And you did it right. Also, thanks for voting for Chisaki.

Thank you for voting in general Crimson! I (and the other admins) really appreciate it.

rofl, I had the time to look around for once xD and Chisaki really reminds me of two of my friends so she kinda gets a liking boost right off the bat from there it just grew as the show continued xD

Ya, as stated in my previous post, I really like her and think she's a great character. She's getting man-handled by Rumi at the moment but maybe this is the start of her comeback

And I think I'll keep on updating the UBW thread each time a Fate character is up to vote, so everyone will be able to see it in time.

Ryukko Matoi (Kill la Kill) - Kind of have to agree with the fact that she's even more badass, as the only man she needs is a piece of clothing.

Kurumi Tokisaki (Date A Live 2) - As much as I hate to vote Shiro out, I found Kurumi's past slightly more interesting. This is a really close one, considering Shiro gets her share of moments. I guess I'm just partial to time magic. Plus, Sora can represent for Kuuhaku.

Sebastian Michaelis (Black Butler) - I normally hate characters who repeat the same line, over and over again. But it works for him. Being a bit macabre helps too.

Yuuki Konno (Sword Art Online) - For being respectably strong, independent, and caring.

Sora (No Game No Life) - Sora's far more interesting. I like Tatsuya's level head, but Sora's more human and I feel he's more intelligent, given the fact that he has to win against magic users without magic himself. Not to mention him and Shiro geek out about getting to do silly impersonations and other stuff. C'mon, you know you want to.

Kanie Seiya (Amagi Brilliant Park) - What can I say? Lovably arrogant jackass who thinks he's perfect, even though he's not 100 % infallible, but good enough. Not to mention he has the better job.

*Duel 1*

Winter
Match 1: Abstain

Match 2: Chisaki Hiradaira
She was always a sort of balancing force within her group of friends; she helped keep everyone in check, though you could say that she depended on them as a result, so it's only natural that she was more or less lost after a major event separated her from them, to the point where she actually experienced something akin to (but not quite the same as) survivor's guilt for the longest time and became unable to keep moving forward with her life; it was as if a layer of ice had formed and frozen her natural progression in life. I can't describe in words how much I felt for this girl during that time, nor can I describe how happy I was when things finally started turning up for her and she became able to start living without being weighed down by things that weren't her fault. Chisaki is incredibly human; I think this is a large part of why I connected with her so much over the course of her struggles and the growth that came about from overcoming them. As for Rumi, well - Unpopular Opinion #1 - she, Seki, and their anime ceased to appeal to me after about 5 episodes. But in Rumi's defense, there are few characters in this tournament I would choose over Chisaki, so it's not really her fault; I just have odd preferences in characters.

Match 3: Yato - Funny Controversial Dedication

Match 4: Yuugo Hachiken - Way Too Responsible

Spring
Match 1: Ritsu Kawai - Opening Up Quietly

Match 2: Shiro - Genius Gamer Girl

Match 3: Sora
I was going to just give Sora the title "The Ultimate Gamer" and be done with it, but I feel the need to explain something I see in him. This guy is different. I want to say he treats life like a game, but I know that phrase carries some negative connotations with it. Sora sees life as one big game in every sense of the word. He tends to talk down to his opponents and express his superiority to them; this may seem very rude and unsportsmanlike to some, but it's not unusual for more competitive players to say such things simply as part of getting into the spirit of competition. Compare Sora's attitude prior to and during a game to his attitude after the game. Unless Sora feels like he's being threatened or being looked down upon, he's generally a good sport about winning. Take the final arc of the anime, for example.
And it's not just Izuna, either. One of Sora's major ideals is to reject what the real world enforces and embrace what the world of games has to offer. The latter is something Sora encourages the residents of his new home world to embrace as well along his path to meeting Tet in competition once again; it's not his primary goal, but it is a notable goal of his. I really like the trait of someone on a high level bringing those around him/her (or under him, in this case) up to that same high level - well, at least close to that level, so that's a plus for me. So even though I really don't like Sora's perverted tendencies, I'm willing to overlook them in favor of the way he embraces his competitive spirit and shares that spirit with his people. Tatsuya . . . quite frankly, he bored me more often than not, and the one or two moments where I actually kind of liked his character were cancelled out and then some by the last few episodes, where I could not take him seriously as a character at all. I can't believe I wrote more about Sora than I did about a Nagi-Asu character.

Match 4: Nozomi Tojo
To me, Nozomi is the most mentor-like of the mentor figures in μ's. She's always there to catch and comfort the other girls when they slip at a crossroad. I'm normally not especially fond of this character trait, but when Nozomi revealed just how much her mentor role meant to her, how she'd wanted to be a mentor in a sizeable group like μ's for so long, she won me over. She may not be one of my favorites of the group, but that speaks more to how highly I think of the girls I like more than Nozomi than to anything Nozomi herself is lacking. I won't lie: the fact that Nozomi is from Love Live is what is pushing me to vote for her rather than abstain because I like Ayano about as much as Nozomi. She's a great big sister in so many ways, and I always love seeing good family relationships in anime, so even though what seemed like a big part of Ayano's story was more or less left out of the anime, "Ayano's Theory of Happiness" alone was enough to make this a tough decision for me, and against a Love Live girl, that's saying quite a bit.

Summer
Match 1: Abstain

Match 2: Yuuki Konno - Fighting, Leading, Inspiring

Match 3: Hana N. Fountainstand
Hana is an inspirational figure, the second of three that I'm voting for in this Duel. She's the one who gets Naru to start opening up and pursuing her dream, and even after that, she's the one at the center of everything, the one who, alongside Naru, continues to drive the group forward. She's a girl who brings out the best in those around her. I'd actually like to share a sort of abstract story I wrote about Hana in a different tournament setting not too long ago; it's in the spoiler below (partly because it's long) if anyone wants to read it.

It's hard to understand, but it's sort of an illustration of the description of Hana I just gave, and I think it shows how I see Hana better than I can show with literal language. As for Momoka, while she entertains me to no end, I generally prefer characters who provide me with more than just entertainment. There was that underlying theme about Momoka finding a place where she could fit in as she was rather than having to change herself to get along with others, but it just wasn't prevalent enough to outweigh the inspiration to me that is Hana.

Match 4: Suruga Kanbaru - Learning About Herself

Fall
Match 1: Aoi Miyamori - Growing Production Prodigy

Match 2: Shinichi Izumi - Human and Not

Match 3:; Kaori Miyazono
(I ran out of ideas for colors. ) I've written at great length about Kaori just recently, so I'll keep this brief. Kaori works hard to help Kousei get back into the world of musicians; she's a strict teacher, and she doesn't give Kousei any openings through which he can get away. She does this both for Kousei and for herself; she sincerely wants to see Kousei overcome his situation and grow to enjoy playing music and living life more than ever before, but she wants - well, more like needs confirmation that her own way of playing music and living life, i.e. prioritizing the audience's enjoyment over the judges' criteria when performing and just trying to enjoy life for what it is rather than worrying about what it could be, respectively. This dynamic really speaks to me and makes Kaori the third inspirational figure I'm voting for in this Duel (the first was Yuuki, if you couldn't tell). I respect the struggle Saber faces in relation to her backstory and the way it manages to manifest (subtly) even in the current Holy Grail War. But Saber has never inspired me, I have never really connected with her, and she is overall a character I respect more than I like, and I'm sorry, but I simply don't vote for characters I only respect over characters that I consider inspirational.

I've heard some criticisms about the way Kaori deals with Kousei and his situation; let me just say that I've been in situations where someone has had to take an aggressive approach to dealing with me in order to help me. In retrospect, I'm not convinced that taking a more "kind" approach would have worked in those situations; I did not enjoy being on the receiving end of that approach, but I'm scared to think of where I would be had the "kinder" alternative been used to deal with me instead. Kaori's aggressive approach to Kousei helps him; I don't think there's any question about that. Was there another approach she could have taken that would have helped him at least as well if not better that would not have involved giving him such a hard time? Maybe, maybe not. All that can be said is that her approach
and that Kousei, in response to Kaori asking him directly (an example of how Kaori needs reassurance concerning her way of doing things), said that he had no problem with it because it felt like it was working. Personally, I had no problem with being on the receiving end of such an approach because it worked for me, and that is why I have no problem with Kaori's approach or any similar approach being used in anime as long as the recipient feels it's worth it (unless it's for masochistic reasons).

Character Spotlight

Mutta Nanba - I personally think Mutta is one of, if not, the best characters from any anime in the last few years. One thing that I really like about him is that he's trying hard to follow his dream. Granted, it was a rocky road to get up that point. When he was just a kid, his little brother Hibito announced that he would become an astronaut and go to the moon. Mutta announced that he would stay a step ahead of him and go to Mars. That was the promise they made to each other. When they got older, Hibito fulfilled his promise. However, Mutta had forgotten all about it. After he lost his job his mother sent his resume to JAXA and Hibito encouraged him to follow his dreams. Mutta decided to go ahead and join the new astronaut selection program. He would passionately chase his dreams and make them a reality.

Another thing I really like about Mutta is his personality. It really makes him such an interesting character. He's extremely intelligent, after all, he did pass the exam to become a JAXA astronaut which is no easy task. He's usually calm and collected but can get competitive at times, especially with his brother. No one likes to lose, yeah? Unfortunately, he doesn't always have the best of luck which leads to a lot of hilarious and sad moments. But he doesn't let that get him down. No matter the obstacle, he has managed to overcome them with his extensive engineering background and out-of-the-box thinking.

I'd like to specifically highlight Mutta's out-of-the-box thinking. He's a quick learner and can multitask quite easily. Due to his competitive nature, he isn't afraid of using unusual methods to achieve his goals. They don't always work out well but you can't fault him for trying to be an innovator. Mutta also doesn't like to strain his relationships with people. A good example would be during a situation where he and his partners could only choose two people to become astronauts. He suggested they play rock, paper, scissors to see who would pass in order to give everyone a fair shot. He is also quite perceptive, at times being the only person to notice small details that turn out to be important.

To summarize, Mutta is a guy who's putting his all out there to chase his dreams. He's smart, innovative, and not afraid to take risks. He wisely uses all of his talents in order to move forward and make his dreams a reality.

Yeah, if you know me you know I like making a bit more elaborate votes. But with two contests going on at once...yeah. I'm not a machine I tell you! I need rest too! So for now, I'll just pick my favorite character each round and write something about them.

Winter

Match 1: Seishirou Tsugumi

God dammit two of my favorite characters of the year in the very first matchup. Personally I liked Satsuki better than Ryuuko anyway, but she's still a great character. Tsugumi though... maybe it's just because I've read all the manga chapters, but she's my favorite of the Nisekoi girls.

Match 2: Abstain

Never seen either show.

Match 3: Abstain

Once again haven't seen either show.

Match 4: Abstain

Did I not watch any shows in winter...? Then again now that I look I only nominated characters from four shows for winter.

Spring

Match 1: Enju Aihara

Good sidekick and one of the more likable characters on the show. If there's a season two... I have this bad idea there'll be some feels involved.

Match 2: Shiro

She wins everything and makes it look easy.

Match 3: Tatsuya Shiba

Another tough matchup early on, but dear god Tatsuya just might be the most overpowered character in the history of ever.

Match 4: Abstain

While I did watch Mekaku City Actors, I found it rather forgettable. Which is unfortunate because Shaft definitely did a great job with the visuals but the characters had nothing to remember them by.

Summer

Match 1: Abstain

I did watch Nozaki-kun, but I hated his character. The side characters were the only ones that made the show worth watching.

Match 2: Abstain

Never watched Free and Yuuki's character was too short-lived (too soon?) to really be memorable, for me at least. The feels just didn't work. While I did like the character a lot, not worth voting for.

Match 3: Momoka Sonokawa

Best character on one of my favorite shows of the year. While not all the episodes were great there were a few that were absolutely golden.

Match 4: Abstain

Never seen any of the Monogotari series and while I do like Illya as a character, wasn't a big fan of the magical girl show thing. Madoka Magicka kinda ruined that entire genre for me, in a good/bad way.

Fall

Match 1: Aoi Miyamori

I love Shirbako and I still can't really figure out why. Maybe it's because it focuses on something that I'm actually able to relate to in terms of working with deadlines always looming overhead.

Match 2: Shinichi Izumi

Second most badass character of the year behind Tatsuya Shiba. "Migi handle the defenses" followed by some Mortal Kombat shit? Dear god yes. Also the rock throw. Holy fuckballs.

Match 3: Kaori Miyazono

While I like Saber she's rather boring in F/SN:UBW. I liked her a lot better in F/Z. Kaori is a fun character and really interesting. Probably one of the best shows of the year.

Match 4: Kanie Seiya

Kanie is such an asshole but he gets things done and that's the important part. He also might be gay because he never put any moves on Sento, but you know... anime males and their lack of balls.
