Thanks for this. I love space lion.

Literally best sound track from any show. I was lucky enough to see Yoko Kanno last year actually. It was awesome. It would be cool if I could see the seatbelts too.

Okay, seriously, as a non-hater (but in general "not-liker") I could NOT get into Cowboy Bebop. It was the third anime series I watched when I started getting into anime in 2008, and I could barely stomach through it. I didn't get the appeal of Spike Spiegel, I H-A-T-E-D Ed (she almost made me quit watching the show because I hated her that much), and could barely stand Faye Valentine and her constant "I'm starving!" as a part of nearly every episode.

The only saving grace for me was Vicious (Norio Wakamoto), but seeing him in barely a handful of episodes was not enough to get me to like the show. "Sublime and deep" my ass; it's passable at best and there have been WAY better shows that do the "space bounty hunter with crazy crew of people with issues" before AND after Bebop appeared.

Not trying to bash/troll or flame-bait; just an opposing viewpoint.

You are of course entitled to your opinion, and I respect that the characters didn't resonate with you, but you don't mention any of these way better shows for comparison. I'm curious to know what some of these shows might be.

It sounds like you have only heard the original Japanese audio, by your reference to Nori Wakamoto. I think Bebop is one of the few rare, and I mean ultra rare occasions, where the American dub far surpasses the Japanese voice acting (my opinion).

I agree ^. You sort of did yourself a disservice by watching it in Japanese. Along with, Black lagoon, baccano! and space dandy, this is one of the anime's you really need to watch in english.

I'd agree on Black Lagoon as well.

Very well; shows that are just as good (if not better) than Cowboy Bebop (with as close to similar themes (i.e. wandering mercenaries in strange situations) as possible):

1. Outlaw Star
2. Trigun
3. Eureka Seven
4. Galaxy War Heroes/Thunder Jet
5. Gun X Sword
6. Full Metal Panic
7. Captain Harlock
8. (Space) Cobra
9. Planetes (subjective)
10. Zone of the Enders

I can keep going, but my point is that Cowboy Bebops is far from the Magnum Opus that everyone makes it out to be (same with Gintama or Neon Genesis Evangelion).

Regarding the English dub: it's funny (in an ironic way); whenever there's a "Subs vs. Dubs" debate, I will ALWAYS mention Cowboy Bebop in defense of dubs because its creator stated that the English dub is the definitive version of the anime. HOWEVER, I prefer subs over dubs and therefore refuse to watch Cowboy Bebop dubbed (let alone watch it again).
