Halo had the best story, especially love the woven stories of reach & odst. CE really felt like 1 soldier against the universe. Loved how it escalated from saving the last humans of reach to fighting a hoard of religious zealots, to a never ending infection infestation to destroying Halo before it destroys the universe!!!

Bioshock also has a fantastic story, one with many twists and turns that leave you completely stunned! Would you kindly go and buy it and you'll be amazed. Also, don't forget to bring the girl, to wipe away the debt. Remember them now.

Gears 2 had the most impact story of the series, except gears 3 death. Funny how it's one characters journey within the game that normally is the main character but this time around is the 2nd character. Also like how that journey takes its toll on the main character, with the satisfying ending.

Pokemon black, white, gold, silver, ruby & sapphire had great plots. All their games do but especially those cos they had so many interesting elements and plots within plots.

Dead space 1 & 2.
Despite never finishing 1, i loved how each chapter spelt out the horrifying truth. That was a great twist, had me fooled the entire time.
Dead space 2 was truly awesome, loved how except for the disk change, it felt like one continuous event. It didn't feel like 1 level to the next but a whole open world.
Then there was the surprise level, recognised it immediately but it still blew my mind. The Ishimura in chapter 9! Then dejavu on it!!
Then that twist as to who is the final boss. Brilliant.

You know, I will have to go with my favorite game for this one. And from a Genre you wouldn't expect.

Ace Combat V

It has a solid story. Every mission, every scene riveted with deep importance. And the music! OMG!

Mission 17....

Who would of thought a flight combat game could be so moving and so much while fighting in a jet... The midpoint of the mission. Thinking about it makes me almost tear up..

TO me FF7 was epic.....

Mass effect was going to be up there too... but for me ME3 completely changed how I felt...

I also like the Story line of Metro2033/Last Light... For a First Person game I enjoy it... and its made me read the book series.

-The Last of Us- I enjoy a game that takes me more than a day to beat and it had a good story.
-Most tales games- For the most part they all have good stories and they take a while to finish.
-CoD4- Yeah its cod but I enjoyed its story which is a lot more than I can say for its recent incarnations.
-Uncharted series- If you like history its pretty good.
-Mass Effect Trilogy- Many games make me want to throw something but nothing more than its end.
-Ocarina of Time- Just a classic
-Sly Cooper- Great stealth game
-Jax and Daxter- Deserves a good console reboot.

I'm sure I've forgotten some great games along the way in life, but these are the ones I can remember most. It saddens me though that currently most games are made for multiplayer with single player just tagged on. I'd gladly wait more than a year for a game if I can get a good story with it. The whole rehash AC, CoD, GoW, and Halo gets old after awhile.

I agree with you on Silent Hill 2 and Xenogears, definitely great stories and plot twists. I would also say Persona 4 because story and characters are what really makes this game so appealing to everybody. Bioshock Infinite really pulls out some awesome plot twists by the end of the game. Plus Final Fantasy X was just so epic in story and scale!

Honestly speaking, I think that Disgaea:Afternoon of Darkness had the best story. I that it might not have been much of a story compared to the gameplay it offered, but I was awed the first time I played. Yes, it was a bit cliche and predictable, but it was the first game I played where the story actually touched me. It was a simple yet satisfying story- it had its sad scenes, it had its happy scenes, and it had its comical parts- and the extras help to add new information that connects with the main story. I don't know- it just left a more lasting impression on me than some of the more extravagant mario and final fantasy games.

Others would be just about all of the Tales of __ series, Persona 4, Starcraft II Wings of Liberty, the Ace Attorney series (grouping them all as one game), and Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness (from when I was a kid).

And I mean this in all seriousness- from what I've seen of the MonM*su series, the story was actually quite well written.

tough question. I've been a big fan of FFX but as great as the characters and story was, it kinda falls flat in the end. Unoriginal if well executed.

Snake Eater was a great game, but the story....less so. More of a Bay movie in it's effects and plot twists, and less of a good story. Great as hell gameplay however, few games come close there.

Final Fantasy 7's story was.....ok..... looks like they spent more time on character and world design, as it was the first 3D Final Fantasy, than they did on story ok? It had some good, but I expected more!

Final Fantasy 6 IS WHERE IT IS AT! Kefka, Cyan, Locke......kinda Locke. FF6 had the story, the combat, the design, the music, the cutscene. It's story was it's strongest feature, and it also included the weird shit! Like that raft boss monster, and especially the Ghost Train. That ghost train was random as hell...... BUT THE STORY OUTSIDE OF THAT! oooooh yeah.

I also really liked the story of Starcraft and Warcraft 3.... sure sure Blizzard is crazy sometimes. But the Queen Bitch of the Universe and Mr. Lich King himself? Those were some awesome story moments to me, before WoW and SC2 went all New-age on us.

The Persona series has some of my favorite storylines.

Especially the first two. I like 3 and 4 more than the first ones, but the stories of 1 and 2 are simply wonderful

I really liked Bioshock Infinite and Ni No Kuni as well.
