What is the Value of Yonsama’s Handwritten Letter
from His Early Days?

original in japanese: Chosun Online (Japanese) 2008/01/12
translated into english: a sweet sister / bb's blog

Hallyu’s top star BYJ is in the news
for a handwritten letter written during his days as a newcomer,
which was professionally appraised
at a minimum value of 2.5m Korean won (about 290m yen).

On the KBS2 program, Economic Vitamin to be broadcast on the 14th,
professional appraisers appraise various items from all over Korea
that have some connection to stars.
For this show, BYJ’s handwritten letter
along with Korea’s newest swim star, Park Tae Hwan’s swimming trunks
will be appraised.

The program received word from a Ms Yoon
that she has a letter from BYJ
when he was appearing in the KBS2 TV drama, Salut D’Amour around 1994,
and when the letter was professionally appraised,
she was told that the value was 2.5 million won.

The appraiser said,
“This was my first time seeing a handwritten letter by BYJ from his early days
so there is an element of rarity to it.
The signature is the same as the early period,
and we have confirmed that it is the response that BYJ wrote
and we have given a minimum appraisal of 2.5 million won.
If this letter is to be appraised in Japan,
and judging by a recent photograph
that went for 30 million won (about 3.48 million yen),
I think a handwritten letter would be appraised much higher” he explained.

[Translation] that fan letter

happiebb wrote in her blog ~

okay, first things first... gotta say sweet sister had cautioned about the accuracy of the translation of this letter. seems like the japanese version wasn't that 'smooth'... mmm, maybe the scanned contents wasn't all that easy to decipher. anyway, just read this with perhaps three(?) pinches of salt, hee...

here goes...

Dear Ms OO,

Annyong haseyo! I received the letter that you sent me which I had the opportunity to read.

My response to you has been quite late in coming hasn’t it? I am very sorry for this. I was unable to send my reply to you sooner. You wrote that you are a third year middle school student, is that correct? I know that there is not much time left to prepare for the high school entrance exams but have you completed your final preparations?

I believe that the outcome will be successful so please do your best until the end.

Please be strong too.

Also I am grateful for the great love that you send to me.

I hope that I will be able to greet you in the days to come showing myself as a more developed actor.

It has grown colder recently, hasn’t it? Please take care not to catch a cold.

Please take care of yourself and may you be happy.

P.S. I am sorry that I am unable to write you a long letter. Did I mess up by writing this letter?

Saw this piece posted at Baidu by Wenny511, regarding TWSSG Part 2.

Original Japanese version posted on JOB by tk3.
Japanese to Chinese : Wenny from Joon’s Family

Director Kim’s Interview “The King will be back”

Director Kim’s TWSSG did not finish telling a lot of stories … the King will be back

“We have not finished, right? Maybe in our hearts, it will never finish.”
After the last scene of TWSSG was finished, Director Kim did an OK signal, all the actors and staff cheered together. (From TWSSG special episode).

From the start of planning until the end of filming, the long three years journey was finally over. He said loudly, “TWSGG had not finished.”

Talk around the show was still active till the year end reward ceremony, it did not cool down.
In order to ask about the director’s meaning…
Went to his office in 狎鸥亭洞 (ps : I am not familiar with locations in Seoul), where he was busy preparing for the next show during the whole of winter.

Director Kim answered,
“Yes. Someone was telling me, “You can now relax”
But for me, I did not feel that it was over.
Showing in Korea may be finished, but, overseas showing has just started.
To us, TWSSG is a drama that is not finished”

He also said, when 黎明の瞳 (ps : guess it’s one of Director Kim’s movie?) and “Hour Glass” were finished, I really felt a great relieve from my shoulder, I was feeling happy. But I am not used to face with finishing of TWSSG.
“Original estimated to be a relax conversation, but for me, it is a drama in progress.”

Director Kim spoke about planning of “Part 2”.
“In the last episode, Damdeok walked into the light, a lot of audience thought he was dead.
Actually not, it was just a symbol of disappearance of the heavenly force, the King was not dead.
However, there is no mention about the King is alive, activity of four gods, and the ambitious Hwacheons gang etc, hence there is plan to proceed with the content of part 2.
Now preparing scripts enough for 16 to 20 episodes.
New story will start from countries around Koguryo, and describe the active appearance of Damdeok and Four Gods.”

Director Kim said,
“Now, we are still waiting for a suitable time, the exact filming program has not been decided. Will wait until health condition gets better, then I will think carefully about issues of Part 2.”
This was the explanation.

here is another from suehan
[Kim Jonghak’s side said, “The plan for TWSSG season 2 is on the way, and the key is to bring the casts together.”]
January 19th, 2008 (Sat) 07:01 Newsen

[Newsen, Reporter Cho Eunbyul] “If Director Kim Jonghak will produce ‘TWSSG’ season 2, then I’ll appear to show the unfulfilled love.” (BYJ’s acceptance speech at the 2007 MBC Grand Acting Award Ceremony) BYJ’s acceptance speech came from MBC Grand Acting Award at the end of last year may be expected to become a reality.

A senior officer of Kim Jonghak Production which produced the fantasy historical drama ‘TWSSG’ (Scenario; Song Jina, Park Kyungsoo / Directors; Kim Jonghak, Yoon Sangho) had a phone conversation with Newsen on the 18th and said, “We plan to produce ‘TWSSG’ season 2 now and its outline seems to be revealed around March.”

‘TWSSG’ season 2’s plan is at the stage, it is being discussed which form to go between fantasy and modern drama. And the possibility of the participation of Producer Kim Jong Hak and the writer Song Jiha is being talked as well.

The possibility of the participation of Producer Kim Jonghak of ‘TWSSG’ is high because he showed his enthusiasm towards the production of season 2 at the recent interview with the media. But, the officer said that he hasn’t heard about the Writer, Song Jina’s position officially.

The issue of the production of Season 2 is the casts. The official of Kim Jonghak Production said, “BYJ’s willingness to appear should be considered since he mentioned ‘Season 2’ at the Awards Ceremony last year officially”

But, another official of ‘TWSSG’ seemed skeptical in his response by saying, “The key to produce Season 2 is to bring the casts together. There is a high risk in using the same supporting casts with the main casts and it’s questionable whether it is possible in the production environments of Korea.”

On the other hand, ‘TWSSG’ will be broadcasted via NHK ground wave channel, which is a governmental broadcasting of Japan, this coming April. It will be the first Hallyu drama which will be broadcasted through ground wave channel without standard satellite broadcasting. And Kim Jonghak Production is heading for the screening of ‘TWSSG’ in the theaters domestically.

Yonsama’s Lawsuit Troubles and Recuperation,
Days of Nintendo DS at Home

On January 30, the Seoul Central Court announced that
“Togashi sued Keyeast and its director along with the Hallyu Expo.”

Togashi is the events firm
that promoted the second hallyu expo last summer in Tokyo.

“The defendants could not invite BYJ or promise the appearance of hallyu stars.
As a result of that, the proceeds based on the number of admissions
was less than 10% of estimates.

The original promise to split the operating costs was also broken
and our firm was forced to pay the entire amount.”
Keyeast states that the lawsuit is groundless.

“We have had no contact with Togashi.
There is no truth to this lawsuit and our reputation has been damaged,”
they announced as they prepared to counter-sue.
On the deadline date, Keyeast phoned Togashi,
but were told that the representative and the president were out of the office
and unavailable for comment.

On the other hand, a Keyeast spokesman said,
“Togashi entered into an agreement with the firm, Hallyu Expo.
We do not understand why Togashi is suing.
Keyeast is totally innocent of all charges. "

We can only wait for the trial results.

Yonsama is still recuperating at home from the left knee injury.

“He is busy playing with the Nintendo DS
he received as a gift from a business associate, watching DVDs,
and reading books.” (Korean newspaper reporter)

We can only pray that he is on the road to a quick recovery.
