If you are currently streaming videos from your phone (I assume via Miracast if your phone is Android or AirPlay if it is an iPhone), you are doing just that; streaming the content
from your phone. With Chromecast, the video is streaming from the internet to the Chromecast, and the phone is only acting as a remote.
Yes, you can plug your computer in via HDMI, but not everyone wants to do that. Do you really think most people want to string an HDMI cable to their notebook across the floor to their TV when they could just sit down in their chair with it and press the cast button in Chrome?
As for the Xbox 360: I suppose you never considered that not everyone has one. Even if they do, having more than one method of viewing CR doesn't hurt, in the event their is a problem with one.
I've seen similar cases of "I-don't-get-it-itis" for Roku or other streaming media boxes, wireless streaming from phones or tablets ("I can just hook up a MHL cable), and various other technologies. Just because you personally don't see the need for something, doesn't mean others don't.
I'm glad you've taken the time to explain the reasoning behind it. I guess my situation is a little different than the average individual when it comes to use of the internet. For example, I can not receive wireless signal within my basement for internet access. I use this area as a workout room while streaming anime. However, the only way I can possibly do this is by running a powerline adapter to and from the outlet in my wall piggybacking off the circuit to my router for access of the internet. This being the primary area for working out I watch anime with a wireless headset. By using a Wireless headset if I were to run additional wireless through circuit to the basement this would drastically increase the troublesome EMI.
Thanks for the feedback I was glad someone took the time to explain to me the reasoning for needing or using something such as, Chromecast.
