I'd assume, since Yuuna ended, they're looking for a new ecchi series. Not a fan of ayakashi but i'm not a fan of ecchi in general so if it stays in place of another fanservice series I'm not that bothered.
I'm sure someone will enjoy it.

TaigaAisaka1 I'm not really sure how to do the whole quote thing but all I meant was that jump has a large audience and the the female demographic is pretty large so while act age keeps the same shonen spirit and structure it has a lot more teenage girls and cuter art than what I've seen in most jump series so that it can appeal not only to the boys but to the female demographic who's also a big part of the audience

Yea I agree. It has that shonen spirit yet is still unconventional for the magazine

Welp, Haikyu is ending soon.

Sad to see It go tbh, it was the only sports manga currently running in Shonen Jump, we need more sports manga, maybe cricket, although that's an unrealistic dream as its not popular in Japan. But please anything except Baseball.

I feel personally sport manga is really losing its charm, especially when dealing with Shounen Jump where most manga are set in high schools to appeal to a certain demographic, because how many times can you rehash the same plot of "I joined this club... we lose the first tournament so we need to make it up in the second one especially because this our senpai's last year..." and either resulting in constant wins or losses, causing this formulaic approach. The lack of possible innovation of a genre like this really limits it and unless if we deal with a sporting world directly not related to high school, where the author can spend maybe like 3 or 4 years with the same characters such as a pro soccer league, opens up more opportunities but as because shounen jump is for a specific audience I personally think that this genre is not really going to find success in the next few years.

The fan service is certainly strong, and gets close, but I don't think its THAT bad. But I also read Eden Zero and that had 6 pages of sports illustrated bikini shots not that long ago.

Its funny, a few pages back someone commented how it was interesting that nothing else ended to make room for the 4th series. This is a lot of big series ending close together. If memory serves Nisekoi, Bleach, Toriko, and that 40 year old series I never followed also ended close together, but that was split like 2 and 2 with a decent period between them. 4 of the bigger series in Jump have now ended and WNL is going to end in about 6 months too. That is a LOT of new blood coming into the magazine.

Speaking of sports manga, maybe something that we haven't really seen in manga, like handball or something. Hinomaru was nice. There's enough football, basketball, baseball manga...

My thoughts on each series in jump

Ayakashi:Art is very nice, really like it but the plot is kinda eh.And the echhi is fine but i rather read a hentai instead.

Mashle:Enjoying it alot, the best comedy right in jump imo. It's serious yet at the same time, jokes around using its characters.

Bone collection: It's fine. The art is ok,but art style isn't really suited to be a plot/character heavy shouen fight series. Whenever the serious panel comes out, i don't feel any tension at all. If it's like a light shounen fight series, sure it's fits in very well. Also, for a h

Chainsaw: 'You get a plot twist, you also get a plot twist,oh and you too, also get a plot twist' Is how i sum up chainsaw man right now and i like it.

Yozakura: Art is nice, art style suits the story. Only complain with the art is too much wrinkles on the shirt which makes it look too unrealistic. Plot felt like it's going somewhere but proceeds to have 3 chapters about invisible man is kinda disappointing but the chapters are fine.

We never learn: It's fine. I like how author is doing the 'Buy whatever volume with you favorite waifu that won' route. Other then that, nothing much to say but it's ok

One piece:Not going to say anything cause i didn't finish it fully...until it ends

Me and roboco: first chapter wise, feels like a discount doraemon. Art feels too similar to doraemon but more polish and without fujio's charm. Comedy wise kinda flat. art doesn't suit shounen jump, feels like a coro coro series, which is a children magazine. Maybe jump wants to bring in more child readers but it just doesn't sit right in jump.

Moriking:Ain't. I don't like it. I like the premise of insect fighting to become king of insect, i just don't like the art style. Art is fine, consistent but it feels very stiff and the reaction face are too boring and not very boring and not at the least funny. Jokes feel flat for me but i do occasionally get a small grin. Art style doesn't fit in with jump that much and it feels like it's a corocoro or the very least, a saikyou jump series.

Undead unluck: Art feels a bit plastic to me,and some times the character skin looks very smooth. art style is fine, not a fan of main female design, but andy and the rest are decent enough for me to say 'Oh,not bad'. plot and everything is not bad, enjoying it alot and i like the premise but there's not a lot of explanation of why they got their powers or why are there monster or why is there this tablet and etc. there's a lot of question that doesn't get answers so i hope they are going to be answered later on.

cop and dolphin:It's fine. I don't like it nor do i really hate it. Art and art style is decent.

Magu chan:Not a fan of the character design, comedy is eh,but it doesn't really feel flat.

time paradox: Art is really polish and beautiful, plot is interesting and i'm enjoying it a lot.

mitama:Art atyle feels very shoujo, art feels a bit stiff sometimes.Comedy is not bad nor is it good. characters are kinda eh.

Dr stone:interesting new arc. Can't wait for more

Haikyuu: Not caught up yet,but it's kinda generic. I can see the appeal, but it's just a sport manga that got lucky to have alot of fans unlike robotXlazerbeam(Which was doing very well, don't know why it died" and "Full drive(It's bad,but there's some people i know enjoy it)"

My hero:Not bad. Like where it's going and Shigaraki having new quirks is fine but felt that it's a bit too early for this to be the final arc since deku still haven't unlock the other quirks yet. Maybe led off to another training arc after shigaraki got a side effect or when some others things happen that he have to leave so hirokoshi can make the other heros(especially deku and bakugo) to get stronger.Or this arc really is the final arc so deku gonna pull a One for All and unlock it during the fight against shigaraki which i do not think hirokoshi is going to do.High chance this isn't the last arc,and will follow up to another training arc.

Black clover: Enjoying it alot, like how asta's demon isn't a powerful demon and is instead a weak one due to him having anti magic and not actual magic. dante vs yami feels like 2 released op character fighting each other, which it is.The last attack on dante defiently isn't going to kill him.Either Lucifero takes over and murder everyone or Dante straight up regenerate and says that this is nothing and murders everyone. It's not as good as the elf arc,but it's still a very good arc.

This is interesting because almost all the recent attempts for new sports/game mangas don't follow most of these (Robot x Laserbeam, Beast Children, Double Taisen, Hot, Shudan) and failed.

I do think every jump series though has to have "Children" though (Between 7- 17) so they can't do the pro league, as the initial premise. Maybe follow a kid who's part of a pro league? but that seems too unrealistic

Maybe sport manga is just isn't for Jump, Weekly Shounen Magazine has a had a lot more popular sport manga like Diamond of the Ace, Hajime no Ippo, Ashita no Joe, Ahiru no Sora etc.

I don't know about that https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/list_of_best-selling_manga if you look at the top-selling mangas off all time the majority of sports manga is by jump (Slam dunk, Captain Tsubasa, Kinnikuman, Blues, Prince of Tennis).

https://myanimelist.net/manga/genre/30/sports and if you look at most popular outside japan, then more modern jump sports series are there like Haikyuu, Kuroko no basket, Eyeshield 21.

I think its more jump is trying to find something new along the same line you mentioned before. But people don't like new sports that don't follow the formula you mentioned.

I mean you showed 4 series that follow some form of the formula you mentioned; and the latest one came out in 2006. that being said Weekly shonen magazine does have the best new sports series out right now

the last 5 sports manga were; kendo, Rugby, hockey, soccer/football, and golf. They might have to go back to basketball or boxing at this point.

Personally an E-sports manga would be the best bet at this point.

If you are looking for a new sports shonen manga, Blue Lock is amazing. It is about soccor/football though.

I wouldn't mind a boxing manga. That'd be nice.. hajime no ippo hasn't had an anime adaptation in a while and the manga is too long for me to get into ~1000+ chapters..

Oh, as redx said, an esport series would be something fresh.
