Kim Jeong-hwa cast as female warrior in "Gwanggaeto the Great"

Actress Kim Jeong-hwa has been cast for the "King Geunchogo" follow up, KBS 1TV historical drama "Gwanggaeto the Great" (written by Jo Myeong-joo and produced by Kim Jong-seon).

"Gwanggaeto the Great" is a historical drama that draw the time of the great King, Gwanggaeto and before Kim Jeong-hwa, Lee Tae-gon and Jang Sin-yeong have been cast.

Kim Jeong-hwa will be playing the Malgal tribe princess and a natural born female warrior Seol Ji. She is King Gwanggaeto's bodyguard and protects him to the very end.

Attempting at a historical drama for the second time since 2008 KBS 2TV "Land of wind", Kim Jeong-hwa said, "I've wanted to challenge myself with a character like this one but there were no opportunities. I'm glad I can show another side of me through this character in this project. I will do my best to be a relating character".

Meanwhile, Kim Jeong-hwa is in the middle of practicing martial arts. She has also had two accidents where she fell off her horse while horseback riding. However, she hasn't been taking a break and passionately preparing for her character.

Lee Tae Gon is King Gwanggaeto, the greatest Korean’s King

Lee Tae Gon, pictured above, will lead upcoming KBS1 period drama , titled King Gwanggaeto the Great.
He’ll play the King himself, using name Dam Guk which is the child name of the King.
King Gwanggaeto is considered as the greatest Korean historical heroes. King Gwanggaeto ruled Goguryeo and during his period, Goguryeo became the major power in East Asia.

This is the second period drama for 33-year-old Lee Tae Gon and his back to back leading role after romance drama Golden Fish.
He said that he honored to perform the greatest Korean king and now he’s working hard learning horse riding and martial art. He’s even asking some advice from senior actor Kim Jin Tae.

King Gwanggaeto the Great’s production team already finished casting job, beside Lee Tae Gon they picked Kim Seung Soo (Chuno), Kim Jung Hwa ( Good Job, Good Job) and Jang Shin Young ( I am Legend).

We think it’s quite a risk for KBS to choose King Gwanggaeto to replace currently airing drama , King Geunchogo. They both historical dramas with similar story. After watched 60 episodes King Geunchogo, we imagine tv viewer at home must be bored to watch another King’s story.
Besides, King Geungchogo didn’t do great in rating. It’s best achievement so far is 13% and suffered single digit rating in its first nine episodes.

Jo An returns as spy in "Gwanggaeto the Great"

In the new KBS 1TV drama "Gwanggateto the Great", Jo An is Dam-seok's (Lee Tae-gon/ Gwanggateto the Kind) little sister Dam-joo.

She sacrifices herself as a hostage captured into the enemy's palace, sneaking away secret information and helps her brother's work. She is one of the main roles played in helping King Gwanggaeto build the Great Empire. She is the spy princess.

Using her unique image, she will be playing the lovely princess Dam-joo.

Meanwhile, "Gwanggaeto the Great" is a 80 episodes drama about the desire and passion of the 19th King Gwanggaeto to conquer the Joong Won province in the Goguryo times. It will be broadcast after "King Geunchogo".

This drama is already destined to fail.

The writer of Three Dads and One Mom is penning it. That was a shitty 16 episode drama alone. I can't imagine the same writer creating a thought-provoking EIGHTY episode sageuk when her short contemporary projects were anything but (thought-provoking).

Hm.... not that into historical dramas and this one has around 40 episodes aired already.
I'll just wait for the subbed episodes where T-aras Eunjung arrives and watch them *lol* XP

"Gwanggaeto the Great" Jang Sin-yeong steps down, Oh Ji-eun gets on

KBS 1TV "Gwanggaeto the Great" leading actress Jang Sin-yeong voluntarily stepped down.

The staff explained, "She was pressured at the cast so she stepped down. We tried persuading her but it didn't work. She has already done some scenes, but not many".

Jang Sin-yeong was to play the role of Yeon-hwa who had all the favors of King Gwanggaeto.

Her replacement hasn't been confirmed yet. Instead, the weight has been reduced and a new character Do-yeong had been created. She will be placed as the sister of Yeon-hwa or a relative. Oh Ji-eun (30), 'Bong-ee' from KBS 1TV "Smile, Dong Hae" has been cast for the role of Do-yeong.

The staff say, "Oh Ji-eun is a character that forms a love line between Lee Tae-gon, King Gwanggetto. As soon as an internal tuning for the absence of Yeon-hwa has been set up, she will be put in the shoot".

"Gwanggaeto the Great" has the story of King Gwanggetto who led the renaissance of Koguryo. It will first be aired on the 4th of June at 9:40PM.
