AAh of coarse.

No you would not be wrong.

If there is an evil that you can not defeat through just good means, what do you do?

Do you commit evil to destroy evil, or do you stay steadfastly just even if it mean surrendering to evil.

Every action in this world can't be labeled as right or wrong, good or bad. It depends on your perception of what that person did. Everyone make different perceptions of actions. That's why good guys make bad things sometimes and bad guys make good things sometimes.

I think it's a real fine line. The laws are there to try to keep us safe and protected. So when someone breaks the law, regardless of the reason, they are still breaking rules that help us.

Though, I think if it really does benefit the world as a whole, I don't think I would judge nor try to condemn a person for it.

Subjectively, he is in the grey area. I am sure he believes that if he must do evil to bring about good, then he will, and if that makes him evil, then so be it.

To be lawful is not to be moral. Laws are socially constructed, morals are not- if he does something unlawful to increase the greatest good, then it is not a villain or immoral.

Now I am thinking about Robin Hood. A "villain" to the "villains", and a "hero" to the people. It is all a matter of perspective. Here is a quote from one of my favorite book series.

“The Second Rule is that the greatest harm can result from the best intentions. It sounds a paradox, but kindness and good intentions can be an insidious path to destruction. Sometimes doing what seems right is wrong, and can cause harm. The only counter to it is knowledge, wisdom, forethought, and understanding the First Rule. Even then, that is not always enough.” - Terry Goodkind - Stone of Tears(Book 2 of the Sword of Truth series)

I suppose I chose this quote because in many iterations of Robin Hood, his good intentions did unwittingly cause harm. For instance, the people being punished and harmed for not divulging the whereabouts of Robin. Some of those people resented him for bring down the wrath of the Sheriff on them.

There are many other examples of this...double edged sword I believe I will say. But in the end, like I said, it is perspective that decides.
