On a different point, we're getting absurdly legalistic about this thing. That was my point with Luna, it's not so much who wins (I don't think either of them can beat SNAFU or AOT), but it's people should be allowed to vote how they want if their opinion changes and not be bound by the terribly arbitrary rules.

The thing is, there's a reason there's a limit. If someone forgets to vote, or changes their mind but doesn't change their vote before the round ends, or has an unfortunate accident that makes them miss voting, tough luck. Anyone could claim after time runs out that they changed their mind. Should everybody be able to change their vote?

I'm amazed that anyone was seriously thinking that was a valid exception to make, especially for something that's just for fun.

I guessed as much, that's why I posed it as a question and I made a point of it to point it out to everyone. I could have easily just sneakily edited my post without telling anyone. Maybe someone would have caught it, maybe not, but I rather be upfront about it.
I was also taking into account the fact that chrome hadn't shown up. I may be mistaken, but sometimes it feels like even though the countdown ends, if chrome isn't around the voting may go on until she shows up to count the votes and officially tally up the results. Especially considering that I wasn't incredibly tardy with my post.
Regardless, seems there's far too much push back against it, so it's best if it's not changed in the end.

The question on voting comes up every year. There has been... 5(?) previous tournaments already. Why must it be such a big deal?

Remember, there is ALWAYS a better anime, whether that is in the past, present or future.

Most people want to reaffirm that their "favorite" anime is liked by most. If "the majority" like the same things you do, then you "are not weird", your opinion "is the correct one". Plus it is fun to argue. I must say, I spend most of my day arguing.

except the majority has not seen a quantity of anime beyond the scope of "classic" and "mainstream".

It's not as much fun if stuff like this doesn't happen every now and again. It adds a bit more flare to the voting process, and it seems like most people are more interested in the process than the outcome. I'm not saying people don't care what wins, but that it's not really what people will look back on when it's all said and done.

So?

Edit: That's not a very helpful response, let me try again: What you say has no impact at all on what bathroom's saying. People still like validation, and 'mainstream' or 'classic' have no bearing at all on anything (well classic does, at least usually)

Honestly I treat the deadline as when Chrome actually comes in and says "TIMES UP", but it's not exactly a big deal anyways.

I just didn't wanna give the idea that I was encouraging her to change her vote in order to effect the outcome ><

Yeah, often there are a few minutes to squeeze in waiting for chrome to actually come in and say so but this time she let us know she was going to be away for a couple of days and explicitly asked a couple of folks to take care of the vote count for her. In order for them to count and have it be the final count they needed to decide when time was up--so I took sonic720's announcement of that as being as official as if it were chrome.

...Well, I'm not sure how I feel about you comparing Nagi to your favorite anime of last year, but aside from that, I think I can see where you're coming from. It sounds like you just wanted to see more things explicitly shown/stated, and I don't think that's something Nagi ever planned to do. I do feel that an open ending suits a coming-of-age story like this fairly well, but that's just me. Thanks for answering my question.
Well, at one point I thought Nagi would be my favorite anime of this year. As I said, they have a similar feel with a group of kids involved with a world ending event, romance, etc. SF setting. Shinsekai Yori was also a coming of age story. I think it is completely fair to compare them and show where Nagi didn't compare well to Shinsekai Yori. It could have been as good or better IMO. The animation was better for sure but the story was not in my opinion. Just my opinion which is what I think we're all laying out here.

On the other hand, is Hataraku Maou-sama really that good? Anything outstanding, in particular?

To offer an alternate to hpulley's thoughts, I think HMS! is THE best show left in this tournament. It's one of my all-time favorites; it's hilarious, relevant and fun.

I think it's a pretty spectacular example of a comedy that manages to communicate a few themes alongside the humor.

Mess. And I was expecting this thread to be somewhere around the second page of the anime forum.

Monogatari SS will move on to the next round, as stated by Sonic. You can't change a vote once the time has run out.
Think why you've voted for that anime in the first place. There must be a reason. If you were unsure, you shouldn't have voted, or at least waited until you had a decision.

If I allowed vote changing after the countdown has ended, then anyone would have the luxury to do so. MESS @ some of you guys thinking this is a good idea.

Anyway, Magi vs Railgun in 2 days. Let us all move on from this match and focus on your campaigns for the next matches.

I will phrase a different question.

What anime comes to mine when you hear "classic" and "mainstream"?

That's a good point.

Yeah, I was just wanted to hear your opinion out of sheer curiosity; I'm not trying to start any arguments.

Honestly the only thing I know about Magi is the Wikipedia description I read. It didn't sound that interesting or some thing I would enjoy. This quote describing the MC for example:

"Although he looks like a child, he loves to bury his face on the breasts of the beautiful ladies he meets, the larger the better. "

It sounds designed to hit all my pet peeves about anime. Pass. I know what I'll be voting for.

you should actually watch a few episodes.. that part of it makes up a very small percentage of what is in the actual anime. I was actually sure I would be voting for Railgun, but the more I watch of Magi, the more I'm sure I'll be voting for it. it's that good.

can't believe Chihayafuru was KO.
which means Railgun/Magi/Hataraku Maou will have to carry on my hopes and dreams.
