Any word if a Vizio deal is possible? That would cover the rest of the TVs in the house.

A few reaons: 1. If someone only has a desktop, perhaps they don't want to haul it into the living room to view TV. 2. If someone has a notebook, they don't want to string a HDMI cable across the floor, or put their notebook near the TV and either get up to control it or use a wireless mouse. 3. Perhaps the person doesn't have a computer (but does have a phone or tablet). 4. They have a computer, but it is too old or cruft up to handle 1080p (or perhaps even 720p) without issues. |

Sweet, thank you! Trying to stream from the Chrome browser has been a hassle and didn't look very good.

I've been loving the Chromecast support. Having misplaced my Roku while moving, I'm very happy to have Crunchyroll on my TV again!

To this, I would add: 1. Most computers aren't optimized for the "10-foot view". You can tweak the computer to be easier to use across the room, but if you mess with the Windows text zoom settings, some programs will behave unexpectedly. It's no longer ideal for using the computer as a computer. You can lower the resolution to help, but then you're hurting the video quality too! 2. Unless you have multiple video outputs nearby, you'd be taking away the option of using the computer as a computer while streaming (and even if you do, you'd need a powerful enough computer). Sure, you could get a dedicated streaming computer, but that's certainly no easier than getting a Chromecast. 3. Using a computer, you can run into other problems that you just don't have with dedicated streaming devices. Mine, just as one example, will seemingly randomly cease to recognize the HDMI connection as a valid audio output. (I have AMD to thank for that. I finally bought Bluetooth speakers to live next to the TV so I wouldn't have to use HDMI out.) 4. Chromecast is cheap. I mean, it's really cheap. I have 3 in the house - one in my room, one in the living room, and one in my workshop. I can pause a show in the living room and finish watching in my room. You'd have to have quite the elaborate computer setup to accomplish something so seemingly simple with the PC. The bottom line, the Chromecast is cheap and it's convenient. I DO have a computer that I often hook up to my TV. I find it fairly easy, but I have a high level of computer experience (I wouldn't expect anyone in my close or extended family to find it a simple matter - nor most other people I know). The Chromecast though, IS easy to use. You just need an Android device nearby. Even with the option of a computer, I still prefer the Chromecast most times. If you like you computer, that's great, but it doesn't take a lot of effort to see the value in the Chromecast. It's not the greatest device in the world, but it works well for cheap. cuavsfan wrote: I asked this a few pages back but it looks like it got lost in all of the other replies. I'm hoping somebody can give me an answer as it should be pretty simple to check. Thanks. Can you use this to watch CR without subtitles? So if you open a video up in Chrome, turn off subtitles (by right clicking), then cast it will they still be off or will they turn back on? Of all the ways I can watch CR (iOS, PS3, etc.) the only one I'm aware of that supports turning off subtitles is a computer browser. I don't see any option to disable subtitles on Android. Even when changing the language option to Japanese, I still get English subtitles. I don't think there's currently a way of disabling subtitles due to the limitations of the Android app...if that's what you were asking. If you're talking about using the website rather than the Android app...sorry, I have a rather non-standard network setup and don't currently have my computer on the same network as my Chromecast. |

Well, that made the "Roku Streaming Stick, Roku 3, or Chromecast" decision much easier--I've been saying for months now that if only Chromecast natively supported Crunchyroll, I'd buy one. Bye-bye Roku XD, hello Chromecast! (Once it gets delivered, anyway--c'mon FedEx SmartPost, hurry up!)
And before I get anyone telling me the Roku XD plays Crunchyroll just fine--this is true, it does. What the XD can't handle well is Hulu+. Meanwhile, the Xbox360 handles Hulu+ just fine but skips frequently on Crunchyroll's content. As far as I can tell, the Chromecast plays both well but falls down when it comes to Amazon Instant Video--and since Amazon Instant Video is the service I use least of all my streaming subscriptions, I'm ok with a player that handles it poorly as long as it handles Crunchyroll, Hulu+, and Netflix well. |

Lelneria wrote: What happened to Crunchyroll on Apple TV? I was excited when that hit and now its gone! will it ever come back? ![]() Crunchyroll is still available on the Apple TV. If you aren't seeing it on your specific unit any longer, you may want to either contact customer service for assistance or post in the Apple TV sub-section of the Help! section of the forum. |
