I probably will watch a couple but it's hard to imagine it will be my sort of thing. An anime has to be amazing for me to watch it with a MC that age, for example Avatar. Throw in the perverted gags and I can't help rolling my eyes.

I mean let's face it if you had to pick the most obnoxious age a human could be in general terms it would have to be the tween/early teen years. Anime just cranks that up another notch.

I thought the exact same thing, which is why I originally dropped it. but I was convinced to go back and re-watch it, and it gets a lot better. Aladdin doesn't act like a kid, and like I said, the boob gags and fanservice in general is pretty minimal.

Good enough, Mono's one of my top five favorite anime. I didn't even know it was still in the contest.

I'd just like to point out (as someone did earlier) that the gags centering around Aladdin are actually somewhat sparse (especially in the second season). They're still there, but they're by no means a significant portion of the show. The actual show can be much deeper at times. It never really goes beyond its "typical shonen" roots, but there are glimmers of something special.

I myself am torn between Magi and Railgun, quite frankly, because I thought Railgun S was more fun and i thought Magi was actually deeper. For exampe, there's some social commentary in there about antisemitism, racism, and classism- which is just a portion of the overarching political themes - which themselves are just a portion of a larger story unfolding regarding Aladdin's past.

I thought i'd just try to defend it a bit, though admittedly i'm still a huge fan of Railgun, so i'll be happy with whoever wins to be honest.

I will phrase a different question.

What anime comes to mine when you hear "classic" and "mainstream"?

Honestly I have trouble answering that. But I'll try :p

"Classic": honestly, none. That's not even a philosophical choice or anything, I just draw a blank.

"Mainstream": AoT and SAO and DBZ.

I'd add a third category that I think gets at what you're getting at though:

"Big In the Fandom": NGE, Mono-, ToAru

I know, right? It lost to a worthy competitor, but still...I'd have voted for Chihayafuru if I could've.

BLAST YOU, REAL LIFE! Leave me to play in the anime battle in peace!

What makes me sad, is that this could have all been solved if you'd sent your vote ahead of time using private message to chrome.

I'm sure she could have made an exception if you explain your situation. Too late. Chihayafuru lost.

Well, huh. Post-facto voting obviously won't work, but as you mention it a priori voting shouldn't hypothetically be a problem. Thanks for the suggestion, I might just ask Chrome about it.
