Not that it needs it, but I vote for SNAFU.

Because Hachiman is such an awesome MC, and his interactions with the rest of the cast are entertaining. I like watching how Hachiman uses his intelligence and cynicism to solve problems in ways outside of the normal attempts.

I also loved watching Log Horizon, and the MC's use of intelligence to solve problems is similar. One of the reasons I voted this way may have been that I was surprised how much I liked SNAFU, but I was expecting to enjoy Log Horizon.

As popular as it is and as well as it has sold over the years, Monogatari is not actually mainstream anything. The only anime in this entire competition which are mainstream are Attack on Titan and Magi. Monogatari is popular with otaku only, no one else has heard of it at all.

But I will be voting for Monogatari, one of the best series of anime and novels ever IMO. Anyone who doesn't get it just doesn't get it I guess but if you get it, you love it.

I guess that's fair, I was just going by it's ridiculously crazy sales numbers.

While Monogatari sales (novels and discs) seem really high they are nothing compared to the TV rating and manga sales of actual mainstream series Magi, Attack on Titan, One Piece, Naruto, Fairy Tale... they sell millions of copies of their books compared to less than 200,000 for Monogatari.

Monogatari Bluray sales are high but only crazy otaku pay that much for Blurays. Mainstream fans never would.

Log Horizon.

I loved them both but if I'm being honest I'm anticipating LH's second season more than SNAFU. Hachiman is a great character but sometimes his negativity annoyed me.

I tend to vote at the last minute so I don't get swayed by other people's votes. Like for example, if I read AnimeKami's post a little earlier I might have voted for SNAFU.

EDIT. I counted Gold's post as legit vote for Log Horizon because I realized how much he loves that show just from that one post. Stop trying to think otherwise. Please let's all respect Gold's wonderful decision to vote for LH!

What?! Chrome you are swayable? I guess it just has to be witty enough haha.
And yes that was a pure fanboy love letter to LH, I have no clue why anyone thought that was a joke.

The next battle should be interesting. I wonder if the passionate Chihayafuru fans can overcome Monogatari. Personally, I kind of doubt it.

My vote goes to Log Horizon

Because it is an anime that uses brain over violence. I love the world building and Shiroe's strategic thinking, as well as the politics between the Adventurers and PotL.

I watched both SNAFU and Log Horizon, and I really like both. Initially I was uncertain which one to vote, but Sonic 720's post just reminded me of why exactly I enjoyed Log Horizon so much

All in all, I harbor more affections toward Log Horizon, and I really can't wait for Season 2! I will definitely watch it!

What I Love About Log Horizon

I love the ideas LH brings to the table. The world of ET and the PotL being more than just computerized drones is a really interesting thing to explore. The characters of LH are also well designed with nice touches thrown in to their avatars that really makes each character look uniquely customized by user. LH also did a very nice job giving Rudy, Isuzu, Minori, Crusty, Lenessia, and to a lesser degree Shiroe, good character depth. Minori arguably is the best character in the show for how much passion we see her exude and precisely because what motivates her actions is on display for the audience to see. If every character that is focused on in the show received half as much depth as her, then I'd feel a whole lot different about LH than I do now.

Another thing I really like is the dynamic between the PotL and the adventurers. Whether it be for politics, economics, or romance, it was just handled very well and made me believe these were two factions that should not logically exist together coming together with common goals in mind. There's this rich lore to the world and yet at the same time things seem very mysterious now that ET is a real life place.

The use of smarts as weapons over brawn is always a welcome change of pace in my book as well. The whole conquer the city through food part is genius, and the formation of the Round Table with the "villain in the glasses" essentially making them all an offer they can't refuse is both sinister and clever. On the other side, the junior adventurer arc shows us what it's like if you are a noob trying to get by and how you don't need smarts, but simply courage and determination to band together and take a stand for what you believe in. Minori develops her strategic thinking here, yes, but I'd argue it's her tenacity to see them all function as a cohesive unit that makes this part special. The progression from selfish individuals to one united whole that looked out for each other using each others strengths and weaknesses was something I can really appreciate watching. Then it all culminates in the climax of Rudy being the tragic selfless hero as their hubris got the better of them and they thought they were unstoppable and invincible. This type of drama is the high point of the show and why I think this series has value.

Now I'm just chagrined at how weak my troll was. It was only a playful troll, but still. It was woeful.

It's like throwing a pitch and having it land short of the plate. Much embarrassment.
