Eriko instructs detectives to follow the car that is carrying Nodate and Commissioner Oyama, and then she goes in pursuit of the car together with Mami, Yamamoto and Hanagata too.

At that moment, Tanba reports the abduction of Commissioner Oyama and Nodate to the top brass of the metropolitan police. The mastermind of the kidnapping is a member of Black Moon, the anti-goverment organisation.

Meanwhile, Katagiri returns to the Special Crimes Unit and tells Eriko that Onoda had been stabbed by someone and is unconscious. An attempt had been made on Onoda’s life because he had obtained proof of corruption at the Metropolitan Police Department. Mami, Katagiri, Yamamura, Hanagata and Iwai cannot hide their bewilderment at Nodate’s presumed involvement in corruption and Black Moon.

In the midst of this, Eriko discloses to her team members that she has decided to gain the cooperation of Yada in order to feed information from the command centre to the Special Crimes Unit. Then she tells Yada about Nodate’s involvement in corruption as well as his plan to murder the commissioner to cover this up. He has joined forces with Black Moon because this coincides with their interests. Furthermore, Eriko also reveals a plan to pretend to fall for Nodate’s tactics now and thwart it because if Nodate, who has feigned his own kidnapping, learns that they know about his scheme, he will kill the commissioner and flee with Black Moon.

Before long, the Metropolitan Police Department’s command centre receives a call from Black Moon’s Takakura Ryuhei. He demands the release of three top Black Moon members who are currently serving time in prison in exchange for the release of Commissioner Oyama and Nodate.

At that moment, a bomb is found at an electric power substation in Tokyo where Takakura is thought to have made his call. The bomb disposal squad arrives at the scene but doesn’t know the method for disabling the time bomb because they have not seen something like this up until now. Reiko points out that it is a fuel-air explosive which has never been disarmed in Japan before. Eriko believes Nogaki Taizo, who is serving time now, is the only person able to do so. She bows before Nogaki and asks him to disable the bomb. Persuaded by Eriko, Nogaki teaches her the procedure but lies about the very end. However, Eriko sees through his deceit and successfully disables it.

Then Eriko receives a call from Takakura who instructs her on the location where the exchange will take place when the three top Black Moon members are released. In addition, Takakura nominates Eriko to be the driver.

The next morning, Eriko goes to the prison and meets the three members. She quickly puts them into her car and heads to the location specified by Takakura. Takakura and his men are waiting at a big warehouse. When Eriko lets him see the top Black Moon members, she asks about the motive for his crime. Takakura boasts that it is to vanquish a corrupt Japan. He will be the one to change Japan. In the next instant, as Eriko is about to exchange the top Black Moon members for Commissioner Oyama and Nodate, Takakura shoots the three men and also fires at Nodate as well as the commissioner. Commissioner Oyama is shot in the chest and staggers. Eriko, Mami and Yada rush over to him. Eriko feels the commissioner’s carotid artery and tells Yada that he has died. Hearing this, Yada tells her to pursue Nodate, who has escaped, and leaves.

On the other hand, Takakura and his men try to run away by going out of the warehouse. When they are about to get into the parked car, Takakura sees Ikegami Kengo speeding away on a motorbike. Thinking that the car has been rigged with a bomb, he hastily snatches a patrol car and escapes.

At that moment, Eriko has cornered Nodate and finally confronts him. She aims her gun at him and pulls the trigger. The bullet penetrates his chest and he collapses. “Is Nodate really guilty of corruption and bribery?” Yada asks Eriko, but she finds the situation unbearable and takes her leave. Left all alone, Yada joins his hands in prayer for Nodate. Then he removes a flash memory stick from the inside pocket of his jacket and hides it in Nodate’s pocket.

Eriko appears and demands to know what Yada had put inside the pocket. She questions if it contains the account number of the overseas bank where the illicit money has been pooled. Then Nodate gets up and pulls out the flash memory stick. Mami has also recorded that scene on video camera. Yada stands paralysed with astonishment.

Eriko explains that when she had seen Nodate ride off from the hall where Commissioner Oyama had been abducted, she had realised from the danger signal Nodate had given that there was a case. She had also heard about the bribery and corruption from Katagiri and had discovered listening devices in Nodate’s room as well as the Special Crimes Unit during an investigation. She says with conviction that Yada is the only person who could have planted the devices in those two rooms. Furthermore, Nodate knew the person, who was the mastermind within the police ranks, had links with Black Moon but didn’t have conclusive evidence. However, if Yada was the mastermind, he would probably target the commissioner in order to cover up his misdeeds, so as a precaution, Nodate had reduced the number of police officers arranged by Yada to provide security. Nonetheless, Nodate reveals that he had not anticipated being kidnapped by Takakura. Continuing on, Eriko says she expected Yada to take some sort of action if Nodate died. Because of that, she had shot him and made him pretend to be dead.

Commissioner Oyama comes over with a smile. He had knowingly risked his own life and come to the hall in order to arrest the criminal. Anticipating the murder of the commissioner at the place where the hostages would be exchanged, Nodate had pretended to intercede for his life and told Takakura that he would shoot Commissioner Oyama himself. Nodate decided that he would aim for the commissioner’s chest and placed a metallic business card holder there to stop the bullet.

At that moment, Takakura, who has fled in a patrol car with his men, notices the sound of a timer and stops the car. He finds Yamamura holding a watch when he opens the trunk. In addition, Katagiri and Hanagata, who is dressed as Kengo and riding a motorbike, rush over. The guy that Takakura had seen and thought to be Kengo when he was making his escape, is actually Hanagata. Their aim was to let Takakura see Kengo, think a bomb had been planted in his car and make him steal a police car. Then Takakura is finally arrested.

The next day, Eriko, who has decided to go abroad, receives a call from Hiroshi. He thanks her for proving his brother’s innocence and asks about the length of her stay. Eriko tells him not to wait for her this time and hangs up the phone.

At that moment, the members of the unit are pursuing cases even though they feel lonely with the absence of Eriko. Around the same time, Eriko is alone at the airport and just about to leave Japan …

Eriko and the other detectives from the Special Crimes Unit are suspended and made to assist the Community Safety Division. Katagiri, who is taking part in some campaign together with Hanagata, talks to Suzuki Shinji, a journalist from Tohwa Nippon Shimbun. The journalist asks whether the unit’s suspension is connected to the Metropolitan Police Department’s bribery and corruption problems.

At the same moment, Mami and Yamamura, who are in charge of investigating successive bomb attacks on garbage bins, are told after Reiko has analysed the evidence, that Eriko’s fingerprints are on the watch that had been used as a timer for the explosives. Under Katagiri’s instructions, Yamamura and Iwai investigate while Mami and Hanagata interrogate Eriko.

Meanwhile, Nodate has just finished a meeting on the security measures for an award ceremony that Oyama Genzo, the commissioner of the metropolitan police, will attend. Katagiri comes over and asks Nodate about the corruption problem but he shrugs it off.

At that moment, an explosion occurs in some university lecture theatre, resulting in casualties. Mami reports this to Eriko who is being interrogated. When she also discloses that benzoyl peroxide was an ingredient in the bomb, Eriko’s expression changes. The watch that was used as the timer had actually been a present from Eriko to Hiroshi. However, Eriko reveals that Hiroshi’s younger brother, Kengo, is probably involved in this incident.

Five years ago, Ikegami Kengo was arrested as a suspect in a terrorist bombing that seriously injured the Minister of Justice. The terror group Black Moon, an anti-goverment organisation, was alleged to be behind the attack but Kengo denied it. In fact, Kengo, who had been a postgraduate student majoring in science back then, said he had only lent the benzoyl peroxide at a friend’s request, thinking that hiis friend had meant to use it for an experiment. He also denied any involvement in the terrorist bombing. However, he was unable to prove it and was made to serve a five-year prison term.

Eriko tells Mami that they need to take Kengo into custody and question Hiroshi. She says she will do this herself and stands up.

The next day, Hiroshi arrives for questioning and Eriko broaches the subject of Kengo. Hiroshi discloses that he had been living with Kengo, who had recently been released from prison, but Kengo had disappeared two weeks ago, and the watch which Eriko had given to him had gone missing at the same time. However, Hiroshi looks Eriko straight in the eye and says his brother would never kill a person.

At that moment, people are gathering in the hall where the award ceremony is to be held. With the presence of the police officers providing security, Nodate checks every place as he walks about. He learns that a shutter is jammed and gives instructions to get a contractor to repair it immediately. Before long, Commissioner Oyama arrives at the hall.

At the same moment, Eriko and her team members are studying the successive bomb attacks. Benzoyl peroxide had been used in all the three incidents and amount used was increased each time. Mami notices this and it occurs to her that the three explosions may have been a rehearsal for a different bomb attack. Hanagata researches and learns that Commissioner Oyama had been the person who had been at the helm of the case which destroyed Black Moon five years ago. Furthermore, it is also learnt that the shape, size and even the number of exits at the hall where the ceremony is being held, is the same as the university lecture theatre where the explosion took place. Is Black Moon the culprit and is their objective to seek revenge on Commissioner Oyama? Eriko is convinced that there is a traitor within the police organisation because the criminals know information about the security measures.

Meanwhile, Katagiri is summoned by Onoda regarding the corruption problem. Onoda says Suzuki, the journalist, was his junior in university and he trusts him. He has conducted his own investigation and wishes to tell Katagiri about it, saying that the full details of the problem will be revealed. Onoda arranges to meet Katagiri at a cafe at 2.00 p.m. several days later, but he doesn’t appear even though it is past 3.00 p.m. Suzuki comes in place of him. He says the corruption problem had become an issue in metropolitan police after Oyama became the commissioner. As a result, the unit where illicit funds were pooled was being watched and the corrupt member(s) of the top brass established a new unit to pool other money. He says that the unit is the Special Crimes Unit. The person who had set it up was Nodate …

Eriko calls Nodate and instructs him to take Commissioner Oyama and escape. At that same moment, there is the sound of an explosion and smoke. As pandemonium breaks out in the venue, Nodate guides the commissioner, who had been speaking on stage, to the exit. A man sits calmly in the audience in spite of the circumstance. Eriko learns that Commissioner Oyama is with Nodate and is relieved but when she hears that it was the entrance and corridor of the venue that had been bombed, she starts to harbour doubts. If the commissioner’s assassination had been their purpose, why wasn’t the bomb placed on the stage? If this was a decoy which was simply meant to create chaos for the security at the venue … At around the same time, Iwai, who is looking at documents relating to the security measures, realises that the security today had been cut by half. The person who had given those instructions was Nodate…

Arriving at the hall, Eriko searches for Nodate at the venue which is in chaos. At that moment, Nodate gets into a car with Oyama and leaves the hall. The person driving this car is the man who had been inside the venue. When Eriko finds the speeding car and chases after it, Nodate smiles and waves his hand from the backseat. Looking at that, Eriko …

Eriko is put in charge of the brutal murder of a truck driver, Kashiwabara Hideo. Entering the crime scene with Mami and Hanagata, Eriko notes that while the crime was driven by impulse, the removal of fingerprints indicates a soberness that points to the possibility of a complex criminal. Reiko says it is highly possible that the murderer is left-handed because the wounds on the dead body are concentrated on the right side.

After that, investigations conducted by Katagiri, Yamamura and Iwai reveal that Kashiwabara has a wife who had divorced him because of his violence, and a 26-year-old son, Naoto. Furthermore, they learn that Naoto also commits acts of violence toward children. Troubled about that, he had visited a counselling centre called “Abuse SOS Site”. The website is maintained by Nishina Wataru, a psychology professor from Keisei University. Eriko visits him regarding this case and he tells her that the son had been subjected to violence from his father but didn’t have the motive to kill him.

At that moment, Machida Koji, a construction worker is murdered. It is thought that the crime was committed by the same person who killed Kashiwabara because of the modus operandi. The shocking serial murders are reported together with the investigation delays and Eriko is reprimanded by Tanba. Nodate defends her but Tanba’s anger isn’t quelled.

Before long it is learnt that Machida had also abused his child and that child had also visited the same website. Eriko narrows the focus to Nishina and two postgraduate students who could access emails from the child, and visits Nishina at the university again. When Eriko asks Nishina for his alibi during the time of the murders, he replies that he had been at home because it was late at night but no one can prove that since he didn’t see his younger brother who lives with him.

The next day, another brutal murder occurs. However, this time, the murder has left traces such as shoe prints behind at the scene. Mami and Hanagata ask Eriko if this was committed by another murderer from the earlier series of murders but Eriko has a thought.

In the midst of that, the knife used for the murders is found among the personal belongings of Masuda Kiyoshi, a postgraduate student who helps Nishina to maintain his website. Masuda’s fingerprints are on the knife and it is thought that he has no alibi but he replies that he had been in Nishina’s office at that time.

Watching Masuda’s interrogation, Eriko instructs Yamamura and Iwai to obtain the footage from the surveillance cameras installed at the university. The situation prompts Mami to ask Eriko if she is hiding something from the rest of them. Eriko says she cannot go into the details because she hasn’t confirmed it yet but if her conjecture is correct, it is a series of murders that she hasn’t ever experienced until now.

After that, a check of the surveillance camera footage proves Masuda’s alibi. Then Mami, who has analysed the email queries to the website, reports that the three cases have four keywords in common: “hot water,” “divorce”, “single-father family” and “claustrophobia”.

The next day, Eriko is at some symposium venue. Nishina also arrives because he has to attend that symposium. Without realising that he is under surveillance, Nishina gradually makes his way along the inside of the venue and soon opens the door of some room. The person inside the room is Eriko. She instructs Nishina, who is shocked by this unexpected situation, to put down the knife that he is holding in his hand. Nishina gives a person called Keisuke those instructions. Then Eriko says, “The one who should put down the knife is you, Professor Nishina.”

In that instant, Keisuke vanishes from Nishina’s field of vision and Nishina realises he is holding a knife in his hand. Eriko tells Nishina that he suffers from dissociative identity disorder, or what is called multiple personality disorder, and Keisuke is a person whom he has invented in his mind. Nishina and Keisuke were physically abused by their father since they were young. The brothers huddled together and endured the days of having hot water poured on them and being confined in a closet. However, Keisuke, who had turned 30, couldn’t get over the abuse. He killed their father and then took his own life. This was discovered by Nishina who invented Keisuke in his mind because he couldn’t cope with Keisuke’s death. Then he set up the “Abuse SOS Site” and responded to emails received that included the keywords associated with the abuse he and his brother had suffered: “hot water,” “divorce”, “single-father family” and “claustrophobia”. He assumed Keisuke’s personality and killed the people who had carried out the abuse. Eriko had realised this and sent an email containing these keywords to lure Nishina. Nishina gets agitated and picks up the knife to attack Eriko. However, she is protected by her team members.

Yamamura asks Eriko when she had noticed that Nishina had multiple personalities, and Eriko reveals that the hints were in Nishina’s switch from right to left hand when using the computer mouse in his office, as well as surveillance camera footage of him moving his usually crippled leg normally. She explains that for sufferers of multiple personality disorder, their personality and dominant hand will change, and there are also instances when their ailments will disappear.

At that moment, Hiroshi is in a pub by himself. When asked about Eriko by a staff, he discloses that they have recently had some disagreements. Then, Hiroshi receives a call from Eriko on his mobile phone but doesn’t pick it up.

Meanwhile, Eriko and her team members are about to go out for a drink when Nodate comes over to the unit. Saying that he has come to talk about an important matter, Nodate announces that the unit has been suspended …

Eriko is put in charge of the fatal shooting of a leader of Daito-gumi, an organised crime group. She deduces from the bullet in the victim’s head that the murderer is Tanimoto Takashi, a leader of Ryusenkai, another organised crime group. Eriko takes Mami, Katagiri and Hanagata with her and they arrive at Tanimoto’s hiding place. However, Tanimoto escapes. Eriko and Katagiri pursue Tanimoto and soon find him but he is shot in his left chest by someone from the top of an adjacent building, and dies right before their eyes.

Because a wooden doll with red ink on its left chest had been sent to the Special Crimes Unit several days earlier, Eriko analyses that it had been an advance notice of Tanimoto’s murder. At that moment, Yamamura takes Iwai along with him and goes into some club. Nishiyama Nanami, a hostess, appears and Yamamura declares that she is his fiancee.

In the midst of this, another doll is sent to the Special Crimes Unit. Reiko examines the doll and finds a bullet which is the same as the one that had been used to shoot Tanimoto inside it.

At the same moment, Kataigiri comes running over to Onoda and Kawano who are doing legwork. Then, in the next instant, Kawano is shot in the chest. Onoda cries out to Katagiri to shoot at the sniper who can be seen from the top of the building. Katagiri raises his gun but cannot shoot.

Later Eriko asks Katagiri why he was at the place where Kawano had been shot but Katagiri is unable to reply. Kawano’s life had been saved by the police badge in the breast pocket of his jacket. Sensing something, Eriko calls Nodate and receives the password to the database of investigation information from him.

Eriko immediately starts browsing the files on Katagiri but the information on Tanimoto is incomplete. She approaches Nodate again. According to Nodate, three years ago, Katagiri had received instructions from his superior, Onoda, to pursue Tanimoto together with Kawano. They had carried guns with them to counter the heinous Tanimoto and had even been given permission by Onoda to open fire. Then Tanimoto, thought to be a man wearing sunglasses, appears. Katagiri urges the man, who had noticed them, to stand still but the man slipped his hand inside his jacket pocket. “Don’t move!” Katagiri had yelled, and at the same moment opened fire. The gunshot hit the man’s shoulder and he collapsed. Katagiri rushed over and was stunned when he saw what was in the man’s hand. It was a mobile phone. The man, Muto Akira, a small-time gangster, was a decoy used by Tanimoto to sound out the movements of the police. Muto soon died from an excessive loss of blood. Learning about the incident, the top brass fabricated information on Muto to justify the actions of the police, and the incident didn’t make the headlines.

Meanwhile, Katagiri was called before a consultative committee. He was deemed to have opened fire without authorisation and transferred to another division. Onoda did not stand up for him. Katagiri has not trusted anyone and has also not fired a gun since then, Nodate says.

At that moment, Katagiri is being driven into a corner. Right after Tanimoto was shot, Katagiri had received a threatening phone call from a person thought to be the sniper. When he receives the call again, Katagiri asks what the person’s demands are and that person asserts that Katagiri has to die. If he dies, he will save the life of one more target. Katagiri is prepared to sacrifice himself for his colleagues and is about to draw his gun when Eriko comes over. She tells him that as a member of the organisation, he had not been wrong to open fire three years ago. Although he cannot erase his past, what he should do now is to arrest as many criminals as possible rather than keep blaming himself or hating the organisation for what had happened.

At the Special Crimes Unit, Mami and the rest are rushing to narrow down the identity of the sniper. It is deduced that the criminal is a sharpshooter and a person related to the dead Muto. Then, a third doll with red ink on its chest is sent to the unit. Tension runs high as they wonder if Katagiri is the next target, but he returns to the unit and discloses that Onoda is the target.

The next day, Eriko, who is protecting Onoda, asks if Yada, the counsellor, and not Onoda, had issued the order to shoot to Katagiri. She had reviewed the investigation materials and says that at that time, Onoda did not have the authority to give orders to open fire because the information on Tanimoto’s background was still vague. Onoda doesn’t deny it. And in that instant, Eriko is hit with the realisation that the criminal may know about that too.

Eriko instructs her team to hurry to the stadium where Yada is at. At that moment, she receives a call from Yamamura to tell her that the sniper is a female. Yamamura, who had slept over at Nanami’s apartment, had found a photograph of Nanami as a Olympic candidate for shooting, a photograph of Nanami with Muto, and also photographs of Katagiri, Kawano and Yada, after Nanami had left the apartment.

At this moment, Nanami is at the stadium watching Yada through the scope of her rifle as he issues security instructions. While a large number of people walk back and forth, she lines him up in her sights and pulls the trigger but the bullet is off the mark. Eriko, Katagiri and the rest of the team rush in. Yelling to the police officers to lie low, Eriko chases after Nanami but she has abandoned her position. Then as Eriko makes her way down the passageway of the spectator stands, she comes face to face with Nanami, who has a gun pointed at Yada’s temple. Eriko is forced to put her gun down but Katagiri runs up the aisle and points his gun at Nanami. Nanami declares to Katagiri that Yada was the mastermind who had given him orders to open fire and it is Yada’s fault that he can’t shoot.

Then, Katagiri points his muzzle at Yada. Seeing that, Eriko crouches down and shouts, “Fire!” In that instant, Katagiri turns his gun on a distracted Nanami and opens fire. The gun is spectacularly flipped from Nanami’s hand.

After that, Nanami is arrested and as she walks past Eriko and Katagiri, Katagiri bows low and apologises to her. Nanami reveals to him that she was the person who had called Muto when he got shot. She has wondered if that was what cost him his life and has blamed herself all along. Katagiri says to Nanami that he will make the flower offerings to Muto from now on.

On the same night, Eriko, who is alone in the unit, calls Hiroshi. However, he doesn’t answer …

Nodate tells Eriko to appear live on a news programme for an interview with the newscaster, Takamine Hitomi. After the programme is over, a staff brings over a piece of paper to Hitomi, who is talking to Eriko. Hitomi has recently been sent threats by letter. The staff suggests that she report it to the police but Hitomi says it isn’t necessary and turns around to face Eriko like nothing had happened.

At that moment, the drowned body of Yasuda Hirofumi, a freelance cameraman, is found. His death is regarded by the district police as a death by misadventure, but the mass media raises a commotion when they speculate that Yasuda was murdered because he had filmed a scoop on some important person.

Eriko instructs Katagiri, Yamamura, Hanagata and Iwai to investigate. Then together with Mami, she heads to the scene where Yasuda’s body was discovered. The situation at the scene is “a death by misadventure” as the district police have reported but Eriko feels something is wrong.

Eriko tells Mami to bring back and analyse the large quantity of positive films that Yasuda had taken. Mami notices that there are extremely few films for the month of June 10 years ago. Eriko gets the team to check the cases in that month and learns that only one major crime had occurred in Tokyo. A female high school student was victimised, stalked and murdered. It was a case in which a newsperson, who had happened to come upon the scene, reported the incident in a scoop that led to the murderer’s arrest. And that newsperson was Hitomi.

Finally, a man called Togo Hidenori emerges from among Yasuda’s friends. He had been seen having an argument with Yasuda. Furthermore, it is also learnt that Togo had been the man who had filmed the scene of the stalking-murder 10 years ago and obtained the scoop together with Hitomi. Eriko conjectures that that scoop and the positive film for June, which seems to have been taken away by someone, is the connection between Togo, Yasuda and Hitomi.

Having obtained 10-year old footage of the scoop from the television station, Eriko and her team check the video and realise that a portion had been edited out. It constitutes evidence that Hitomi and Togo had left the girl to her fate and kept filming the scoop. Yasuda, who knew that the footage had been doctored, may have extorted from both of them. Receiving this report from Eriko, Nodate gives permission to question Hitomi and Togo with their consent.

The next day, Eriko visits Hitomi at the television station together with Mami and Yamamura, and requests that she come along voluntarily to the police headquarters for questioning. However, Hitomi asks to do it after her news programme ends. Eriko agrees and watches Hitomi from a corner of the studio.

While at the studio, news comes in from Katagiri that Togo had died during the interrogation. That news is also reported by Hitomi as breaking news on her programme. Furthermore, the next day, Hitomi reads out a letter which she says had been sent to the programme by Togo. According to that letter, Yasuda had taken photographs of Togo editing the footage of the scoop and Togo had killed Yasuda in an attempt to retrieve the positive film. Eriko is shocked by Hitomi, who is reading out the contents of the letter, in which Togo confesses his guilt and intention to end his life, with a serious expression.

Back a the Special Crimes Unit, Eriko hears that Togo had died as a result of taking a capsule containing cyanide. There is a possibility a third party had made him take it but because the capsule would dissolve within an hour once inside the body, it was impossible for Hitomi, who had been reading the news in the studio under Eriko’s watch. However, Eriko is certain that there has to be some deception.

Then, Onoda and other detectives come into the unit. He says they’ve been taken off the case and removes the investigation documents. A disciplinary panel will be convened soon and their punishment will be handed out at that forum. Eriko is stunned by this sudden turn of events and goes to get an account of the situation from Nodate but he says punishment is inevitable because Togo had died during their investigation.

While her subordinates remain paralysed with shock, Eriko continues with the investigation alone. The next day, the team is hears from Nodate that Eriko is pursuing the investigation because she is prepared to resign. When she finally comes back to the Special Crimes Unit, the team also returns from their investigation. Eriko smiles at her subordinates who say that they have learnt new facts.

Several days later, Eriko visits Hitomi at the television station again and declares that Hitomi was the one who had killed Yasuda and Togo. She points out that Hitomi had treated the cyanide capsule to make it hard to dissolve. Then she had met Togo on the day before the interrogation and swapped it with his usual medication. In addition, the DNA of the skin obtained from the clipped fingernails found in the bathtub at Yasuda’s apartment, matches Hitomi’s. Faced with the evidence, Hitomi finally admits her guilt.

That night, Eriko meets Hiroshi at a pub. Then, a report of Hitomi’s case airs on the television in the pub along with footage of her interview with Eriko. Hiroshi learns that Eriko doesn’t work at a corporation but is instead a member of the police force …

Eriko is put in charge of the murder case of a teacher at Eimei Girls Academy. The deceased is a physical education teacher by the name of Masuoka Tsuyoshi who received a blow to the head.

Noticing that no murder weapon had been left at the scene, Eriko deduces that the criminal has a keen mind as well as a well-organised and cohesive personality. She issues investigation instructions to Mami, Yamamura, Katagiri, Hanagata and Iwai and heads to Eimei Girls Academy.

At the entrance of the school, Eriko meets a high school student, Ishihara Yuki, and feels bothered that Yuki perceived that she is a detective in that instant. In the midst of this, Yuki says that she used to date Masuoka and Eriko questions her about her movements on the night of the murder. Yuki tells her that she was in the study room at her cram school but can’t prove her alibi. She is the only one of all the persons concerned to be unable to prove her alibi. Eriko gets Nodate’s approval and interrogates her.

At the same moment, the murder weapon and other pieces of evidence are found in a garbage bin in the vicinity of Masuoka’s residence. Ninomiya Natsuko, a teacher who is Masuoka’s colleague, is questioned because her photograph is among those items. Although Natsuko admits that she had been dating Masuoka, she denies killing him.

Reiko reports that she has identified a manicure ingredient that is difficult to obtain in Japan from the dead body. Furthermore, Natsuko’s name is found on the list of clients of the imported manicure product. Circumstantial evidence indicates that Natsuko is the murderer but Eriko has a hunch that the real murderer is someone else. At that moment, images from a security camera reveal that Yuki had been at a convenience store near her cram school at Masuoka’s estimated time of death, and her alibi is proven.

Meanwhile, the team learns that a bicycle had grazed against a taxi in front of Masuoka’s apartment building at his estimated time of death. The person who rode that bicycle is Yuki’s good friend, Sakai Saori. When Hanagata and the others investigate, they learn that Saori had also dated Masuoka.

Eriko meets Yuki and asks Saori to take a polygraph lie detector test for the investigation but Yuki tells her that Saori isn’t the murderer and asks what is happening with Natsuko. Eriko says it is impossible that the murderer would dump evidence near the scene when the murder had been perfectly disguised. Moreover, it is hard to imagine that Natsuko, who belongs to the same Toyosu Sports Club as her, is the murderer. Masuoka’s diary and mobile phone are also missing from the pieces of evidence, Eriko adds.

Later, Saori arrives to take the polygraph accompanied by Yuki. She enters the interrogation room and Mami asks her questions related to the case. Yuki watches her from an adjoining room. Then she suddenly raises her voice and says the camera in the interrogation room is filming her. Yuki is angry about the infrared monitor which can determine her degree of tension by measuring the temperature and contraction of the blood capillaries on her face. She also notices the camera which can detect signs of nervousness from the contraction of her pupils. Why do they suspect her when she has an alibi? Yuki won’t calm down. Nodate says that there is a margin of error of one hour for Masuoka’s estimated time of death and therefore a possibility that she could have committed the murder too.

Several days later, Eriko confronts Yuki for the final interrogation and starts to talk about her conjecture …

Yuki received a call from Saori, who said she had killed or seriously injured Masuoka, and came to the apartment to cover up Saori’s actions. Masuoka was near death and at that moment, he regained consciousness. Seeing that, Yuki struck him in the head with the award that he had just received and killed him. After that, she had kept Masuoka’s dead body warm using a plastic bottle filled with warm water in order to deceive the police about his estimated time of death. She also sprinkled bleach containing enzymes on the dead body to eliminate traces of perspiration and saliva. However, because of the time lag when she sprinkled the second round, a different concentration of bleach became mixed with the bloodstains, and because of that they realised that there was old and new blood, Eriko says.

Then she analyses that Yuki’s motive for murder was because she felt slighted. Yuki noticed that the two photographs in Masuoka’s room which had been taken with Natsuko were at the same place where she had once had a date with him. Seeing that, she had probably been indignant that her date with him had been a prelude to Natsuko’s.

Yuki doesn’t lose her composure despite hearing that and says it is just circumstantial evidence. Eriko shows Masuoka’s diary to Yuki and says it had come from Natsuko’s sports club locker. Yuki excitedly says that is what she calls concrete evidence and Eriko tells her the diary had actually been found in her own locker. Yuki is astonished. Eriko reveals that she belongs to the same club as Natsuko but she goes to the Toyosu branch while Natsuko goes to the Minamisuna branch. However, when she spoke to Yuki, she had told her that they both belonged to the Toyosu branch. Eriko pasted a label over her name on her locker to disguise it as Natsuko’s. Then, someone put Masuoka’s diary inside the locker, she says, even though she had told no one about the sports club besides Yuki … Eriko watches Yuki’s expression.

A resigned Yuki finally admits to the murder. She says that on the day she received the call from Saori, she had found Masuoka’s diary in his room. In the diary, he had written about other girls but had written nothing at all about her and she couldn’t forgive him for that.

That night, Eriko drinks with Hiroshi. He speaks to her but she seems to be lost in thought and miles away …

Eriko cannot hide her confusion when Mami isn’t at the place that they have headed to for the rescue, and the numeral thought to have been left behind by the murderer is changed to ‘5′ instead of the usual ‘4′.

In the midst of this, Nodate rushes into the Special Crimes Unit and tells them to look at the computer. On the screen, images of Mami, bound hand and foot, are being broadcast live through the internet. Looking at it, Eriko, Katagiri, Yamamura, Hanagata and Iwai gasp.

Furthermore, because the footage of Mami is accompanied with the caption, “The abductee is a detective of the MPD”, the MPD receives a wave of inquiries and claims over the phone. Eriko is blamed by Tanba Hirohisa, the head of criminal investigations, for the fiasco of letting her subordinate get abducted and confined. And at that moment, the computer beeps with a new message alert. It is from the guy who has kidnapped Mami. He instructs Eriko to prepare 5 million yen within 3 hours.

Eriko gives Reiko and the team members instructions, and hurries to figure out the specific place where Mami is confined and the guy’s identity.

Then she is contacted by the guy again. Eriko negotiates with him and despite the brevity of the moment, manages to confirm that Mami is safe. She also readily agrees to his demand for 1 million yen in ransom. The money will be handed over one hour later.

An hour later, a detective who is carrying the money, goes to the appointed location but the guy doesn’t appear and only transmits live images of the waiting detective through the internet.

Receiving a report on the situation, Eriko assesses from the murderer’s modus operandi as well as words and actions that the guy’s purpose isn’t money but revenge. The ransom is to buy time or mock the police.

Then, the guy calls again. Eriko asks him various questions in a bid to obtain information but he evades them and instead declares that Mami will die if they don’t find him by morning. Reiko checks the recording of the guy’s dialogue and determines from an analysis of the voice patterns that there is a good chance that he had been an elementary, junior high or high school classmate of Egawa Tsugiharu, the victim of the lynching.

At that moment, Mami listens to the guy’s monologue at the place that she has been confined. He had been bullied by Kubota, Takeda and Tokudaiji during junior high but Egawa had been the only person to help him as his friends turned a blind eye. However, Egawa was lynched and killed for that. He had witnessed the scene and called the police to ask for help but wouldn’t give his name. The police repeatedly asked for his name and lost for an answer, he had hung up the call. Egawa couldn’t be rescued for that reason and was murdered. However, 2 years passed and the three of them were released from the juvenile detention centre. They started going together and having fun again. He says they even celebrated Egawa’s death anniversary every year. When he learnt about that, he vowed to seek revenge against the three of them and the police.

At the same moment, Eriko finally identifies the guy. His name is Tajima Shingo. He had been Egawa’s classmate in elementary school.

However, time passes and morning arrives. Tajima tells Mami if she wants to lay blame then she should blame the police. Then he activates the timing device. The timer has been set for 60 minutes. Seeing that footage, Eriko who hasn’t deduced the location feels anxious but she doesn’t show it and presses Tajima, “Are you running away again?” She says five years ago he had been anonymous when he sought the help of the police and this time he won’t show himself too. He’s still the same as before – a coward and a low life. An enraged Tajima reveals his face on the screen and counters that he had used the same method that was used to murder Egawa to kill the three men because he has become strong. Then he cuts the communication link.

Reacting to Tajima’s words about murdering with the same method, Eriko realises that Tajima intends to get back at the police by killing Mami under the same circumstances. She establishes that Mami is being confined at the biological science research laboratory which was the same place where Egawa had been lynched.

Having finally identified the location, Eriko and the team rush to the scene and disable the timing device in the nick of time. They succeed in rescuing Mami and go to arrest Tajima as he attempts to commit suicide on the rooftop.

Mami offers to persuade Tajima who opens fire and tells her not to come forward. Walking up to him, Mami says she understands his feelings because she had also been in the same situation but a crime is a crime, and the past is the past. Committing a crime doesn’t make things right. She puts down the gun which he has pointed at her and handcuffs those hands.

That night, Eriko is with Hiroshi at a pub. She falls prostrate on the counter and sleeps while drinking with him. Hiroshi gently puts his jacket around her. Then the owner of the pub says he hasn’t seen him for a long time. Since he came with his younger brother, Hiroshi replies and the owner asks how his brother has been doing. Hiroshi says they should be coming together next month. Eriko sleeps soundly …

Eriko and the rest of the Special Crime Unit team members are put in charge of a crime prevention campaign for elementary school students and perform a short skit as part of the crime prevention theme. As Nodate and other top police officials come to take a look, Eriko, Mami and Yamamura take the stage in their costumes, while Katagiri, Hanagata and Iwai watch the scene from the side of the stage.

In the middle of the performance, Mami, who had originally been reluctant to perform, loses motivation and tries to get off the stage. Eriko tells her to stay but in the end Mami gets down. The next day, she just sends an email to the Special Crimes Unit and is absent from work. A furious Eriko says she will fire Mami from her job. Reiko, who was Mami’s former boss, happens to hear about this.

At that moment, a young man dies from being shot in the head and abdomen. Eriko heads to the scene. A portion of the blood which was left at the scene looks like a symbol and that weighs on her mind. The next day, another fatal shooting of a man takes place. His head and abdomen have also been shot and the numeral ‘4′ is written with blood next to his body. Eriko analyses that the traces of blood found at the first crime scene were also in the numeral ‘4′. Her opinion is that the murders are fuelled by a grudge judging from the explicit messages left behind and the numeral ‘4′ signifies the murder of 4 people.

As they lose contact with Mami, the team learns that the two men who were murdered had been the culprits in the lynching of a youth five years ago. Two people out of the three who were arrested have been killed. Eriko and her team members head over to protect Tokudaiji Yu, the remaining survivor, and Ono Shigeru, who had kept a look out during the lynching. Ono is given protection but Tokudaiji has been murdered. He’s the third victim. If the numeral ‘4′ is a warning on the number of murder victims, who is the final target? And who is the murderer …?　

Egawa Yuki, the older brother of the Egawa Tsugiharu, the youth killed in the lynching, is thought to be the murderer. However, they learn that Yuki is currently living abroad.

At that moment, Yamamura visits Mami’s apartment but there is no answer even when he rings her doorbell. He gives up and as he turns back, finds a candy that had fallen along the way. It resembles the prop that Mami had used during the skit. Yamamura hurriedly calls Reiko and asks her to analyse it.

At the same moment, Eriko is in the Special Crimes Unit reading documents related to the lynching case. According to the documents, the three guys were high school classmates. They had picked a fight with Egawa Tsugiharu, who had been playing arcade games. Not only did they batter him with kicks and punches, they also took pictures which were distributed on the internet. The local police received a call but didn’t respond because they thought it was a prank, and, in the end, Tsugiharu died. The guys were arrested but the police response was condemned. The police response was condemned … Just as an idea occurs to Eriko, Yamamura and Reiko burst in.

Reiko says the results of her analysis shows no signs that Mami had returned to her home since the day of the skit. Furthermore, the candy that Yamamura had found has been identified as Mami’s. She also says tyre marks similar to those left at the murder scenes had been found in the vicinity of Mami’s apartment. Hearing that, Eriko suspects that the murderer’s motive is to exact revenge for the lynching and the fourth person indicated by the numeral ‘4′, is the police which had done nothing and left Tsugiharu to his fate. And she says that person is Mami.

At that moment, an email is received. When an address in there is clicked, an video appears. It is Mami who has been confined somewhere. Her hands and feet have been bound and she has been placed in an empty tank. Water is rapidly filling the tank from above. Tension suddenly fills the room, but Eriko and Katagiri calmly analyse the image. They determine that the place where Mami has been confined is a vacant hospital in the suburbs.

The team rushes to the hospital which is in ruins. They search every room and finally find the room captured in the video. There is an enormous water tank in there and inside the tank is a doll thought to represent Mami. They see the numeral ‘5′ on its chest …

Eriko is put in charge of a case involving a succession of assaults on the models who are readers of the female magazine ‘Episode’. Nodate says detectives have been attached to the other models as a precaution but another incident happens at that moment.

The third victim, Higuchi Yukari, didn’t sustain serious injuries but suffered emotional trauma. Sympathising with her circumstances, Eriko leaves Mami behind in the hospital room for protection. Then she explains the details of the case to Katagiri, Hanagata, Iwai and Yamamura. The three victims had been threatened with a knife, then handcuffed and gagged. Material evidence such as the handcuffs were left at the scene but no fingerprints have been found. In the midst of this, Nodate brings information on a man called Mikami Hiroaki. He says that Mikami is the employee of a usual haunt of the models and also has a police record for bad conduct and stimulants.

However, several days later, Mikami’s dead body is found. Eriko, who heads to the scene, hears from forensics that there’s a high possibility that Mikami had committed suicide. In fact, a memo that looks like a suicide note and a syringe used to inject potassium chloride, which was the cause of death, had been left behind at the scene. Returning to the Special Crimes Unit, Eriko declares to the detectives who are about to close the case that Mikami was murdered. Reiko also says that Mikami had been bound hand and foot and had died from an injection of drugs. Eriko points out the differences between the first, second and third crimes, and surmises the existence of another assailant.

At that moment, a man called Kaneda Toshihiko emerges as a suspect in Mikami’s murder. Kaneda had been submissive because he was Mikami’s junior but grew to hate Mikami as a result of the indignities that he had been subjected to. Katagiri and Iwai try to take Kaneda in for voluntary questioning to but Kaneda refuses to take advantage of its “voluntary” nature. Kaneda’s involvement in Mikami’s murder and the assault on the ladies seems clear but because there is no conclusive evidence, they cannot search his house.

Due to the urgency of the situation, Eriko decides to get the female victims to meet Kaneda. She says that the victims had seen their assailant up close so if they have close contact with Kaneda they’ll know if he is the criminal. The team members object because it is too dangerous but Eriko decides to implement the operation. Yukari’s role is to confirm if Kaneda is the assailant.

During the stakeout later, Yukari waits together with Yamamura for Kaneda to appear. He soon turns up and draws near to Yukari and Yamamura as he walks over. Amid the rising tension, the gap between the two of them finally closes and Yukari identifies Kaneda as the assailant. Then in the next instant, Kaneda reaches for Yukari’s hand and attacks her. Yamamura jumps at him with a tackle. Katagiri, Hanagata, Iwai and Onoda also come and take Kaneda into custody.

Several days later, Eriko visits Yukari who has returned to work as a model. Eriko says she has obtained a warrant to search the house so they can seize everything inside. Yukari looks relieved. In response to Yukari’s smile, Eriko tells her that the house they are searching isn’t Kaneda’s house but hers and Yukari is astonished. Eriko says Yukari was the one who had used Mikami and Kaneda, and instructed them to attack the models. At first, she had given Mikami money to commit the assaults but when Mikami wanted more money she got angry and asked Kaneda, who likes her, to kill Mikami. A dutiful Kaneda did as he was told and killed Mikami. He also carried out the second assault.

Yukari pretends to be innocent in spite of this. Eriko presents the evidence gathered by Mami, Yamamura and the rest of the members, and drives her further into a corner. Yukari finally admits to the crimes which was motivated by the greater popularity of the other two models. She looks at Eriko and asks when Eriko had suspected her. Eriko replies that it was when she had first visited the hospital. Even though Yukari had said that she was attacked on her way home from the launch of a brand’s new product, she wasn’t wearing the latest high heels but a design from two years ago. That was the moment things clicked into place, Eriko says. In other words, Yukari had worn the old design because she knew that Kaneda would attack and she would get dirty. This stuns Yukari.

That night, Eriko meets Hiroshi at a pub. They spend a happy time together. Then Hiroshi excuses himself to go to the toilet and asks Eriko to let him settle the bill. She opens his bag in order to take his wallet. There’s a postcard inside and on it is a cherry blossom seal which is found on all mail that comes out of prison …

Eriko hears from Hanagata that a person has posted messages about killing people on a crime related website. This person calls himself “god” and has even made the names, addresses and photos of the dead bodies of three females he had killed public but in these messages there is also information on the fatal stabbing of a female university student which they have just been notified of. Because the other two cases are actual incidents and “god” had written about the locations and circumstances of death before the police announcements, Eriko suspects that they are serial killings.

She instructs Mami, Katagiri, Yamamura, Hanagata, Iwai to review the two cases and brings Mami to the scene where the dead body of the female university student had been found.

Hearing from the investigators that the female university student had died from a single stab to the heart, Eriko guesses that it is a crime by an experienced killer. However, Mami says that from the angle of the murder weapon, only the victim could have stabbed herself.

Then Reiko, who has examined the second case of unnatural death that “god” says he had committed, concludes that it wasn’t a murder but an accident. Yamamura and Iwai, who are pursuing the first case which was a drowning incident, also report that it had been an accident.

Meanwhile, praises for “god” spring up on the internet and people commissioning “god” to commit murder even emerge. Katagiri and the others obtain 23 names and contacts of murder targets from the supporters of “god” and arrange for the protection of 21 of them.

At that moment, Onoda’s team arrests “god”. The person who was arrested is a young man called Fujiwara Masaru who is an eavesdropping enthusiast. Fujiwara obtains information on accidents involving the loss of life from the fire department’s transmitter that he taps and rushes to the scene before anyone else. He then posts the photographs taken of the victims on the internet and makes them public.

Just when it seems that the case has been solved, two consecutive murders take place. The dead are the two people whom “god” had been commissioned to kill and couldn’t be contacted. An “X” marked in blood is left on the walls of both crime scenes and surveillance videos show a man dressed in a black gown with a huge knife in his hand.

From the consistency of the murder’s technique and outfit with the information that has been written on “god” on the internet, Eriko conjectures that they are crimes committed by someone who admires “god” so much that he imagines that he is the real “god”. Now that he has succeeded in two murders, the murderer will carry out the commissions posted on the internet and commit one murder after another. Eriko suggests using herself as a decoy to lure the murderer. She says that if her own name is posted in the website where the commissions are gathered and it is written that murder is hoped for her, the murderer should respond and make his move. The top brass is not pleased to hear of this but Nodate offers Eriko his full support.

At the Special Crimes Unit, Hanagata immediately commissions Eriko’s murder with the post, “Only god can kill the police”.

And their operation gets underway …

Pretending to go home at night, Eriko enters an isolated house. Mami is inside the house. Katagiri and the rest of the team members as well as the detectives of the First Investigative Division have hidden themselves around the perimeter of the house. As time quietly passes by, a man clad in black who is thought to be the murderer finally appears. However, he seems to realise that there is a police stakeout and makes a getaway. The team members give pursuit and Katagiri faces off against the man. He raises his gun and aims at the man but is unable to pull the trigger and the man runs off.

Eriko is disgusted to hear over the wireless that her team had let the man slip through their fingers. She rushes out of the house and chases after him.

At that moment, Hanagata is having a scuffle with the man who has taken refuge at a place that looks like a warehouse. However, the man holds him at knife-point and he finds himself facing certain death. Then Iwai appears with a gun in hand. The man throws the knife at Iwai, jumps through a glass window and leaps outside. Eriko gives chase. Hanagata and Iwai also link up with her before long. The man is now inside a shed. Eriko asks Hanagata and Iwai to provide cover for her and she attempts to enter the shed. However, she instantly detects the smell of gasoline and tells Hanagata and Iwai to get away as she backs off too. At that same moment, an explosion occurs and the cabin is in flames. Onoda’s team soon rushes over and finds the dead body of the man in their search of the shed.

Onoda urges a weary looking Eriko to go home. She leaves for home with a police officer, Inoue Kosuke, as her escort. When they arrive outside her apartment, Inoue asks to use the bathroom. She readily consents and lets him enter her home.

At that moment, Katagiri receives a call from Reiko who says that the dead body found in the cabin isn’t that of the murderer.

In the bathroom, Inoue starts to remove his police uniform to reveal that he is dressed in a black gown. Holding a knife in his hand, he quietly emerges from the bathroom and approaches Eriko. As he is about to brandish the knife at Eriko, who has her back to him, she turns around and retaliates. Mami, Katagiri and Hanagata burst in at that moment but Eriko has already pinned Inoue’s arms behind his back. When Hanagata asks Eriko how she had known that Inoue is the murderer, she replies that it is because the lace-up police shoes that Inoue is wearing is an old pair that is no longer used now.

Several days later, Eriko meets Hiroshi again. Hiroshi, who doesn’t know that she is a detective, worries that she seems to be having a hard time at work. Eriko is delighted by his tenderness …

40 years old and single, Osawa Eriko, a former career official is selected to be the head of the First Investigative Division’s newly established Special Crimes Unit upon her return from America. Eriko had a promising future ahead of her but some scandal caused her demotion and she went to study in America on the pretext of training. She spent 5 years learning at the FBI and has just returned to Japan.

Nodate Shinjiro, an aide to the counsellor and Eriko’s contemporary, was the person who had led the establishment of the Special Crimes Unit. Nodate explains to journalists gathered at the Metropolitan Police Department that the Special Crimes Unit is a team that will address violent crimes through specialised investigations like forensic science.

Happy to be working as a detective again, Eriko meets the detectives that have been assigned to the Special Crimes Unit. She had heard that they are an elite group but the members are Kimoto Mami, who has been thrown out of the Forensics Science Unit because she cannot wake up in the morning; Katagiri Takuma, who is disgusted to belong to the organisation; Yamamura Keisuke, a man from the Community Safety Division with the nickname of Metropolitan Police Department’s biggest blunderer; Hanagata Ippei, a rookie detective who only has more motivation than others; and Iwai Zenji, who has been thrown out from the Organised Crime Division because of his involvement in violence. They can hardly be called elite detectives.

Eriko’s appointment as the first female unit head of the First Investigative Division pays off and is well received by the mass media. The top brass of the Criminal Affairs Department, head of criminal investigations Tanba Hirohisa and counsellor Yada Kenzo, snicker that even if the Special Crimes Unit were to end in failure, it would be a setback for Nodate.

As this is taking place, the unit receives a report that the charred body of an unidentified man has been found at the river bank of the Arakawa. Strangely, only the upper torso had been burnt and one of the arms is broken. Eriko immediately heads to the scene with Mami and Katagiri. However, they are treated like a nuisance by the detectives of the First Investigative Division and turned away. The head of the First Investigative Division Onoda Tadashi declares to Eriko that the First Investigative Division brings together the best men so she should back off.

Before long, the identity of the victim is determined. He is Maeda Satoru, a black market financier who charged exorbitant interest. Narahashi Reiko, the Forensic Unit’s medical examiner reports to Eriko that the cause of death was heart failure but there were chemically synthesised materials that had stuck to the skin on his upper torso when the explosion had occurred. She also knows that Maeda had gone up the steel tower at the scene just before he died, had suffered a heart attack and had fallen down after his death.

There is finally proof to indicate that Maeda had been threatened by someone and made to go up the steel tower against his will. It also emerges that the dead body of a homeless person with a charred upper torso just like Maeda’s had been found. Eriko deduces that these are serial murders which were committed by the same criminal using explosives. There is a strong possibility that the criminal is a technician who isn’t highly educated and a third murder will definitely be committed sometime soon.

A new victim emerges, just as Eriko had conjectured. The victim is Kojima Fumihiko, a bank employee. At that moment, a man thought to be the culprit is arrested. That man is Nogaki Taizo, the owner of a local factory that handles chemicals.

Nogaki is thought to have planted the next bomb but he is evasive, warding off questions during the interrogation so the detectives are unable to obtain information from him. Then Eriko takes over the interrogation, prodding the proud Nogaki with a bluff, she eventually makes him tell her how to defuse the bomb.

The fourth target is Noguchi Yoko, the president of Koukyou Chemicals who has caused the decline of Nogaki’s factory. Noguchi, who is outfitted with a bomb in the style of a vest made by Nogaki, has a terrifying time. The bomb disposal crew that has arrived there defuses the bomb with the information from Eriko. Noguchi narrowly escapes death.

Eriko’s big gamble with Katagiri and the rest had not only completely fooled Nogaki, but also Onoda and the detectives of the First Investigative Division, Nodate and Mami. Anyone who had seen her skill couldn’t help but think that it was splendid. The members of the Special Crimes Unit begin to realise the importance of Eriko’s existence in the days since she took up the position as the head of the unit.

Meanwhile, Eriko, who has finished work, walks along the streets with light steps. Then she sees the figure of a person standing in wait. A smile lights up her face and she rushes over. The man, Ikegami Hiroshi, who is dressed like a blue-collar worker, smiles at her. They exchange glances and seem to have the happy mood of a pair of lovers …
