AIDS: Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome
HIV: A lentivirus of a subgroup of retroviruses, HIV causes AIDS.
The virus kills or damages cells of the body’s immune system.
HIV progressively destroys the body’s ability to fight infections and certain cancers.
People diagnosed with AIDS may develop life-threatening diseases from viruses or bacteria
that rarely make healthy people sick. These infections are called opportunistic infections.

People who already have a sexually transmitted disease, such as syphilis,
genital herpes, chlamydial infection, gonorrhea, or bacterial vaginosis,
are more likely to acquire HIV infection during sex with an infected partner.
HIV also spreads through contact with infected blood through a transfusion of
contaminated blood or blood components.
Women can transmit HIV to their babies during pregnancy or birth.
The virus does not spread through casual contact such as sharing of food,
utensils, towels and bedding, swimming pools, telephones, or toilet seats.
The virus is also unlikely to be spread by contact with saliva

Two different types of antibody tests,
enzyme-linked immunoassay (ELISA) and Western blot, are available.
The screening test is the ELISA test, and Western blot is the confirmatory test.
Both of these tests can be negative for up to 3 months after the exposure.
In this situation, if the suspicion for HIV infection remains high, another,
more accurate test can be performed. This test directly looks for the actual HIV particles
in the blood.

Prevention
The only way to prevent infection by the virus is to avoid behaviors that put you at risk,
such as sharing needles or having unprotected sex. Many people infected with HIV don't
have any symptoms. There is no way to know with certainty whether a sexual partner is infected.

Either abstain from having sex or use latex condoms, which may offer partial protection,
during oral, anal, or vaginal sex. Only condoms made of latex should be used.
Only water-based lubricants should be used with latex condoms
The risk of HIV transmission from a pregnant woman to her baby is significantly reduced
if the mother takes AZT during pregnancy, labor, and delivery and her baby takes it for
the first 6 weeks of life.

Acutaly it is a crime if you knowingly give aids to someone els ie> If you have unprotected sex while you know you have it yet willfully transmit it to others anyway you can face jail time. Many have faced jail time bc of that there was one case were at a college doorm building aids was spred between a number of students. To find the orginal source they qestioned all the who everyone had sex with, and after the investigation it was found out that it was becouse of this one guy who had unprotected sex with thies two girls even though he knew he had Aids. It spred to ten or more people becouse of him, he got arested for what I think was willfuly sreding a harmfull agent and more becouse it was as if he was posining people on purpos.

There was another one were a guy got arested for doing the same thing. His wife divorced him they had not seen each othere for a year plus some months. He came back to see her after that time but between that time period he aquired aids and he knew about it. When she refused to get back with him he raped her just to give her aids and told her she now has aids like he dose after he was finished.

Well you can get these things from other things, like drugs....I mean using drugs are illegal...and does that stop people? This law would be a pointless....and a lot of people who spread the disease dont know until years later...even if they do get monthly checks it doesn't mean it will show up right away...and its a shame that some people do not know what they are getting into but keep in mind some people also really care about the people who they get the virus from...just because someone has a disease doesn't mean they dont deserve to find love and happiness....I think if they do know though...they should tell the person they are with...they should have all rights to know but no....it should not be illegal....

If someone gets it from playing around, then I think serves them right.

If someone tried to protect themselves, and did all they can to make the procedure right, then I feel sorry for them, but that's just the way life is. Maybe the personed should've went to make tests to see if it's safe~~for them and the baby....

I think that you should only do it after marrigae, but that's only my oppion.

Don't forget that you could get STIs from any type of fluid transfer~~needles (pircings, tatoos, drugs,) and some (not fatal) from dirty enviroment (dirty clothes, sheets...)

i have one question though... if it becomes illegal, should people present some sort of medical clearance or any medical document that they are clear of these diseases to their partner before they have sex?

as stated by some, these diseases could be transferred through other ways... some are even born with AIDS... now, it's up to the partner if he or she wants to engage in a sexual relationship with a person whom she or he knows has any of these diseases....

it shouldn't really be illegal... but safe sex should be a rule of thumb.

It's already illegal to knowingly have HIV/AIDS and continue having unprotected sex. However, if you do make it illegal for everyone who is HIV positive or has AIDS, then how the hell do you regulate that? I think that breeches some serious lines of privacy and will, as mention, promote a greater social stigma on those who are more often victims. I dunno, the only way I could see such a law turning out would be something about as freaky as GATTACA (if you haven't seen that movie, fix that problem right now). Sure, it will physically benefit the people as a whole, but the moral treatment of certain people will go down. You can't honestly say that it will stop at AIDS. That stigma will likely spread to all STDs, possibly STIs (which are 100% curable infections that aren't even necessarily passed through sex but do effect the genitals) as there wasn't a distinction between the two for a long time.

I think people who know they have a disease and purposefully hide it from their sex partners or those who engage in sex with other for the sole purpose of spreading said disease are total slime. These types of people should be legally persecuted.

That aside, I don't agree with the ridiculous idea of making sex illegal for people who suffer from a sexually transmitted diseases. Sick people are not criminals and labelling them as such or denying them warmth that is freely given by another person who has full knowledge of said illness and the consequences are ridiculous. Free will should not and can not be limited to such an extent.

People have control of their lives and who they do it with. If they don't want to practice safe sex or check if their partner has it, then thats too damn bad. It's not like you'd automatically know who has it or not. Unless everyone was tested or something.

Perhaps the government should hold mandetory STD testing, the process of going to a clinic/etc.. and getting tested can be quicker and easier than you think.
