So do you think multiplayer styled games will be the next big thing for the future? Do you think this is necessarily a good or a bad thing?

Personally, I don't really want my games to be more open to the concept of multiplayer. I just don't want that kind of thing to interfere with my gaming at all. Mostly, to me at least, gaming is like reading a really good book that is more of a personal story to me than just blasting away at things with my best buddy.

The closest thing I can come up with right now that has multiplayer interfering with my games would be how the ending could change in Mass Effect 3 depending on how much multiplayer you played. I can't recall too many people being happy about that.

The reason I came up with this was because I recently just read an article about the next upcoming Zelda game, and how the creators want it to be less linear in storyline and more focused on the world and having a good foundation for those who want to play multiplayer. I couldn't help but kind of cringe at the thought of having something so sacred like the Zelda series pander to those who wish to play with friends, instead of geeky loners like myself.

The market is leaning heavily towards multiplayer more than ever. The best I can say on the subject matter is that I enjoy it but thankfully such is never really required, expect in online only types of game. In which case I just won't support them if I don't agree with such. Yah, won't really make a difference really but it's better than going along with it.

First person shooters aside ( which I'm generally not a fan of anyway) mutliplayer doesnt really make a game better... in my opinion. What I really hate are rediculous multiplayer trophies that prevent me from getting a platinum.. like resistance 2 (10k multiplayer kills). Its kind of like a novelty when they add it to games that dont need it because their great on their own. Some examples would be the upcoming God of War game, the Assassins Creed series, or the Uncharted series.

The escapist in me, however, fairly enjoy rpgs that have multiplayer aspects, if not straight mmorpgs. I played FF11 for a while, invested heavily into White Knight Chronicles, loved Borderlands and Borderlands 2, and played DC Universe online for while also. ( the league I co created with my friend is still going strong and the only league still around since launch)

Ultimately, I think more and more games are released with a multiplayer side just to reach a broader audience, to give people options, and to keep people playing longer. I tend to shy away from games geared towards multiplayer. FPS games that I do pick up I play just for the single player campaign.

The more interaction the game has the more popular it will be. They've been pushing this for awhile now

It already is the big thing, and has been for a while now.

FPS wise, multiplayer has been along with it for a LONG time. I love it. Games are no fun at all (to me) without any competitiveness. Playing MLG Halo, Call of Duty, and Quake Live was better than any single player game because the fun of playing competitively just can't be matched in the end. because of this, most singleplayer games usually bore me after a while. I end up beating them all, and I'm left with an unsatisfactory want for a competitive game against people who have skill.

In terms of other games such as those that are becoming more like World of Warcraft now, I don't mind. I'm a gamer that loves playing with other people both competitively and in good fun.

Playing alone is too boring and easy.
