2013 ★ BATTLE

Nagi no Asukara, I just started watching it and so far so good and I haven't seen golden time yet

Great, I knew this was coming, but so early. This is like choosing one's favourite child. Anyhow, I loved both like crazy, but I have to go with Golden Time. This is a battle of inches, for me. To choose one over the other, I have to nitpick them both.

Wow, two of my favorites clash.
But, my vote goes to Nagi no Asukara.
Nagi no Asukara had more memorable characters, better drama, and a much better conclusion. While Golden Time was funnier, I have to judge this match on things outside of comedy, so I chose Nagi no Asukara.

I didn't watch Nagi, can somebody give me a relationship flowchart? It sounds *nuts*

There is no single flowchart that can describe Nagi no Asukara because the relationship status changes throughout the series. You would need at least four different flowcharts to get an accurate idea of who likes whom at what point in time. I'd make you some charts myself, but I've got a lot to do tonight and tomorrow.

Nagi No Asukara for me just overall a much better show than Golden Time, the animation was beautifull and the setting caught my eyes while Golden Time disappointed me because it could've been executed much better then how it was done

My vote goes to: Nagi

This is probably one of the hardest battles for me. I consider both amazing and near perfect, but I have to give it to Nagi.

I loved Golden Time's take on college life and it was a nice change of pace from high school shows, and the relationship between Koko and Banri was awesome and they were probably my favorite couple of the season.

But, Nagi's cast of characters was absolutely amazing and every character had enough screen time so we could fully understand where they were coming from. While Nagi was in a fantasy setting, the emotions and feelings of the characters seemed very real; even if all them suffered from being able to express themselves and being afraid of change. There was many things for the characters to learn during their journey and all of them had awesome character development, especially Hikari, who became of my favorite standalone characters of the season.

Plus, the setting was phenomenal, the art was spectacular, and music was great.

Each week my heart was pounding and I was so eager to see what was going to happen. The show kept you on the edge of your seat. The ending let the door open for many possbilities and maybe it wasn't the most ideal ending, but it was still great that it let us as viewers be able to guess what would happen next.

The only thing that pissed me off about Nagi beyond believe was that:

Other than that it was absolutely fantastic.

Seriously.....? This battle isn't even fair due to the split fan base. We already know the Victor will be Nagi due to "eye porn" or w/e as the saying goes, beacuse of this I better see a KLK vs AoT in this battle.

However....

Hmmmmm vote goes to Golden Time: College setting, crushed on Koko, isn't s cluster F&%k Hexagon. Even with a weak ending, it aleast closed it, rather than Open ended with the Muina debacle still at play (Muina shouldn't even have been a main plot point in the second half! I am sticking to my guns on that! the story could have focused on Hikari as a main narrating plot point and made the series much more stronger, there was literally no reason what so ever for Miuna to "fall in love")

I respect your opinion.

Literally I could with either, but I feel like Nagi's overall package was slightly better than Golden Time's. I think it was the most consistent in terms of quality.

I vote for Golden Time

I like the characters in Golden Time more... they're more interesting, the dialogues' more diversified.

When I watch Nagi no Asukara, I can't relate to the characters or like them... they're just there... and really bland. Reminds me of "Shin Sekai Yori"... the story's superb, it's just the characters... I can't connect with them... therefore... it's like I have no interest in wanting to know what happens to them. [I wonder if they're made by the same authors/producers... cuz the characterization is very similar to Shin Sekai Yori].

Yup, I had a feeling these two would go up against each other. Fffffff. But as always, I've come to a decision and my vote is for Nagi no Asukara.

Golden Time, what a drama/romance. I give this series major props for showing the reality of just how tough being in a relationship can be (excluding that Ghost Banri and amnesia stuff of course.) I liked the characters in Golden Time. Specifically, I really liked the supporting cast. It was nice to see Keima Katsuragi and Nana Osaki take breaks from their own animes and jump into the world of Golden Time. In my opinion, 2D-kun and Nana were some of the best supporting characters of any anime last year. I also really liked the OPs and EDs for the series. Basically, I enjoyed this series a lot.

Nagi no Asukara...what a beautiful show. I'm not just talking about the stunning visuals either. But while on the subject of visuals, OHMYJEBSUSTHEYARESOFREAKINGAMAZING#EYEPORN. Erm, yeah. I thought the animation was very gorgeous indeed, the best of any series last year in fact. The soundtrack was beautiful as well. I liked the fantasy aspects of the story. I was particularly fond of the concept of people living...under the sea.

Okay, I just had to. But in all seriousness, I loved the story. Just like Golden Time, there was also a lot of drama and romance. I think Nagi no Asukara did a better job in the drama department while Golden Time did a better job with romance. And then there's the characters. Manaka, why are you so moe? As a podcaster I listen to once said, Menma is Moe Jesus. I say that Manaka is the reincarnation of Moe Jesus. But yeah, I liked the characters. Hikari had the most development and I liked seeing his growth. I felt that the other characters still had room for more growth and I would liked to have seen that. Overall, I really enjoyed this show.

And randomly, I decided to compare both series in the five major categories (story, characters, animation, sound, enjoyment) to see which I preferred just to confirm my vote. I wasn't planning on doing this until the Quarter-Finals and but eh, why the heck not? Though I think in the Semi-Finals and Finals I'll grade them individually and then compare their scores. We'll see though. I'm pretty lazy.

Story
Characters
Animation
Sound
Enjoyment

Nagi no Asukara
Golden Time
Nagi no Asukara
Nagi no Asukara
Nagi no Asukara

Side Note: Sh*t, that took me a while. I should be lazier next round.

My vote is for Nagi. I enjoyed both immensely but Nagi was very unique with it's setting and it had better animation and much better ending in my opinion. I was very disappointed with Golden Time's ending.

characters are actual humans beings, not just drama archetypes. drama is done better too. and more interesting, and kaka koko is best girl. only thing nagi has is animation, but....maybe im alittle bias because i really didnt like nagi at all.
