I see no need for censoring this anime. It's not my cup of tea but I don't see "naughty bits" from it.

Like with many countries that aren't like the United States, Japan has a different meaning of "mature" content.

Japan, along with most of the world, does not shame sexual content as much as countries like the United States. That is why you can see penises and little boys talking about boobs and flipping up skirts in Japanese children's anime, something you never see in an American children's show (intentionally that is). There are more countries that are even less strict about sexual content. Take France for instance that has nudity in commercials.

Basically, in the United States, our children are introduced at a young age to a significant amount of death, blood, and violence through media, yet when there is a nip-slip on live TV, everyone wants to start suing the network stations. People grow up in the US learning to accept violence as a normal part of our lives and to shame the human body so that a parent does not have to go through the awkward "birds and the bees" talk (which is why sex education in US schools is such a joke).

So this differing view on what is considered "mature" may explain why shows like Terraformars have the violent scenes heavily censored, yet other shows like B gata H Kei use very little censorship to cover up the "naughty" bits and have no qualms talking explicitly about an underage girl's dream to have sex with 100 boys before she graduates from high school.

Then what about Akame Ga kill? Why is that not censored as well? If you seen the most recent episode you know there was a decapitated head on a pike.

I thought that was why it was re-entered on Saturday. (I only had time to watch my Apple TV, so I didn't see this post) But, When I checked episode 2, it was still censored. I didn't bother watching the other episodes. It's not as if I need to see blood and gore. It's only that having half the screen go black is more disturbing than what was probably going on.

It still seems like anime blood and gore from anamorphic cockroaches should be considered just as disturbing. But, those scenes were never censored, which made the ones that were even more glaring.

Akame ga Kill is censored in Japan on regular TV broadcast. Crunchyroll was just able to strike a deal to get the uncensored version for simulcast.

The censored version of Akame ga Kill is just as bad as Terraformars. Look at this comparison between the censored and uncensored version of an earlier episode. The left image is the censored broadcast version on MX, and the right is the simulcast version that Nico Nico and Crunchyroll simulcasted.

It is the same with Parasyte. Crunchyroll was able to obtain the uncensored version for simulcast, but that does not mean there is not a censored version airing in Japan.

I threw up a little realizing that people had to actually put up with the censor version of akame ga kill.

It was a special promotion by the publisher. Animax UK also had it (despite not having any new simulcasts this season), and Nico Nico had it even earlier.

To be honest, despite the tame friendly story when they're not fighting, AGK is rather extreme in the graphical content. I recommended it to the more seinen viewers in my anime club with the advisement about graphic violence. Apparently I'm an odd ball in the USA; I don't mind if my kids see a naked body (full sexual conduct I'm a bit leery about), but I would rather they NOT see the extreme violence that we Americans have seemed to become so accustomed to seeing on tv.

As to the OT, dammit! I missed the uncensored time!

You don't have to worry much about missing the uncensored time. It'll be in full soon.

For anyone complaining about the violence aspect it appears you missed some classic anime. Elfin Lied should be known... Decapitated secretary anyone?

I've got some belated bad news for you CR reps that decided this was a good license edited. It's out unedited and available on torrents. Time for you to truly decide whether or not it's worth your money to pony up for heavily edited shows or not. In this case my vote is not.

Read page 1 before you type that out Phillangees.

UPDATE A HUGE thank you to everyone who showed up to our screening at NYCC, and also Warner Japan for allowing us to present this exciting piece of news: Crunchyroll WILL be getting the uncensored version of TERRAFORMARS!

That's right! Warner Japan has heard and considered everyone's comments, and will be providing us with the uncensored version of TERRAFORMARS sometime in the future. We don't have the exact details yet, but we are all super excited for this update and hope that everyone will stay tuned for more details when we know.

Dear Crunchyroll. Is there any way that you can indicate whether or not any given new episode is censored?

Episode 6 is about to drop in 10 hours, and I don't know if I should watch it or not.

As many have complained, the censorship in this series greatly detracts from its impact. In episodes 1-3 there were powerful moments which were greatly diminished by large black spots. or rectangles. By contrast episodes 4-5 had minimal or zero censorship and I was able to enjoy them greatly.

If episode 6 will have the same treatment then I don't want to watch it yet; I'd rather experience the plot with the full visceral reaction the creator had intended.

Can you put a "(Censored)" or "(Uncensored)" in the episode title, from now on?

Thank you.

I expect you'll see an announcement here when they finally have the uncensored episodes.

The good news is that indications are the publisher hasn't been as aggressive with censoring of the later episodes, but until you see an announcement from CR, you should assume the episodes are still censored.

I was gonna argue this and whatnot but ya know arguing on the internet and all that. The fact that *this* time Warner Japan responded favorably is truly astonishing and extremely rare. I can only imagine that the uproar must have been huge and for good reason. Oddly even though it hasn't been indicated either they've toned the censoring way way down, or it's ok to show humanoid insects get mulched since they only kinda look like people.

Still this isn't the first show that CR has put up that was censored this badly it's just the first show that a *lot* of people were looking forward to. Censorship sucks and the prior shows still cost them money to license to bring to the states (or they've got some really weird business model going on). Those shows that came on prior while being vapid fan service still had folks who *would* have watched them but saw the level of censorship and went searching for other sources. If it's going to be censored that much don't bother licensing it.
