I believe if we are to begin recommending anime, that it is necessary to share what our favorite anime titles are. This is where you can boast about what you consider the best anime to be and why.

Here is the format for your posts here:

1) One of your favorite anime

2) Why you like it

3) repeat steps 1 and 2 until you've worn out your top anime list.

A few rules before you post:

The Organization's Primary Rule: No spoilers unless they are posted in brackets such as these

Violators of the organization's primary rule will be banned, regardless of who you are, member or moderator

1) No lists with more than 10 items. One item is acceptable, although post a few if you can.

2) Each item must have a reason why you like that anime posted alongside it. It'll stimulate conversation and it'll help prevent anime lists with a lot of items on it from appearing.

3) No bashing other people's lists or preferences and you must only have positive things to say about these lists on this forum. These lists consist of people's favorite anime, and so treat their lists as you would expect people to treat yours. Multiple offenses will result in you being banned from the organization.

4) No random comments in this thread. If you want to reply to someone's list, make sure to indicate in some way that you are replying to a list. Do not use this forum as your own personal chat room about other matters or you will be banned after repeated offenses.

My Top Anime List (based on ratings of 1-10 and opinions with 6+ being good anime)

Sword Art Online (9)- This anime had such good character development that that alone makes this such an awesome anime. The idea of an over-powered main character, who has real life problems, relates to viewers so well. The action, romance, tragedy, sadness, and side characters really blend together into a fantastic piece.

Death Note (9)- This anime had such intense rivalry that the intellectual exchange itself provided awesome plot and dramatic moments. The anime really hooks the viewer into the story of Death Note.

Inuyasha (9)- The tragedy and characters really brought me through the whole series. The fights between justice versus evil kept the plot interesting. Slowly the characters changed and it also changed the perspective in which I viewed this anime. I really enjoyed watching this to the end of the main series.

Fairy Tail (9)- The action, the thrillers, the tear-inducing plot, and the characters made this anime awesome. As death, despair, and destruction came to the characters' doorstep, they pulled through each of them, using all their willpower to break through the dejected reality. This anime was so inspiring that it interested me the whole way through all 175 episodes.

Hunter x Hunter (9)- The breathtaking characters convinced me that this anime was awesome. These characters show the world that they will improve doing whatever it takes to be the strongest. The plot surfaced curiosity on how far these two main characters will go in order to prove their worth.

The Pet Girl of Sakurasou (9)- The anime provides both hilarious comedy while also intertwining the reality of sorrow within it, which provides an upbeat then depressing mood that catches the viewer into the anime's plot. The characters, individualized by their personalities, improve the anime as a whole with both hilarious and sorrowful moments that attracted my attention.

*will add more later. this is just the top, top ones.

Yahari ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru (short name Oregairu) overall 9/10 Romantic comedy, Slice of life

Hikigaya Hachiman is like a breath of fresh air in a rom-com slice of life genre dominated by dense and oblivious main characters. He's rebellious, clever, cynical and pretty much thinks that youth is a term created and used by failures and hypocrites. Despite this he has a soft side and tends to help others through some crazy and sometimes self-destructive methods.

Danshii Koukousei no Nichijou aka Daily lives of Highschool boys overall 10/10 Slapstick, Comedy

Great comedy. It's 4 koma style punch lines are hilarious and has some of the most memorable cast in recent anime. It's a show about stupid boys doing stupid stuff. What more would you want?

Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day overall 9.5/10 Drama, Tragedy

I tried to steer away from the Key trilogy and this is the show that left the biggest impact on me in recent years. Despite it being short it presents a touching story about love, friendship, death and letting go. Add to that a magnificent ED song and you're in for one helluva ride. Small advice. Bring tissues, lots of them.

I'll add more later on.

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
Critical Score: 8/10
Personal Score: 9/10
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is a remake of the classic Fullmetal Alchemist. Yet, despite this it still manages to hold up. My favorite thing about this anime is the story, that is exceedingly well written. Its near perfect in its delivery, with a good amount of foreshadowing and amazing pacing. I also really enjoyed the character of Roy Mustang, who is the best character in the whole series. Roy Mustang is the perfect balance of cool, and human struggle. He is always steals the scenes he is in. The other character I loved was Scar, who is an extremely underrated antihero. The animation got an upgrade from what the original series had and it looks fantastic. Overall the series is just an amazing experience.

So if you enjoy tight interesting stories, likable characters and gorgeous animation go watch Fullmetal Alchemist. Not Brotherhood. Because you should watch both and its hard to watch the original after you’ve seen Brotherhood. So yeah.... this didn’t end the way I thought it would.

Fate Zero
Critical Score: 7/10
Personal Score: 8/10
Fate Zero is a really good anime, but it has its problems. The exposition is often hard to sort out, and the ending is an anti-climatic piece of drivel; but other than that the show is quite good. The story is well paced, with its only flaws being the information dumps and the aforementioned pathetic ending, which is build up for a mediocre series. The animation on the action scenes ties with Attack on Titan for the best animation on action I've seen thus far. Though unlike Titan, Fate Zero actually understands what "subtly" is. Yes. I seriously just said Attack on Titan has no subtly, but back to Fate Zero. The best part of the show is its character cast, that showcases a cast of characters that all have their own sets of morals, beliefs and turmoils. Watching the characters interact with each other is the best part of the show, or it was my favorite part at least. Fate Zero is not perfect, but its still one of my favorite animes.

If you like amazing character casts, characters that don’t come from high schools and shows with interesting conversations then watch Fate Zero. Or don’t. Whatever. Your loss. You’ll probably end up a casualty in the Holy Grail War.

Death Note
Critical Score: 6/10
Personal Score: 7/10
Death Note gets a lot of hype, but does it deserve it? Ehhhh sort of? While it is one of my favorite animes, it does have a terrible second half and several characters who are so obnoxious they make me want to tear my hair out whenever they appear on screen. However I am suppose to be talking about why I like the anime so I'll do that instead. Well first off the psychological battle between L and Light Yagami is quite addictive, it kept me marathoning the show until episode 25, when everything fell to pieces. The questions and themes Death Note presents are subtle, but are still there. The reason its one of my favorites is because it is one of the best animes to show to people who you want to get into the medium. Its nothing spectacular, but its also very good, therefore it is a great gateway anime. People who watch Death Note, will at the very least see how anime is different from their preconceived notions, but you're also not showing them anything that will make it impossible for them to find something better.

So if you like intriguing tales of justice, characters with questionable morals and don’t mind second halfs that blow or obnoxious characters, try Death Note. Or don’t. Your loss. You probably just get your name written in Light Yagami’s notebook.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica
Critical Score: 10/10
Personal Score: 10/10
NO I DO NOT LIKE THIS ANIME BECAUSE ITS “DARK.” School Days is dark, I don’t like that show. I like this anime because the plot, while short, is one of the greatest tragedies of all time. While the story uses magical elements there are not any Deus Ex Machinas and very few plot holes. Also the cast is fantastic. Each main character has excellent development and a necessary role in the story. There are no characters that are tacked on simply for fan service or wish fulfillment. The animation creates a beautiful surreal environment with abstract images and colors. The music is some of Yuki Kajiura’s best, it uses the voices of Kalafina for many EPIC CHOIR TRACKS!!! Overall the anime comes very close to perfect and is a spectacular show.

If you like fantastic tragedies with no Deus Ex Machinas, a tight well-executed character cast, and beautiful music/animation watch Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Or don’t. Whatever. Your loss. You’ll probably agree to one of Kyubey’s contracts.

Ame and Yuki: Wolf Children
Critical Score: 10/10
Personal Score:100,000,000/10
I’m going to come right out and say it, if you don’t like this movie, you have no soul. Okay so maybe thats a little harsh, but Wolf Children is without a doubt the most heartwarming motion picture I have ever seen. I have an ice cold heart, one that didn’t cry during Clannad, Ef: Tale of Memories, or Angel Beats, but this feature still managed to melt it. Wolf Children is a prime example of why the journey is better than the destination. Seeing Hana’s children grow up is a bittersweet experience full of tears and laughter. Despite the fact that this movie contains people turning into wolves, it really did feel like I was watching real peoples lives play out before my eyes. The amount of character development in this two-hour movie eclipses development I have seen in some series that are many times longer. Most the development comes from watching Ame and Yuki, Hana’s children, grow up. The animation and music are both stunning, especially during any scene that depicts characters moving through nature. Overall the anime is a masterpiece. Watching Hana raise her children, and then seeing them find themselves, choose their paths and grow as individuals is one of the greatest journeys in all of anime.

If you have a soul and like complex life journeys, adorable children and mothers pouring their sweat, blood, and tears into raising their children then watch Ame and Yuki: Wolf Children. Or don’t. Whatever. Your loss. YOU PROBABLY HAVE NO SOUL...... again I admit that was a little harsh.

Code Geass
Critical Score:.......I order you to forget that I didn’t give it a critical score.
Personal Score:100,000,000/10
I do not want to discuss this anime. Why? Well because it has flaws. Many flaws. Flaws that should completely destroy the show, and some might argue that they did. However my attachment to this one anime rivals Golem’s attachment to “his precious.” First of all I have personal reasons for liking this show, ones that I won’t discuss because I doubt you care. However one thing about this show is I feel like it was LITERALLY written for me. I always want to see a show that had main character who was tortured by his actions, actions that weren’t always good from a moral standpoint. I thought the idea of this character being a leader of some sort of organization would be even better, because then he’d be manipulating his followers as well. I’ve also always prefered intelligent, scheming characters over brawny ones. So if you’ve seen Geass you probably understand why I loved it so much. Of course you might say “Well there are other shows like Death Note or Breaking Bad that fit those requirements,” and yes they do, but to me they don’t fit them to the perfection that Geass does. One thing I will adamantly defend about the show is Lelouch who is the greatest anti-hero I have seen anime or otherwise. His character is done to near perfection, and while you may not “like” him that doesn’t mean he’s not a phenomenally well written character. The first season has an addictive story, and the second has a strong emotional pull and amazing ending. The ending is simply beautiful. So yeah screw it I’m not giving it a critical score, I would never be able to give it an unbiased one, so I won’t even try.

If you enjoy anti-heros, rivalries, terrorist organizations and amazing endings I order you to give Code Geass a shot. Or don’t. Well actually now you have to because I ordered you to... It’ll make sense once you’ve seen the show.

Ok, here it goes!

Attack on Titan aka Shingeki no Kyojin (Action, Drama, Fantasy, Shounen)

I bet everyone has heard of it and if you haven't, you're missing a wonderful anime. It's very addictive and enjoyable, if you like this kind of dramatic story with awesome animation then you should totally give it a try!

Toradora (Comedy, Romance, School, Slice of Life)

I cried my eyes off watching the last episodes, every single character has it's own thing that makes you feel like you aren't alone in this world,, yes somebody else had those kind of thoughts as well. Conclusion, love is complicated as fuck.

Psycho-Pass (Action, Sci-Fi, Police)

Psycho-Pass is set in the future where you are able to easily see the mental state of one's mind, and that's friking brilliant! I don't know what I was expecting that time I decided to start this anime but the story impressed me, specially the main characters. To make it simply, excellent storyline and character development.
