not expect?
that feeling of "wow i did not see this coming" feel?
then you hold that prize like it was some gift from God even if it is insignificant to others?

That is Love.

you can also replicate that feeling with a tequila/scotch/rum/vodka combination.
one shot of that is a sure way path to hammersvill.

Bah. Dude didn't even remember my name, my birthday, or notice if I was there or not unless it inconvenienced him. Hell, he just stayed in that room smoking pot all day. Only tried to reach out to me once, briefly, when he was trying to get me to stay with him during the divorce rather than my mother so he wouldn't have to pay child support.

Whatever "love" is, being family clearly doesn't make it a given.

Love really is troublesome and complicate , have love you also have other feeling like :
Jealous , desperate , hurt , pain , sad ..., and I didn't want it .

When love beckons to you, follow him,
Though his ways are hard and steep.
And when his wings enfold you yield yo him,
Though the sword hidden among his pinions
may wound you.
And when he speaks believe in him,
Though his voice may shatter your dreams as
the north wind lays waste the garden.
For even though love crowns you so shall he crucify you.
Even as he is for your growth so he is for your pruning.
Even as he ascends to your height and caresses your tenderest branches that quiver in the sun,
So shall he descend to your roots and shake them in their clinging to the earth.
Like sheaves of corn he gathers you unto himself.
He threshes you to make you naked.
He sifts you to free you from your husks.
He grinds you to whiteness.
he kneads you until you are pliant;
And then he assigns you to his sacred fire, that
you may become sacred bread for God's sacred feast.

All these things shall love do unto you that you
may know the secrets of your heart, and in that
knowledge become a fragment of Life's heart.

But if in your fear you would seek only love's
peace and love's pleasure,
then it is beter for you that you cover your
nakedness and pass out of love's threshing-floor,
Into the seasonless world where you shall laugh,
but not all your laughter, and weep, but not all your tears.

Love gives naught but itself and takes naught but from itself.
Love possesses not nor would it be possesses;
For love is sufficient unto love.

Love has no other desire but to fulfil itself.
But if you love and must needs have desires let these be your desires:
To melt and be like a running brook that sings
its melody in the night.
To know the pain of too much tenderness.
To be wounded by your own understanding of love;
And to bleed willingly and joyfully.
To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving;
To rest at the noon hour and meditate in love's ecstasy;
To return Home at eventide with gratitude;
And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heart
and song of praise upon your lips.

My parents scold me because they say this is for my good and
because they love me so much. If that's it, then please,
love me less.

You are always told that it's natural for parents to love their children but that's just not true.

Just a few centuries ago killing children as for birthregulation was quite common all around the world and mostly performed by women. Burying unwanted children while they were still alive was as common as an abortion today. Killing them as long as they are not recognisable as humans is just a modern way to make it easier for women.
