Been almost 2 weeks since i canceled my auto renew, coming up on end of premium time, and still getting lockups after 10-20 seconds of video. Such a shame, as i really liked the streaming service when it worked. Oh well, got my amazon prime and netflix still. They know how to provide a service.

The Can't play video is a bug. The DDoS left crunchyroll on Roku in a state it cannot get it self out of. You need to play past the bad buffered part on another device and then Roku will be OK again.

This can be for every part of every episode you touched on Roku during the DDoS attack.

The app needs to be fixed to clear the bad cached data on that error to self recover, are you reading this crunchyroll? Until you fix this even a short DDoS will never stop effecting your customers that used Roku during it until this is fixed.

Hmmm, I used to use the NowTV Roku box (The cheapest, cutdown version there is) and had no end of trouble, particularly when the internet to our house was being hammered. Since buying the Roku 3 it's been plain sailing. Buffers correctly and steps the quality up and down depending on the network traffic, only very rarely pauses to buffer when things get bad and quickly picks up again. If we had a decent internet connection all would be perfect...

Haha, I was just here to see that if I found it in my heart to possibly re-subscribe, if there was a way to force premium-membership videos on Roku to play low quality. My internet is hella slow. Can't even stream videos on the site at home w/o stopping 10 times.

By the way, it was non-stop Lexus ads on the free version. The same 2, over and over. I was like, "If I could buy a hybrid luxury car, do you think I'd be watching Fist of the North Star for free on Crunchyroll's stupid Roku app?"

I cancelled my premium subscription too a while back. Also just logging on to check if the app will be updated.

I have a seen a lot of those Lexus commercials, sometimes its the same commercial three times over. Have you noticed in the commercial the guy just looks really pissed and upset. Is he made that is driving a Lexus? Kinda creepy and I don't know why that would sell a car.

Good to see that this company has not gotten it's act together and just refuses to help paying consumer and not even bother trying to fix the issues that have been breaking the Roku app for some time now. At this point I do not think this company cares what so ever about its customers and only cares that they have your money. This place is just a joke now. What a sad place Crunchyroll is now. Maybe Funimation will do me better. I hear they have cheaper subscriptions a working Roku app more anime now and much better customer service! I honestly have no need to be here anymore now. There is maybe 2 shows I watch on here and I used to watch only on my Roku but with CR refusing to work properly and a broken app I just wont bother with it anymore. No reason to pay for CR anymore at this point.

Roku App Review: Funimation vs. Crunchyroll

Haven't really had a problem with Funimation's Roku app. You do have to subscribe to watch more than 4 episodes of anything on it, but it gives you a choice for SD or HD streaming. They seem to be working on a queue function, and there's no history, but it will ask if you want to resume an episode if you were partway through it. They don't have autoplay, but I like that.

Selection is not as nearly as big, but it has a lot of dubs if you'd rather watch them. Most Funimation titles are not on CR, and only show up intermittently on Netflix. Also, not everything available for streaming on their website is on the app. For example, Fist of the North Star is on their site but not streaming. That's a really old and subbed-only show, so probably not much demand there. Same with the first Pretty Cure series. No one has released PreCure on DVD in America. Oddly, I don't think Toriko is on there, even though it's ongoing and they're releasing and dubbing it. There are a few live action movies, which I think are all rated R and are usually period dramas with ninjas or samurai in them.

They do have Dragon Ball, DBZ, and several others of that series (so there is some kid-friendly anime, and it's dubbed in case the young 'uns can't read subs that quickly yet). Another big one they have is Fairy Tale, dubbed and subbed. And One Piece is there too. Whether those two are totally up to date, I do not know because I haven't watched them.

If you like Naruto, Sailor Moon, or anything Sentai Filmworks or Aniplex of America licenses, you're out of luck.

So overall, I'd say Funimation's Roku app is easier to use than CR's currently is, but not as good as CR's used to be. If you like dubs, definitely check them out (I don't feel strongly either way, so I'm speaking impartially here). Selection was sufficiently different so I used to subscribe to both.

I'm sure they made it better, but Funimation's app used to be really slow and I also got tired of having to re-enter my password at least once a week

A new build was released today. I like the new interface more than the last one and it seems a bit more responsive too.

Hey, cool. UP and back-arrow work now to get the menu, too. Cute icons instead of bars.

Starting up. getting in and out of the app itself seems a little zippier.

Fast Forward and Rewind during playing seem to move a discrete distance instead of bouncing around

Search still defaults to anime until you go in, but then arrows switch between drama and anime. Search box still does not accespt keyboard input from apps like remoku, so you still have to navigate the alphabet with arrows, and you still have to put at least one character in the search box to search by genre.

Stripe navigation hasn't changed.

Navigation graphics are better, more clear/noticeable though.

Black box placeholders still display the wrong time for the next episode. Shirobako 19 says "3 hours from now" when it is really 11+ hours yet.

Autoplay still only gives you about 3 seconds to exit, but it does show the correct next episode name now.

I'm having trouble with this new one. Keep getting a "Playback Interrupted" error message on my TV after the video plays for a few minutes. The message says "Sorry, the app can't continue playing your video because of an unexpected error. Please check your connection." I'm using an old Roku box but other sites like Netflix and Hulu works as usual.

I wonder how long it'll take to fix this problem?

I guess I don't need to put up my "It has been 6 months since the last software change!" post. I look forward to trying out the latest revision.

I'm surprised it's taken you so long to start having it; the majority of us have been having it the whole time. So I guess at least you had some time of decent playback, yay? Sigh. In other news, CR tried to bill me ten days early today. Apparently they decided I'd be too stoked about their not very helpful new interface to care, I guess? Because seriously, unless they fix browsing by genre, it isn't fixed.

Probably because it might generate questions from people that don't even know what a Roku is, and the URL (http://www.crunchyroll.com/activate) isn't at all difficult to remember for a few seconds (and is presented on the screen of the Roku when you go to link an account).

Unless you put the tab (or link) in a very prominent position, CR would then have to give directions on where to find it on the website. (It also would probably be "Link device" instead, as I believe it is used for devices other than just the Roku).

If the reason you want such a tab is because you are always activating on a phone or other device that is a pain to type on, there is a way to get there by clicking on links:

1. Click on "Settings" from your profile menu (the "head and shoulders" icon).

2. Click on "My Devices" under account settings.

3. That screen will have "Do you need to activate a device? Click here."

If you have to activate that often (which shouldn't be the case), you might want to bookmark the "activate" page in whatever browser you are using.

I don't want to cancel my CR premium membership, but I'm going to if they don't address or communicate with us about what's going on with the Roku app. Come ON, guys. Is it SO hard to be professional and communicate with your customers? Just tell us that you're working on it, that the guy doing the credits has been sacked, that someone's sister was bit by a m00se, SOMETHING. Radio silence is a deathknell of poor customer service and public relations incompetence. You're losing money. At least stick a finger in the hole in the dam for a second.
