My two cents worth. Dislike app. I had to read this forum before I understood how to access the menu. And even then it took the third post saying to press the play/pause button before I understood.

Major dislikes include not being able to select different episodes from the queue
And no "start episode from the beginning" for previously watched episodes once you find them.

And a note - version one roku remote does NOT have a star button. Good thing I have roku remote app loaded on my phone or I would be even more upset.

I like the look. It looks like the PS3 app. The only thing I don't love about it is that there is no more "genre" breakouts. If that were to be put back it, I would love it.

I actually find this update to be rather obnoxious, sorry, I wish there were an option to switch back to the old interface because this one is extremely less convenient and user-friendly.

I don't understand why the changes were necessary, the interface was fast, efficient and easy to navigate, now it's a living nightmare.

The queue used to allow you to scroll in both directions, now it's blocked, so if you have over 100 series in your queue, it will take you forever to reach the shows at the bottom of your list.
Why does it force you to continue or watch the next episode?
That is why the history option exists, the queue should only be for locating the shows that you have added to your watch list, and it's destination shouldn't be any different from the 'popular', 'recently added' or 'alphabetical order' options.
I haven't watched the majority of shows in my queue, so I recognize most of them by their poster image and not the title, please get rid of the thumbnails and go back to the picture, the thumbnails should only be used for history.

The menu serves no logical purpose, the previous interface had everything straightforward:
To change categories, press up or down; to change series, press left or right; press select to select.
Now to navigate to your series of choice, your expected to:
Press play (1), press right (2), press select (3), press down a number of times (4-?), press right until you find your series (5-??), and finally press select once more (6-???).
And why use the play button at all, when the Roku remote comes with an options button, which exists for such a purpose?
The interface would be far more efficient, faster to navigate and significantly more user friendly if the design were more like this:



Please understand that I am not trying to sound negative, I appreciate that the staff have been working hard on this, and would much rather read a positive response, so let me be clear that the purpose of my post is for constructive criticism only, and not to ridicule their work.
I do think that the design looks nice, and understand why changes might be applied, but the majority of changes that were made are not for the best interests of the app, the users and Crunchyroll.

This new Roku interface is a poor step backwards.

It is like it was designed for a phone ...
but this is Roku specific, so why the big clunky interface that you KNOW is going to be on an HD TV?.

-- we've lost the thumbnails when skipping backwards and forwards.
-- No more intermediate menu to choose or replay episodes.
(AND the Roku is mixed up and keeps playing +1 episode later of where I left off earlier).
-- No more nicely categorized groups,
-- and no more seeing a few ahead and behind each group when selecting and recalling shows.
Just one giant, hard to scroll list.
-- less control over what I watch, and less ability to choose what I watch.

This is no improvement at all!

Does CR need focus groups to assess changes?
Is there any way to reload the old "worked just fine" app??

I agree.
This has changed my thinking about CR on the Roku.
It "doesn't work anymore."

We people complaining about the old interface?
Loss of functionality isn't better.

I like the old lay out better. I hope I can revert to the old app. I dont like not being able to see as many options on the screen. And Ive gotten used to seeing the cover art not the episode screen shot.

I think if there is this much of an issue with so many users, something went wrong somewhere while updating the app.

Anyway, I'm a patient person so I'll stick around to see what happens. I just hope ya'll get this figured out sooner rather than later.

ok. Now that I have been using the new app I absolutely hate it. If they dont un-update it soon I will cancel and just suffer watching my anime online for free instead of on the tv.

Please un-do the update!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just got the updated app on my roku. I initially liked it so much it prompted me to come comment. Initially, I really liked it.

However - I can't change episodes from my queue. What the heck ?? Reading the comment above - I need to go into the anime section, or search, to change episodes???

The volume on the couple of commercials I watched was about 30% the volume of the normal shows. While that' s not a big deal really - it's not consistent, and it was consistent before.

So - did you guys just decide to nerf the queue? We should have the same access to episodes and "show information" to items in our queue that we do from the "anime" or "drama" menus.

I really like the new setup, but please fix the queue.

edit: there's no more frame by frame? hmm. Also - when I'm in the queue, I can't skip to next episode? Geez, you really broke / limited the queue. And you made it difficult to find specific parts in your show. Finally, using the "play" button to go back to the main screen is counter-intuitive. The 'back' button should go to the main menu, not the play button. Again, I really like the new look, but with the new look you REDUCED functionality. Please bring back the functionality you took away. The beautiful new look is not worth a tool that does less..

edit2 - from a couple posts down: "SAME PROBLEM I HAVE TO EXIT AND THEN RELOAD FROM THE START IN ORDER TO GET TO THE NEXT EPISODE! " - I have the same issues. After watching RWBY from my queue, it wouldn't load the next episode. I had to exit and relaunch crunchyroll to get it to load the next episode.
- just double checked after watching another episode of RWBY from my queue. it won't go to the next episode. I tried going to the 'anime' screen, the back to my queue - it didn't work. I had to exit app entirely, then reopen, and now it's on the next episode. Queue is almost entirely broken and useless. :(.

Spent the last 90 minutes trying to get the new app to let me watch an episode that I had only seen the first five minutes of yesterday. After a dozen times of sitting through six ads and then having the CR app show the closing screen of the episode and end, I've given up. I tried rebooting the Roku and every other suggestion here to no avail. I really can't understand why anything so counterintuitive would make it past a QC team.

I'm really sad.

I have been watching CR on my roku2 for a looooong time now and I was very happy with everything. This site is what got me in to anime in the first place. I watched on my pc forever, then I discovered i could watch on roku. I liked how CR worked on the roku, how it looked, its accessibility, everything was fine! This update killed it for me. I hate it. I hate it so much that I found myself not enjoying watching my favorite shows on it anymore. I hate it so much that I had to come here to voice my hate for this "update", and I never post on forums.
You broke browsing, your broke ff and rw, and who needs to watch 3 commercials over and over again?? I was happy to watch the one, but now i just sit there waiting for the dreaded white dot on the progress bar. you broke my heart CR

The sad thing is, prior to this update I was considering paying for the premium membership as I have had so many hours of enjoyment here. I'm glad I didn't now, and unless it goes back to how it was or similar functionality I will be using alternative viewing methods. So sad, so sad...

The picture quality has degraded since the new UI went live. I now have static lines that show up across my screen a few minutes after an episode has started. Has anyone else had this problem? I also echo the above comments and agree that this update was not in the right direction. I hope CR provides a quick fix soon.

Not to beat an already pretty dead horse but...ya. Not being able to choose episodes from your queue is a BIG problem. Going through that menu is the most convoluted and needless thing ever. Plus my queue keeps getting stuck, saying I was still on the episode I'd just finished and not moving forward.
This update is a mess....but I have to wonder if they're actually paying attention to what people are saying.
