Crunchyroll is Now on Chromecast!
![]() |
Hallelujah! Welcome to 2014, Crunchyroll!
Now to hire some graphic designers and developers to bring your apps to current standards. And work on a Windows 8 app... This message sounds harsh, but truly, bless you Crunchyroll. I only wish for the best of CR and I'm upset there is unused potential for bringing us an easier to use service that's easy on the eyes. |

Windows 8 app would be cool. It isn't absolutely necessary. It might not happen because in one year there will be universal modern apps between phone and windows so companies dont have to do redundant development.

Why not just add DLNA casting support.... Why Chromecast? WHY?!?! If you just add DLNA.. chromecast would work as well but now you can include smart tvs or even pocket projectors...
Whatever... an improvement is an improvement I guess... Just work on XBOX ONE app or HD support for Android please... Maybe Amazon Fire TV? One question I ask myself is "Why do I dust off my PS3 in order to watch my anime on my television?" seriously ... why? I am paying a subscriber fee and it's either reconnect my PS3 or watch in "ok" quality on my phone. If I would get HD quality on my phone with DLNA. That's all I would need! Would be amazing |

I only recommended it as it seems to be a strong demand for it; I personally don't have a Windows 8 device. The thing is, and this is really what Crunchyroll might be asking themselves is: How many Windows tablet/phone users exist and is that niche large enough to improve their market share? I exclude PCs only because those members will most likely just watch from their browsers. That said, if I were to buy a Lumia and I can't download Crunchyroll/watch anime legally, I will be very very sad and the industry won't receive the additional revenue. If Microsoft decides to have universal apps, then the app built for mobile can be essentially ported, which is fine as they both share the same design. Keep in mind, Microsoft's bread and butter, their Surface Pro series are technically full powered computers and can utilize browsers, thus it's not necessary to develop with tablets in mind, just mobile (RIP in pieces, Windows 8 RT). I will stress HD support on Android. Most flagship devices have 1080p displays on them, the latest LG G3 has a 2K display, these phones can support FHD streaming, and if it's not, there's a massive problem. Streaming to my old iPhone 5 looked much clearer than streaming on my HTC One M8, and it's certainly not the fault of ppi. Android needs FHD streaming support. |

Awesome news, thanks CR!

A related question that came up due to me trying it out. Why when I use the android app do I frequently get a message like 'please wait whilst we prepare your video' like CR needs to convert it, meanwhile with the iOS client it just streams straight away.

Sorry for the double post. There was originally a spam message between my two posts that was later deleted.

Just work on XBOX ONE app or HD support for Android please... Maybe Amazon Fire TV? DLNA is something CR planned to do a long time ago, but abandoned for some reason. (See hint #9 inside the "OLD" spoiler in the following message): http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-633499/upcoming-announcements?fpid=31551937 You can look at the announcement hints that came after it to get an idea of how long ago that was. An Amazon Fire TV app with HD shouldn't be a difficult mod from the OUYA app (which supports HD), as like the OUYA, it is a single hardware configuration, unlike the variety of hardware the general Android app has to deal with. Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if it worked simply if the apparent check for the OUYA hardware was changed. (I say apparent, as someone sideloaded the OUYA app onto a Fire TV and while it worked, they stated it didn't appear to support HD, which the OUYA app explicitly has been stated to support). NinnyTheSega wrote: If a platform supports Netflix, I would hope Crunchyroll is right along side it. That is a nice hope, but a bit of a pipe dream when you consider the vast gap in resources between the two companies. On their jobs page, CR totes 200,000+ subscribers, whereas Netflix has 48 million. That's why if your toaster had a video display and connected to the internet, Netflix would probably be on it. |

It'd be rude not to say 'thanks' after asking for it on the forums. Thanks Crunchyroll!

Thank you Crunchroll. Already tried out a few episodes. Works great and it looks like they added support on every supported platform. Adding Subtitle control might be nice but a lot of people on crunchyroll use the subtitles so I don't see that being a big priority.

Is the casted video the same quality as if I were to play the video straight from the (Samsung) smart-tv app?
