Plot armor
Kirito is OP
ALO
Incest (as stated by another post)
Plot holes
Abandoning the first half of the season, then a make-shift second half.

I don't really dislike the anime, I just don't enjoy it. I can't help but see plot holes here, the anime has contradicted itself several times and I just don't feel the anime has any direction to it beyond (let's make more episodes for more money).

In all honesty tho I would have respected the anime a lot more if it wasn't for the ALO part.

But I try not to critizie it many people in the group really like it and I don't like to say I don't like it when people say its thier fav and ask me what I think of it.

Why do people hate SAO?

Because it set a really high bar in the first 2-3 eps and then... completely, utterly, failed afterward. It aspired to greatness, climbed to the top and then tripped, fell, hit its head and tumbled all the way down to bland mediocrity in less than ten episodes.

SAO is not bad at all, I actually enjoy the series. It is way overhyped, putting it with Attack on Titan.

Because people expect it to be a faultless, perfect anime, despite the fact that no other anime is held up to the same ridiculous level of scrutiny.

Anything that is popular is bound to be hated on the internet.
People don't actually hate it, they justhave nothing better to do than using "overrated" in every single context they ever comment on when regarding some show they don't like.

Personally I think Sword Art Online is boring, but I don't feel any need to hate it or try to convince others to think the same way about it.

There are plot holes which sort of bugs me sometime then other than that, i guess it's just people's preference.

Irregular at highschool have similar element to SAO like in the plot armor, overpowered protag, incest but i wonder why those same haters wasn't burning tatsuya through.

Dues ex machina's everywhere, plot holes like swiss cheese, really poor writing. poor characterization. ALO arc was stupid.

All in all

Log Horizon is better.

i loved SAO. still got log horizon on my hit list.

what i loved about SAO was it kept me guessing. i loved the ALO arc, cus it was unexpected. i figured ep 26 would be the happy ending where they get out. the ALO was great becuase it was unexpected.

the plot holes seem minor to me.

the incest does not really bother me much, there not ever brother/sister (am i remembering right?)

but yeah, it was flawed. asuna started out as a badass, then...was not.

Because Kirito is so OP. I don't really care; I still watch it. I can understand why people hate it, though.

I didn't hate SAO. The only thing is that I couldn't get into the series.

People have their own reasons for why they dislike/hate something. Don't always assume its only because its popular even though that can be the cause.

I've heard "plot holes" thrown around a lot, but nobody has said them as far as I've seen. I'm sure they're there, but what are they?

Probably because the first half of the season had a real cool concept with the trapped in a new MMO and dying in game results with you dying in real life, I preferred it to the second half of season 1 and personally I hate ALO. However I still really do enjoy SAO, just not as much as I did.

One major point is that it's popular and that everything popular will be hated in greater amounts.

The other major point is that it's overrated. Sword Art Online is my favourite anime but even I can admit that it's probably not the best anime. It does have it's flaws but because I practically lived SAO at the time so I looked past them and enjoyed the show more than any other. SAO has lots more flaws than other really popular series. I have to admit that ALO was a huge drop in quality (in terms of story) compared to the first half and people don't seem to have taken too kindly to it. At the same time; the first half is the best thing I've ever seen. There's also other problems like Asuna's drop in power level and Kirito being OP - but I didn't mind all that because I was living it on Runescape.

Admittedly I have also not enjoyed really popular anime that the majority love and think of the best anime. I disliked fate/zero due to it's mediocre ending and the fact that I stupidly watched fate/stay night first - but I still admit it's quality. I also disliked attack on titan because of that female titan arc making it feel like a chore to watch - but it's still overall quality. These things happen but everybody interprets them differently. People do the opposite for SAO and find that SAO is low quality but high popularity and that annoys them.

I think for me, I thought it was a really good show for the first 4-5 episodes. The vignette style eps that didn't relate to the overarching plot. Kirito joining a guild of weaker players, finding the PK'ers etc. That was really interesting to me. It had that sense of danger like anybody can die at any time and the world was still hostile.

Then they brought sauna in and the tone of the show changed, to more about their relationship( which I kinda found pretty boring), the weird arc with Yui( Ive come to like the character, but the whole adopting her thing was dumb imo). Then they jump to pretty much the end of the arc, with finding out the creator was there the whole time etc. I feel like the original idea of the story was dropped for a romantic story, forgetting why they were there. This is kinda why I like Log Horizon. From the start the show never loses the fact that they are inside the game and they have to adapt to the games world and deal with game tropes etc. SAO lost that after 5 episodes.

Also I wasn't a fan of how it jumped around, sometimes months at a time. Like characters would grow off camera and then return and be adjusted to living in the game. Like Kirito is a beater one ep, then next ep nobody cares anymore. I much rather prefer the slow burn of Log Horizon where everything gets dealt with. There aren't any skips between were stuck in a game and oh, we have shops and guilds created with a form of order

And the ALO arc was just dumb. Asuna is still trapped by her fiancé, tentacles, incest, no real threat of dying

I like SAO2, because I found Sinon to be interesting. I guessed the villain pretty much from the first few eps and I knew that they weren't going to kill kirito. The second half of SAO2 looks like garbage so far

Hate is such a strong word.

I just intensely disliked SOA.

I disagree. It because some people think it is a faultless, perfect anime that so much scrutiny is placed on Sword Art online, far more than what would regularly been applied had there not been intense devotion to the series. In other words, I can't stand the praise given to this series, hence the hatred and cries of it being overrated.

A lot of people praise it for being the best anime ever created which it's not. However i love it, in my top 25 list and I love the light novels. A majority of people hate it because it's popular or because it get's hyped up by people who have seen few anime. It has flaws but it is very enjoyable.
