Nagisa no doubt. As some have said that show changed my life. So many manly tears cried.

Menma was just annoying (as were almost all the characters in that series), so Nagisa wins by default.

I'll give it to Nagisa. She was a much better developed character, and ultimately had a far more tragic death.

I've never seen the other anime, so I will say a biased Nagisa. However I doubt the other anime can compete, because the other anime looks like it mainly focuses on teenagers. Tomoya is the main character of Clannad, but Clannad focuses on so many characters other than just teenagers. Nagisa is no exception to that. And you know what, I'm glad Clannad got a cop out ending, Clannad was about family, we had all the tragedy we could ever want with Key's most depressing anime ever, Air.

When Clannad (AS) was airing there were literally hate factions against Nagisa.

Also, not sure if it is fair to compare character development in the two. One has 45 episodes (well 30ish since she was what if dead) and the other had 12 episode to develop. Even so, the later had a lot impact to her group of friends than the former.

Agreed as well.

I still don't understand the love for Anohana.

Yea it almost ridiculous actually, and i try to understand every point an anime presents that is supposed to be impacting. Sure i understand that Menma impacted her friends in both positive and negative ways (some of the members of their group felt so), but the fact that 10 years later when Menma's spirit showed up and tried to bring them back together while also get them to come to terms with the feelings they had for each other was ridiculous. It was not only extremely childish an issue of the feelings they had for each other when they were about 5 yrs. old but they made it so over-dramatic in an effort to force you to believe the issue was bigger than it was. Im not talking about Menma's death being the childish issue btw but the feelings they had.
