Exactly how deep? Deep as in "deep enough for your satisfaction"?

As far as I'm concerned, an "achievement criteria" is incoherent unless the creators actually stated exactly what they were trying to do. In that light, you're just inserting your own vague requirement.

No, what I'm doing is judging the story by it's own merit. If a show is trying to tell me a story and fails to build a proper world, develop their characters, has horrible pacing, I'm going to judge it as such.

In other words, it doesn't entertain you.

It entertains me despite the characters, the pace and what have you.

To each their own.

I don't hate SAO, but it's... Well... Painfully predictable. In the comment section on the episodes there are several "THAT WAS THE BIGGEST CLIFFHANGER EVER!!111!" and the like. It's not really a cliffhanger when you can predict what that is going to happen. One of the best words to describe SAO is: Cliche~
No offense

The reason to why i'm still watching SAO is ofc: The Setting

I actually liked the time skips. It did catch me off guard, but it felt right after watching the rest of the first half of S1. I know from my own MMO experience that watching people get through dungeon after dungeon and fetching items can get boring. Here, it kind of applies here as well. I wouldn't want to watch Kirito and friends go through 100 floors of a dungeon, or see Lisbeth/Silica get more items for their shop/pet. Sure, first arc was my favorite so far, but I wouldn't want to watch more boss battles that are generally the same. Person parries, switch, person 2 attacks, repeat. Insert Kirito action here and ded boss.

Regardless, It could've have more potential, but overall, I'm happy with SAO. Imma wait a bit though before seeing the rest of S2 as I got quite a bit of anime to catch up from this season and the last 3.

This pretty much happens with any anime with a big fan base. People tend to get upset when a show they think is inferior to one of their favorites gets all the hype. Recently it's Sword Art Online and Attack on Titan. Previously it was Naruto and Bleach then DBZ before that.

It was good until:
ALO:
-fairies
-much incest
-much pedophilia
-attempted rape of a once important and competent character

GGO:
-Asuna and Sinon are now fanservice objects instead of awesome characters.
-freaking harem
-Kiriro getting a bit cozy with Sinon despite already being with Asuna. And absolutely nothing is done to clear this issue even though it would've been simple to fix.
-MORE attempted rape.

Basically it went off the deep end and into creeper territory. I keep watching in hopes of the series eventually redeeming itself. But so far...eh.

From what I heard, after the Caliber side story ends, once Mother Rosario arc starts, it'll get a lot better since Kirito doesn't make much of an appearing so no romance and harem of that type.

Dear Lord, I hope you're right lol. It's not like it's a completely horrible series. It had lots of potential and started making crappy choices with it.

There is no development going on with Kirito. He is as plain as you can get. And he's saving lives through video games. Wooooow. Sounds like people claiming they can saves lives by playing COD.

I feel his presence hurts the supporting characters from developing further. Plus it really ended after the 1st arc of the 1st season. From what I hear going on with the second season, I'm glad I didn't waste my time watching it.

This is my opinion about it and don't feel like debating about it. Respect mine as I will respect yours.

Personally I liked the Kirito/Asuna romance. Don't know why but it really drew me in for some reason. Then they went into the ALO story arc where Asuna went from competent fighter to damsel in distress.

Re: Asuna suddenly being a damsel in distress in the second half of SAO, that's really due to what Sugou did, not anything that was "wrong" with Asuna. Sugou actually altered her settings and abilities using admin login; remember when she tried to see that passcode for the cage and her vision just around the keypad blurred?

If she hadn't had her capabilities locked down she'd have easily gotten herself free, no need to wait around. But including that as a reason for SAO being worse the second half of season one than the first half has always struck me as being rather similar to blaming the victim of a crime for being the victim of a crime.

While what you say is true, at the end of the day this is a work of fiction where everything that happens is dictated by the author of the story. I mean, Asuna managed to escape her prison once, so why didn't they have her make her way down the world tree, meet up with Kirito, and then they take on Sugou together? I would much rather have seen that than her having a near tentacle experience and being thrown back in the cage.

Episodes 1-like 15 were great. Nostalgia levels were through the roof for me. Reminded me of the days when I play WoW. SAO reminded me of a raid.

ALO- Noooope! didn't care for it.

GGO- Liked it! Decent action. Couldn't wait to see it the next week.

The past 2-3 weeks- Haven't really cared for it.

IMO

kirito is a complete representation of the worst members of the gamergate community: he found strength and identity in games, and completely subjugates every woman around him!

every female character on the show gives up any agency to him the second he becomes part of their lives. sinon is an awesome sniper that commands respect in the game, and as soon as she meets kirito she's completely shook and can't handle anything on her own. they took that character and flushed it down the toilet.
kirito is also boring as hell and doesn't actually develop in any interesting or meaningful outside of getting stronger, marrying asuna, and this fear of laughing coffin and guilt of killing (which doesn't ACTUALLY affect him in any way, he still fights and wins and survives with no extra effort).

so....whatever. this show is just terribly written!
