Every time i use the crunchyroll app on the ipad air, the screen changes contrast and brightness back and fort, even the black bars.
i never had this issue with netflix or any other streaming app.

anyone know how to fix this?

I'll can confirm this, ios 7.1.1, app version 2.21 (current). IPad Air streaming over wifi.

It seems to usually happen during dark scenes, it gets brighter and brighter before popping back to the original position, and then repeats that process again and again. The flashing is extremely annoying.

By any chance do you have automatic screen brightness on in the iOS settings?

I do, and I think you're probably right on that because I've noticed the auto brightness on the iPad Air is much more proactive in changing brightness than previous generations.

I'll try turning it off and watching something tonight and let you know if it works.

This has still not been fixed. I have auto brightness turned off and it still does it. It makes it SUPER annoying to watch anime on an iPad.

this probably has nothing to do with your device. for several years, there have been laws about avoiding epileptic seizures in japan, the networks automatically darken scenes. Its also super fucking annoying and EXTREMELY noticeable. this should be an optional setting on set top boxes in japan and not hard coded on broadcasts. These usually aren't present on dvd/bluray releases.
