I personal think it's the lack of intricacy and detail that you could included to make the SAO arc longer their were alot of things we weren't told it all just passed by so quickly, albiet I don't think the light novel went into such detail, (how ever I may be wrong) so they couldn't just make up alot of story. with all that in mind I think people wanted a longer more indepth anime... and when they saw that wasn't happening they were like F this!

Hi everyone!

To be honest, I really didn't like it at the beginning , I found it to be really boring and no plot. But I decided to re-watch it. Then, it hit me, SAO is awesome. I guess because in the beggening I wasn't paying too much attention or maybe everything was so fast. Anyway, loved season 2 and why shouldn't you?

From where I was at the time SAO came out, I was on a different anime streaming site and no one wanted to stop talking about it in the public chat boxes. It got to the point where the people were getting obnoxious and invasive about talking about it, demanding for the next episode even though it wasn't out yet, and putting out spoilers.

I'm not aware of what the hype was like at other websites, but the moderators at this one had their hands full and the other users were even getting sick of how abrasive and obnoxious the fans were getting. I kind of got sick of it too, so I was kind of put off by it for a while until Attack on Titan came out, where I tried watching it and quickly found out that the show had as little substance as it did.

At that time, I decided that I wanted to go back and try watching SAO to see if I had a real reason for hating it. The show is alright but it's not spectacular. I mean, the writers could have taken many different directions at certain parts of the plot to make the story progress a little more fluidly, but the show itself is not as bad as it seemed.

In my opinion, I think the hype had annoyed a lot of people, so I think the majority of the opposition comes from the people who dealt with the hype.

No one should hate SaO,

Well- more like no one should hate Asuna-san.

1. Characters are disappointing, generic stereotypes. Asuna is a trainwreck of a character (went from being an introvert to an annoying ass stereotypical tsundere)
2. Story is inconsistent. (Time skips, plotholes)
3. Plot conviennce (Things just happen because it's convienient for the plot. Examples are Yui and when Kirito beat Sugou in ALO (fairy king))
4. Incest
5. Pointless fanservice
6. Edginess
7. Harem
8. Main character is SO OP

This pretty much sums it up for me exactly.

That sums up most of the anime I watch and enjoy.

I really loved SAO, I recently just got crunchyroll and I looked at SAO for the first anime to watch. I really got into the story, I loved most of the characters, Kirito is just OP, Asuna is a likeable character and Klein. However when I got to the ALO story-arc it just felt a bit meh. I'm currently at like episode 6 of SAO 2 and so far I don't like as much, its ok but not really feeling it. However a friend told me they return to SAO near the end so I'm really just watching it for that.

I've seen people say they didn't like that Asuna became a damsel in distress. Come on! She never stopped trying to find a way out! She wasn't just sitting there waiting to be rescued until it seemed like she had no choice at which point she knew Kirito was coming, and actually dropped a card that was key to getting them in to rescue her! On top of which, this was over two months after SAO was cleared. She'd been stuck with Sugou that long and STILL had her spirit, and it was only when he couldn't hold himself back from rape any longer that she started breaking! You also forget that he could've controlled her long before that and probably knowing that (once he revealed it) probably didn't help. Seriously. She was NOT a damsel in distress in the ALO arc. Yes, she needed rescuing but she wasn't a fairy tale princess who waited for a prince that might not come either.

As for Yui... Sure plot device for conveniency... isn't that pretty much the definition of a plot device? inserting something convenient? And I've seen peopel complain about him saving her. If they had read they light novels or did any research (like check the wiki) they'd know that Kirito is super computer smart and built his own computer in elementary school. Of course he'd be able to save her data.

And yeah, he is kind of overpowered but come on. All main characters in anime are overpowered. Natsu from Fairy tail for example. Compared to that... Kirito isn't that overpowered.

But what /really/ annoys me about the anime itself is that the main character tends to be Kirito (except for Mother's Rosario), and in any case, few of the side characters ever make more than a brief cameo, and even his friends (a harem implies that they're all in a sexual relationship with him so no, he does NOT have a harem, and they all actually have decent reasons for liking him), don't appear much, and when they do, they're not that big of a focus, which is really sad, especially when it comes to Agil and Klein.

And back to what people say... Don't forget, this all happened in the light novels first so blame that writer, not those who so kindly developed the anime for us.

Overall, I'll keep watching it if it does continue but it is starting to sadden me that Kirito is the main focus and any other characters don't appear often, to the point where he'll enter different games without them. *sigh* Oh well.
