So, it's pretty clear that cosplays are expensive as heck, and a good way to save money is to make your own.
Trouble is, I'm not quite sure how to do that!
What materials should I use? How should I put it together? I wanted to cosplay an original gaia avatar of mine, and I have to make the cosplay myself for that. (reference pic here)
Do any of you guys have any tips?
ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.
Can't wait for Katsukon <3
Cosplays can get pretty pricey xD
Whether you are making it yourself or not
It's to keep in mind that we don't live in a perfect anime world xD
So if you have to make adjustments to your cosplay to make it work go for it!
A nice affordable way of going at it is maybe Goodwill or some type of thrift shop :)
From there you can gather and piece together something.
For the pieces you are missing you could go to fabric store like Jo-anns or Walmart(some have a section for sewing)
And try to aim for the coupons they give out good ones!
BTW: If you should need anything for props, etc. coupons from Jo-anns are honored at A.C. Moore as well
Is this a character from Gaia?
Or is there a way to break your character's clothing down? This will help :)
Material also depends on how comfortable you are cosplaying.
Many of my cosplays dont have many layers, so it can get rather hot, or sometimes even a bother during the convention
So keep in mind what you do and don't want "weighing" you down :)
Your avatar looks like she has a fairly simple shirt with light blue sleeves, so you could easily get a white shirt and just paint/airbrush or dye the sleeves.
Looks like you have a scarf as well??
The bag may be able to find at a thrift shop, and jazz up
The skirt may be the hardest part... But there are plenty of free patterns online if you wish to try to sew it!
If you need help with anything else, feel free to contact!
I'm back :)
