Or consumers are making ridiculous demands if they want to know why energy companies are raising prices.

Electricity and other energy prices are obviously a different case, for one thing because the grid itself is a natural monopoly, and for the other availability of electricity is far more of a necessity than any particular commercial entertainment.

I thought at least SOME level of information was something we as consumers were entitled to.

It does not therefore follow that customers are entitled to any piece of information you might set forward.

For example, customers certainly are not "entitled" to have Crunchyroll specify why the licensor of a work refused to grant the rights for some particular country.

Good thing, too, since those in that region who do enjoy the material that they do have access to would curse anybody who successfully imposed that requirement. After all, it would mean no licensor would enter into negotiations with Crunchyroll if they had an interest in having any details of their licensing agreements to remain private, and Crunchyroll would be most likely to be locked out of the series that are encountering the most interest from home video distributors and various broadcast channels.

It's no more different when the result is the consumer allocating his money towards a service. And how many times must I explain myself before you understand? If a customer is paying for a service and he is granted some goods and restricted from others there should be an explanation. It might not be a detailed explanation that divulges privatized contract agreements but an explanation nonetheless.

A few days ago I ordered the mystery manga box set and several hours later my order was cancelled. I was refunded, they gave me a simple explanation that the deal was only available for US citizens and a profound apology. They told me why I couldn't get my purchase without divulging information about the arrangement with Rightstuff, but the same done for a licensed anime would be a ridiculous demand according to yourself.

OH MY GOD, I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS! I CAN FINALLY CATCH UP TO ONE PIECE AFTER ALL THESE YEARS!

I remember the attempted dubs... It wasn't bad, the voices were great actually (for a dub it is quite good) but all the editing they did with it. *~*

And I remember watching this when subs would take ages to finish.. So I stopped after that... So great to see it's on CR I now know what to do on here some more now!

ALRIGHT DATA... GET READY TO KILL MY WALLET!

Hmmm. People, but you realize you can use VPN services, right? There are free ones out there, like Hotspot Shield. The good thing about VPN is that it allows one to bypass regional locks. Give it a try.

I was like "Finally! Let this glorious day, shine upon every human being on Earth! Let the feast begin!"

And then CR be like:
"Sorry, this video is not available in your region due to licensing restrictions."

Scumbag CR... They should automatically only display animes and anime news like that, in the specifik countries where they are available! <.<

The other way here, only makes me feel that i don't get what i pay for, and makes me dissapointet. :I

That's not an explanation, its a claim. Repeating a claim does not make it any more true.

It might not be a detailed explanation that divulges privatized contract agreements but an explanation nonetheless.

And they do that, its right there in the FAQ:

4. Why are some Titles not available in my country?

While we try to get worldwide availability for all of our titles, due to the vagaries of licensing restrictions we cannot promise that every single title released on Crunchyroll will be available in all countries. Detailed territorial restrictions are displayed on each video page. We are continuously asking for more rights for more regions. Please be patient and check back for more updates! For a complete list of what is currently available in your area, please check out our Anime and Drama lists.

You are therefore demanding an explanation over and above the explanation they have already given

But they've done that much, long before this particular title was licensed they gave the "simple explanation" that you are now demanding.

When the simple explanation is already provided, and someone, as you did, demands "an explanation", the questions about your demand are what additional detail about the "vagaries of licensing restrictions" that you are claiming you are entitled to, and could you make a clear, coherent explanation why customers are actually entitled to it.

After all, the next step is to say, "somebody else has the rights" or "somebody is in negotiation for the rights", and that is already entering 21 questions territory of handing out clues to the details of licensing negotiations.

If UK fans of One Piece want to track down the actual specific source of the licensing restriction to try to lobby them to permit Crunchyroll to have streaming rights in the UK, they've got to do the work themselves. Crunchyroll can't get involved in something like that without spoiling their relationships with the licensors in Japan.

And I'm confident that there are UK members on this site would not trade-off less anime in return for your satisfying your curiosity about the details of licensing restrictions.
