Hey guys, lugiamania here with some great news for our Roku users! Today, we are happy to announce a brand new update to the Crunchyroll Roku app! Not only can you watch for free on your big screen, but HD has finally come to Roku! We have also improved the video streaming experience, which is even smoother now.

For the ultimate viewing experience, upgrade to Premium to watch your favorite anime simulcast in HD, and ad-free!

We hope you guys enjoy your new and updated Roku viewing experience, and let us know what you're watching!

If you are not seeing the update immediately (it can take 24-48 hours), you can refresh the app via a manual update. Go to your Roku Home Screen > Select: Settings > Select: System Update > Select: Check Now -- then your New Crunchyroll App should download and be all ready for you!

question please. How do i watch anime on my down stairs tv? where the app on the ps3?

Oh how the Roku app has fallen.

Cheers for HD quality though in my opinion it was not needed anyway.

Cheers for a decent responsive app.

Jeers for not being able to navigate series episodes. Boo-Hiss

Jeers for not being able to play the next show in the series from the queue.

Jeers for the UI to be completely impossible to understand how to do things (thank goodness for CR forum users who pound buttons on the remote until something happens).

Jeers for taking this long to get the Roku app updated yet creating a user experience that is so 2005.

One last note, ever thought of creating a private Roku channel for Premium user to help test the the app BEFORE you release it to the general public? This could have been a great way to get usability feedback from your paying users. But I guess that is too much to consider.

CR, are you forcing us Roku users to buy a Chromcast? This update is really bad.

Time to retire the Roku app until CR gets their act together on app creation.

I am in my first 5 minutes of the new Roku interface, and it is great! Things are loading faster for me and the organization seems well thought out.

I will have to agree with everyone else here. I have a Roku Streaming Stick, and I can't get anything to play now whereas I could play things just fine before the update. I just get, "couldn't play video". Also, the lag is pretty annoying. Which is a shame because Roku was the best way to watch CR without having to buy a gaming console and the Chromecast feature on Android almost never worked.

I just don't want to have to go back using my laptop with HDMI.

What the heck is going on with this update's navigation?
Until CR fixes it, I'll just connect my laptop to the TV.

I really dislike the new version of the app, unable to select a specific episode for series in My Queue unless I manually locate it under the Anime section. Also, I cannot play from beginning after choosing the episode and have to hit rewind. The layout looks fine, but please bring back the old options.

My initial experience with the new app (on a Roku 2 XS):

1) Start up Naruto Shippuden 371 to test whether there is still a pre-episode menu
2) Find out there isn't.
3) Back out of episode.
3.5) Have other stuff to do, exit app
4) Come back later to actually try watching the episode.
5) Press << button to rewind the couple of seconds that had already been watched since I can't manually select "start episode from beginning" anymore.
6) THIS CAUSED THE EPISODE TO SKIP TO THE VERY END FOR SOME REASON
7) Queue has now moved to 372.
8) Go to History
9) Select 371 from history to try to watch it that way.
10) Episode is still stuck at the very end (i.e it opens up at like 23:05) for some reason, making it impossible to watch despite multiple attempts (and having to watch like 9 ads in a row with each attempt).

At that point I said "screw this" and went to actually watch the episode on my Kindle Fire. The old Roku app also had the issue of episodes getting stuck a couple of seconds before the end after watching them, but at least with that I had the option to manually restart them from the beginning if I needed to.

Looks pretty but the experience is just awful, is there a way I can go back? This is reminding me of work where I have to contend with a vendors online web application that the developers only focus on looking good rather then being useful or stable. New updates that break more than they fix, but at least it gets done with style I suppose. Frankly I had 0 problems with the old version, other than looking dated it was simple to use.

I hope an update is in the works to add the lack of functionality that others have mentioned. Bi just watched an episode from my queue and it did not update to get the next episode queued up, so I have to search for the next episode outside the queue. I could go on but I'm going this out on my phone.

Please give the old app back. Not being able to reliably fast forward, cant easily watch old episodes. To be honest great try but return to the drawing board, or look at Netflix or Hulu for atleast a workable interface.

It never updated the queue before, but because you had immediate access to the next episode from the series episode queue, it didn't matter much.

If there is an added queue of most recent episodes (at the time of starting the channel), that's fine, but there should also be a list of the series in our queue.

I can see why Roku was dragging their heels on this HD version, since its a big loss in user interface functionality, even if the video player has more capabilities.

I really don't care for navigation, as well as the fast forwarding with the new update. But the quality is great. HD looks great.

Looks pretty, but I find it hard to use. I really don't like how I didn't have a choice in the upgrade. That's probably more on the roku side. But yeah, I going to have review my options here.

I have to agree with the many other posters about the changes. My favorite feature was being able to fast forward or rewind and seeing the thumbnails - it's actually the top reason why I preferred watching Crunchyroll on my Roku 3 over my Apple TV. All you guys really had to do for an update was give us the HD, that's it.

I'm sure this is wonderful app and I will enjoy using it and watching my anime in HD. But why do I have to reactivate my ROKU? This should be seamless, but it isn't.

[Edit #1] Okay, it took me several minutes to figure out I had to use 'pause' button to access the menu. But once I accessed the settings, linked my Roku and got back to my homepage my queue was there. I flipped thru the queue to find Bleach, first episode up was #284 that I had watched last night. I clicked play and yes, it was at the end of the episode, but I held down the rewind and it did rewind to the start. I tried the 7-second rewind and it seems to work properly. I put the show on pause and pushed the fast forward button and it seems to jump forward a few frames or a few seconds at a time. Same for the rewind. This is in line with how a DVD player does it's fast forward, rewind and pause functions. I don't really have a problem with it. If you hold down the fast forward or rewind button the speed seems to increase. That's as far as I've gotten so far. I'll post other observations later if I run into problems.
