If your smartphone is Android, keep in mind the stream is only 360p, even if you are a subscriber. The Flash web browser streams are served by a different CDN than the ones serving devices. It is a bit odd that Chromecast is buffering, however, as it should be an adaptive stream that ratchets down the bitrate if the data isn't coming in fast enough for continuous play. |

The PS4 can support 1080p content without blinking, and I'm fairly sure that the 1080p flash streams we get on PC won't cause the Chromecast any issues. Even flagship phones for the past two years can support 1080p streams, yet we get the stupid "preparing for your device" message when it isn't even needed. Can someone with some authority explain why the need to degrade the quality like so? Anyone know if this has been updated to 1080p? I know the Chromecast can easily do 1080p as I'm watching Netflix in Super HD with Dolby Digital Plus sounding wonderful on my Onkyo AVR. I saw that CDN's are different for the browser. Wish it could just direct us there if it sees our phone's resolution is 1080p. |

The likely reason you don't have an issue with Android is that the general Android app only serves up video streams of no more than 360p. (It hasn't been updated for even 480p, much less HD). |

Ok, but we aren't talk about my android.
My question there is some differences about the server that provide the stream for chromecast and for PC? Or both uses the same server/network? Because I don't see why in my computer I can watch without lag and in chromecast I cant. Thanks for your support. ![]() |

Does it require premium member ship to stream to chromecast?

No. Premium membership is not required for this app. The Chromecast app is an exception to this among the recent apps. I suspect much of it is based on the existing Android code, and therefore it inherits that platforms ability to stream with ads for free users. (Despite having "Chrome" in the name, the actual code running on the Chromecast most closely resembles the version of Android used by Google TV, not the Chrome OS). |

Because I don't see why in my computer I can watch without lag and in chromecast I cant. As of the last word from Crunchyroll, there is ~ the PC is on one CDN network, and the app/console support is on another. Normally people have more luck the other way around, though, with the PC lagging. Also check whether similar quality video on other Chromecast services has any lag at the same time of day, since the Chromecast is not reported to have the best antenna, and it could be WiFi interference in your immediate area at that time of day ... (if its a general issue, there are tools for checking out WiFi congestion in your local area to pick a better WiFi channel for your router, plus Tekzilla has a simple trick to improve reception using aluminum foil). |
8 years as a premium member, but no more

I've been having a lot of trouble with chromecast. I can stream 1080p video just fun on PC. It's constantly buffering on Chromecast. Sometimes it has to stop for a few seconds every minute. Other times it acts like it is buffering for 15+ minutes.
I know my problem isn't from WiFi interference. Netflix works perfectly on Chromecast. |

Ok, but don't seems to be a network issue since I watch netflix with the best quality without any lag/freezing.
Probably this is a problem of latency of one server to another. Thanks :). I will continue to watch from my PC until this server get a better latency for me. ![]() |

Awesome! I was thinking of quitting my subscription since I was stuck watching on the computer, but this changes everything. Chromecast FTW

It would be nice perhaps, if someday CrunchyRoll might put some of their app development/publishing time into releasing some CrunchyRoll apps on Sony platforms for Europeans. There are quite a lot of us, so the way you continually ignore us seems, to say the least, idiotic.
Frankly if an amateur hour effort like Animax can put out an app on UK PS3s, then CrunchyRoll should be able to as well. |

I found out like a week ago and bought the chromecast as soon as possible! Should be a waste if I didn't..

This is still completely worthless to me. I'll be lucky to watch 30 seconds before it starts to endlessly buffer. Can still stream from a computer.
