A Thorny Passage

Bizzare and multivarious they flowed though the cave. Swarms of yellow four legged jellyfish-like, white bell-shaped with antenna on the top, pink oval chains and many, many more misshapen ones illuminated irregular corridors. While Mushi flew in complete silence, footsteps were to be heared. They were cautious but calm. A man had white hair, but he wasn't old, he weared a long, used-looking coat with a white shirt beneth it. He carried a large wooden box on his back and held a latern in his hand. His name was Ginko and he was Mushi-shi. The cave which he had chosen to be his shelter for this night proved to be connected to Path of Thorns, a place where Mushi were traveling to the surface of the earth.

While exploring the cave Ginko noticed weak glow in the distance. After approaching the place his heart skipped a beat. There was a corridor slightly wider than the one he came from with a dead end, its were glowing with light-blue fluorescent light, but most importantly in the middle of it someone was sitting and glaring at the wall. He was a young man with disheveled dark-blue hair, wearing a round glasses on his nose and dressed in long white, strangely decorated cloak with big collar. He held wierdly looking staff in his hand.

Before approaching the stranger Ginko, looked at glowing walls. He took out small knife and cut off a bit of glowing substance. "Dream Walker" thought Ginko. This Mushi was considered as very mysterious even by Mushi-shi. It seems to be able to physicly project people from far-away lands during their slumber. People summoned by Dream Walker were apathic and confused, the Mushi sucked a bit of their life energy and stopped this projection after feeding.

"Oi, are alright?" asked Ginko. Young man didn't react at first but after few heartbeats, he looked at Ginko and smiled evily.

"I won't let you do it" said Shiroe as this was the young man's name. "All of us worked so hard to reach this point, but you made a mistake Malves". Ginko widen his eyes with suprise, Dream Walker never caused hallucinations...

"I'm afraid you mistook me..." "You are without your guards so we will be able to talk freely, ku ku ku" said Shiroe and stood up. "Electrical Fuzz" he said pointing his staff at Mushi-shi. However nothing happened.

"Hey calm down..." "Electrical Fuzz! Electrical Fuzz!" After third time lighting came out of his staff. But it didn't leave the staff. Pale light-blue lighting shaped thing, about six inches long dropped from horizontal position to vertical and started hanging from the end of the staff pitifuly to fell off soon after.

"It was made of Dream Walker!" thought Ginko "He can control it somehow but why he is acting like this?" Suddenly Ginko noticed the reason. In Shiroe's hair there was a lot of small, bright orange flame-like creatures. "Boilling Blood! And so many of them, that's explaining it, I'd better hurry". Ginko swiftly took off his wooden backpack and started looking for something there. Boilling Blood was Mushi that increased agression in animals, mostly during the animal's mating season, making male's fights more fierce. Some depraved Mushi-shis were using them in cockfighting arenas in the towns. Normally their influence wasn't very strong unless a lot of them were gathered in one place and even then they shouldn't be able to easily influence a human being, but Dream Walker's victims had weakened willpower during "projection".

"Good that for some reason he doesn't come after me physicly" thought Ginko.

Meanwhile Shiroe started shouting "Thorn Bind Hostage! Thorn Bind Hostage!"

"Ah, there it is" said Ginko and stood up holding something in his hand, but he fall soon after. He was covered in thorny vines made out of Dream Walker! "Not good, they are pretty strong" Ginko tried to free himself but without any success.

"Akatsuki! Cut the Bind and get rid of him!"

"Get it together! I'm not your enemy! Wake up!"

Since Shiroe's friend didn't show up and his offensive spells didn't work, the enchanter decided to attack his enemy physicaly with his staff. Unable to snap out of Boiling Blood influence, fulled with rage and madness Shiroe struck Ginko

"Ouch" despite his looks Shiroes attacks were really strong. After hiting Mushi twice, Shiroe lifted his staff high and struck one more time. This time something broke and blood started to spurt. Covered in blood Shiore fell to his knees and stay like this.

"I should have been more careful" said Ginko. He was covered in blood too, but apart from few bruises he looked completely fine. "Boilling Blood feeds on blood spilled by fighting animals. Once just a bit of blood is spilled they stop their influence and begin feasting. Using leeches filled with blood is easiest way to calm them down"

TL;DR

Ginko wins thanks to his knowledge and precautions

I have absolutely no idea what's going on.

Guess that's no different from normal, though.

Oh, wait...I could do work!

...Ugh, can't believe I'm saying that.

The Orphanage is on fire and Spidey can't be found anywhere.

THIS IS MY VOTE

Shiroe looked across at Ginko as he did every morning. Enjoying a meal together, but saying little. It had become a comfortable habit, and today was a morning like every other morning had been for the past month. Who'd have thought he'd feel so at ease sharing a small room, meals, walks, quiet talks with another. At ease, yes; content, surprisingly so. Yet there was a small restlessness, a tension... and it had been there too for the past month...from the moment they'd met....

Shiroe stood at the edge of the territory he'd mapped, looking forward at a place entirely new--a dark wooded area with no discernible path. It was quiet. Too quiet. Shiroe pushed his eyeglasses up and took another step forward.

"Excuse me." The voice from behind startled Shiroe, and he turned around. A silver-haired traveler.

Seems safe, Shiroe thought, then thought again. Why would I think that? Where's the danger? There must be danger if my heart is beating like this... Stay calm. Observe.

Silver hair, a cool demeanor, jacket draped over shoulders, long fingers holding a strange cigarette...

"Excuse me," the silver-haired man repeated. "Are you traveling to the village ahead? There used to be a path, but the woods have grown over it it seems..."

Shiroe had followed. He'd intended to observe the landscape, landmarks, the position of the sun and moon, and later, the stars. This should be mapped. This should be shared. But instead he'd found himself observing long legs, a strong back, hair ruffled along a collar. And found himself sharing a room, in a small village, with this quiet stranger who was now a quiet friend.

Today is a morning like every other morning has been for the past month. Except today is the day Ginko will leave. The thought of that is not so comfortable. There it is again. That restlessness. That tension. Shiroe leans forward, pushes up his glasses. "Gin, I don't want you to go. I want..."

Ginko leans forward too. He lifts his hand, removes Shiroe's glasses. Lifts his hand again, runs it along Shiroe's jaw, and pulls it close. Places his mouth over Shiroe's mouth. Exhales lightly; mushi-smoke sliding along tongue and teeth is inhaled and absorbed.

"That will keep you safe for a little while, once I'm gone, but you should leave soon too," Ginko says. He stands. He puts on his jacket, straps on his traveling case, walks out the door.

"Gin, I don't want you to go. I want..." Now Shiroe knows. Knows what that restlessness, that tension is. "I want...you. I want...love."

But Ginko has gone. Shiroe slides back, sits in the corner, reaches for his glasses, puts them back down, and sobs.

Ginko, Ginko has won...Shiroe's love.
