I emailed them the same message. This interface is cumbersome. It removes the genres. I only watch Japanese drama, now i have to scroll thru Korean Drama etc. will cancel the service if they don't fix this interface. I use a Roku 3 and have already had HD. The new HD looks like a lower quality than I had yesterday.

Ugh..just tried it out some more.

This is enough to get people to cancel their premium accounts.

I have Roku 3 and the picture seems worse than before.

The Queue is almost pointless now .

The navigation is the weirdest thing I have ever seen. Who in the fuck thought that pushing the play button to get the menu was a good idea? Fire that person immediately!!

Long story short CR is that if this isn't cleaned up DRASTICALLY or the old app put back in place then I am going to have to cancel my premium account. Which I don't want to have to do but these ridiculous "updates" are a deal breaker for me.

The encodes for the old app topped out at 480p. The Roku scales up whatever it receives to the output resolution you have set, but that doesn't make the original content HD any more than an upconverting DVD player does.

I just used it today and it works wonderfully. Very smooth and professional. I do hope you add the ability to search shows by genre, soon.

It is true that the update is an overall downgrade. The UI is clunky and counterintuitive, and there are some very basic functions missing (the lack of being able to access any individual episode from a title within the queue and a restart button is what opened it up for dissection and nitpicking).

But most of you are whiny bitches that need to calm down. Give CR a reasonable amount of time to fix the issues before bailing. A mass exodus of paying customers can only hurt the product more, and I love CR too much to want to see that happen. So chill the f**k out.

And CR, your lack of communication in regards to solutions and progress is disappointing and part of the problem.

THIS. I posted in another thread, but I’ll join the chorus here as well. The new UI sucks. Please, please bring back the old app’s functionality.

I didn’t even realize the genres were gone until coming here to the forums. Seriously? Whose bright idea was THAT!?

I honestly preferred the old app. Sure, it wasn't perfect, but it was good enough for me. Some aspects of the new version just don't make sense. Such as having to search the anime to access all the episodes and having to press the button multiple times instead of just once to fast forward or backward.

I don't really care about HD either, as long as it's watchable it's fine with me.

Ok , I just updated my 2 Rokus & tested them . Yes , the interface is exactly like the interface on my Samsung BD-F5900 Blu-ray player . And yes , the queue interface now is different than original . But.... it appears to me that they are trying to have all the players match . If I want to go back to an old episode on the Blu-ray I have to go back thru the Anime section to get there . I don't think they will change it just for one player (Roku) and not the others . The Roku was waaayy behind on upgrades compared to other products . I don't like it either but I got used to it . Forgot to mention , the Rokus below the new 3 (dual-core) are only a single core that slows load times . YouTube loads really slow...

I am hearing that this is the PS3 app hacked to run on the Roku. I don't have a PS3 anymore so don't know if it looks the same. Are the features there and just not mapped to controls on the Roku remote? I remember their being more buttons on the PS3 remote. What seems to be missing is a second set of direction buttons. (The four arrows) There seems to be things on the screen you can't get to to use.

I find the idea that "we must upgrade because upgrades are good" implies some fresh aspect or need, and this concept is in several postings here.

Image if your DVD or Blu-Ray player suddenly changed it's interface to match some other device? You'd be pissed off and think it was nuts -- unless it did all things far better, was easy to learn, etc. (which this doesn't).

The old Roku app worked BETTER than the others, that is why I preferred it to other devices.

Now we have a back button that doesn't work, and the instant replay button has started skipping forward or backwards randomly. It never did this before. See the many posts for many other now dead features.

CR made a huge mistake. Instead of matching other lousy interfaces, why not make other devices work [when possible] like the very easy and functional previous Roku interface?

This should have been the gold standard.
Instead they dumped it.

I'm baffled a few (very few) posters who say they like it because it is how their play station or <other device> is setup.
Geez, if I wanted to watch on a play station, I'd get one of those!

I've been a happy Roku/CR watcher for some time, but this blows.
The implication is we just have to live with it, as CR is Big Brother.
Uh no, that isn't right.

WTF? I already don't like the new interface as it is ridiculous (worthy of ridicule) due to it's unnecessarily unintuitive controls. Somebody with severe cognitive dysfunction must have come up with this.
What's worse is that after I went through the idiotic process of linking my account to my Roku (AGAIN) The system will not actually recognize my account as being linked. And so even though I am a Premium member it won't let me watch without interruptions for commercials!
I have tried to link my account (yet again) but now the system responds with "Invalid registration code.." and the system refuses to give me a new code!!

This is NOT what I am paying for. Crunchy roll had better fix this soon. I don't see much reason to keep paying them so that I can watch commercial interruptions.

I finally got hit last night with the new update, and it sucks!

Why would they intentionally screw something up just so it looks flashy? the way it's setup you cannot use the queue system effectively at all, it locks you into the current episode of a show even if you already watched it and you cannot navigate from it! The fast forward and reverse don't work very well as the play feature itself is buggy as hell with lots of lag.


What on earth are you guys actually thinking? Before you release something that isn't optional you need to make sure it's 100% functional!! What do we really care how it looks, just make it work the way it's expected to!

The CR app used to be great, the options we had were great and my most watched app on my Roku. Now, I do not see myself using it at all. What was an enjoyable watching experiences, is now much more difficult and tedious. As a paying customer, I am surprised we've yet to hear anything from the CR team. This new app looks more like a beta test and is horrible. All these changes are not worth the HD. From what I see, I am not the only one who lists cons to no pros. An option to switch back to the old app would be appreciated, otherwise I do not know if I will continue paying for my account.
