I'm pretty glad Magi made it through. It was an awesome anime to watch and I fell in love with the Magi. Despite what some may say, I don't think it's wrong to get this far.

I vote for To Aru Kagaku no Railgun S, nothing wrong with more in the world of Index.

Plus Suisei no Gargantia went downhill for me.

Railgun S to pass to next round because it was my number 1 show in spring and summer, above AOT and other good series. Sisters arc was too good! It has my #2 favorite op of all 2013!! Plus no matter what I will go for the raildex franchise cuz the light novels and railgun manga are too FEN good

I already predict this is going to be so one-sided. I'm not even that big of a Railgun fan.

Suisei no Gargantia has my vote. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the world. The characters are also very unique, moreso than most anime. They felt like a group of individuals with wills of their own competing for their own interests. The sci-fi technology of Chamber was also a great contrast to the "primitive" technology of the water people . Then that twist about the hideauze was just great drama. Besides, I've only seen bits and pieces of Railgun.

Plus the visuals were a real treat.

First of all, I vote for Gargantia. It was good but not amazing, but railgun is terrible.

Edit: Sonic is right though, chamber was an amazing and interesting character. I'd forgotten about that :D

What's wrong with Railgun, Part 1: The MC

One of the essential problems with the Railgun corner of the index world is the characters they chose to focus on.

Specifically Misaka Makoto is a 'too hot for the protagonist' girlfriend who is never able to actually transcend that role and become a meaningful main character. Even in her own series, she is unable to overcome this and is effectively damseled to Touma and his plot armor. She gets a useful support role, but is unable to actually be her own hero. She needs the Useless Protagonist with a cheat code(TM) to win her fight for her.

Beyond that, what new characterization she gets is really shallow. The only thing she adds to her 'creepily young girlfriend' persona is the idiotic Anime "This is my fight, I MUST GO IT ALONE NO MATTER THE COST!" bullcrap. She risks not only her life, but her goal in the pursuit of a stupid an d tired (but useful for building meaningless drama) trope.

Really though, that's the problem with Railgun as a series (leaving Touma out of it). They could have had an interesting character drama by focusing on the weak/powerless characters who have real problems, but instead focus on the OP characters and spice it up with melodrama and bad decision making.

Such is the ultimate failure of railgun, and why it's bad instead of just run-of-the-mill. It could have been something special, but the writer didn't have the wherewithal to do anything but a by-the-numbers action/adventure series.

My favorite anime of the year against my fourth favorite anime of the year; I think I'm cursed.

Railgun S because it features some of the best characterization I've ever seen, uses Sci-Fi elements to create a world that is easy for me to place myself into, has action sequences that are dynamic and meaningful, not merely flashy, and uses its action and Sci-Fi elements to tell a story from a perspective that gives everything ten times more meaning than it would otherwise have.

Now excuse while I go somewhere to be a nervous wreck.

wow, SNAFU owned last round.. didn't know it was that popular.. Magi and Monogatari 2nd season almost tied.. that's pretty amazing.

anyway, I cast my vote to the Railgun. the Sisters arc was an amazing, fun ride. Gargantia... even though I liked it, it doesn't come anywhere near Railgun.

To Aru Kagaku no Railgun S

I'm too much of a Raildex fan to not vote for it. Easily one of my favorite anime of laster, Railgun's Sister's arc blew me away. We all knew how the arc would end but I was simply in awe watching the events through Mikoto's perspective. I also like the sense of mystery Touma has in Railgun. Makes him seem a lot cooler than he is in Index. Oh and then there was the Silent Party arc that had Kongo Mitsuko screen time.

As for Gargantia, I ultimately put it on hold after deciding to watch the other mecha series that season. However I'm quite sure I would not favor it over Railgun easily.

My vote goes to: Gargantia

I've never watched the Railgun series, so I have no idea what it's like.

Gargantia on the other hand was great. I already had a lengthy explanation of it when I first voted for it, so I'll just keep this short: I liked the cast, the art and music was excellent, story was very interesting, and Chamber is the coolest mech to ever walk the face of the anime industry.

PS: Does anyone else have a feeling that Nagi and Golden Time are going to go up against each other? If that happens, it will be one of the toughest battles for me ever because I consider both masterpieces.

Well, glad to see all of my favorites, but 2 make it. GJ-bu and Love Live!, but that could be due to culture and a specific targeted audience.

This battle is way too easy lol

To Aru Kagaku no Railgun S

This one wins easily. The series was very damn impressive. Having seen Index and read the manga, I was super happy to see the sisters arc. It didn't disappoint at all. Spectacular would be an understatement for the first 16 episodes. It was on par to making it my legendary tier, It was at a point I would want to watch this more than Attack On Titan. The amount of characterization from Misaka was amazing. Sadly, the Silent Party arc took all the epic feel down the drain for me. Should I knock it down that bad for the last arc? In my opinion, NO! As a whole, the series is still very much enjoyable. Enjoy random pic of Frenda.
