I'd like to preface my duel one picks by saying that I have not seen many of these characters in action, due to limited availability or plain not having seen the show in question. When a character I do not care much for is against a character I do not know, I will abstain from voting, but when a character I do care for is against a character who I don't know, I will vote for the character I know.

Now that that's out of the way, here are my picks:

Winter

Ryukko Matoi (Kill la Kill) - I can't comment on Tsugumi as a character, due to not having been able to watch Nisekoi, so this pick is purely based on Ryukko Matoi's character. At the start of the series, Ryukko is a girl on a path for vengeance, trying to find her father's murderer. While she never loses her way (excluding a few moments), she finds more reasons to fight along the way. At first she is quite cold towards others, but during her adventures, she becomes a more caring and stable person. The series might be mostly action, but I think she had quite a few good scenes of development and introspection during it.

Rumi Yokoi (Tonari no Seki-kun) - This was a tough one, since I love both of these characters and their respective shows. While Chisaki probably has more character development (and definitely more screen time), Rumi wins by an inch with the pure fun of her character. Rumi's imagination rivals or even surpasses Seki's even though she spends most of the time just watching his shenanigans, and not doing much herself. They have a very strange character dynamic between them, and Rumi is my favorite character of the two. She starts off trying her hardest to ignore Seki's little games, but she gradually becomes more and more invested in them. Considering Seki does not speak and there are barely any other characters who interact with the two, she does a fine job pretty much carrying the whole show.

Mutta Nanba (Space Brothers) - I can't comment on Yato as a character, due to not having been able to watch Noragami, so this pick is purely based on Mutta Nanba's character. Mutta Nanba starts his adventure at a bad place, as he loses his job at a car manufacturer, but a forgotten promise with his astronaut brother draws him to grander ambitions. His road to becoming an astronaut is an inspiring one, and seeing him develop throughout the series was very fun and interesting. I hope we can see more of his adventures in anime form in the future.

Daiki Aomine (Kuroko no Basuke) - I can't comment on Hachiken as a character, due to not having been able to watch Silver Spoon, so this pick is purely based on Daiki Aomine's character. Daiki Aomine starts off as a villain, like the rest of the Generation of Miracles (aside from Kuroko). He is a lazy, short tempered and bored individual, who has grown tired of basketball. His interaction with Kuroko and the other Generation of Miracles is unconventional and even aggravating, though he actually is a much more caring person than he likes to show. Seeing his past and development through the series helps the viewer to understand how he came to be him and how he can change his attitude with enough push.

Spring

Nozomi Toujou (Love Live!) - This was another pretty tough choice. I liked Ayano in Mekakucity Actors, but I just like Nozomi a bit more. Nozomi Toujou is the wise "mother" character of the idol group, and is the one who brings the characters together. She is a very caring person and her close friendship with Eri is an interesting dynamic between the two. While her habit of groping the girls could be seen as sexual harassment, it often manages to cheer the group in a weird way.

Summer

Yuuki Konno (Sword Art Online) - Free! is still sitting tightly in my queue, but I haven't gotten around watching it yet, so this pick is purely based on Yuuki Konno's character. Yuuki appeared in the latter half of SAO II, so she didn't have too many episodes to make an impact. Despite this, I think she did a good job in showing the kind of character she is and what her aspirations are. Her friendship with Asuna was one of the highlights of the series in my opinion.

Fall

Aoi Miyamori (Shirobako) - While I do kind of like Levi's character, Aoi is my definite pick here. Watching Aoi Miyamori's struggle in her job as a production assistant at an anime studio is not something we usually see in anime, but it works well. Despite often getting juggled around on other people's whim, she manages to stay level headed and work problems out. Since she is newbie in the industry, she learns a lot of things, making her not only a good character, but also a vehicle for the audience to learn about the industry. Speaking of vehicles, she is a great driver as well, albeit a bit reckless.

Shinichi Izumi (Parasyte) - I can't comment on Ange as a character, due to not having been able to watch Cross Ange, so this pick is purely based on Shinichi Izumi's character. So far, Shinichi has had to endure a lot due to the parasite Migi and others of his kind. I won't spoil anything here, but his character has gone through a lot of development in the first half of the series already. Regardless of whether I think he is likable or not, his character is interesting nonetheless.

...I may have gone overboard with the explanations. Not sure if they make much sense to others either. Oh well.

EDIT: Whoops, I knew that the organizers aren't going to make it that easy to vote. Way too many rules have made this a grueling process.

Spring

Ritsu Kawai (Kawaisou) - Kawaii Book Lover

Sora (No Game No Life) - Perverted Gaming King

Nozomi Toujou (Love Live!) - Nozomi has a unique and funny way to cheer her friends up with her groping her friends.

Summer

Makoto Tachibana (Free!) - Makoto would make a great husbando! He's my absolute number 1 favourite in Free! He's got compassion, and he's so kind and caring! They didn't show us too much of him with his family, but from the little nitty-bitty parts of him taking care of his younger siblings, it really shows that they adore their Onii-chan.

Wow....I'm surprised this many people like Tatsuya.

Also, sorry Chisaki, I liked you the best out of Nagi, but you are going up against the best girl Ayano Tatemya.

LOL whoops ...she's actually going up against Nozomi. Well, it does not change anything.

I personally think he's a horrible character as he was portrayed in the anime. There's definitely potential for an interesting character with both inner and outer conflicts, but the anime just didn't do anything with it. I'm guessing he's better in the ln, but I haven't read it.

Ryukko Matoi (Kill la Kill) - because she doesn't let a skimpy outfit stop her from being a fighter. (Tsugumi, an otherwise impressive and skilled bodyguard, would be cowering in a corner until Raku gave up his coat to cover her or something).

Rumi Yokoi (Tonari no Seki-kun) - because her imagination in narrating is equal to Seki's imagination in playing. Also she's a robot-family protector.

Mutta Nanba (Space Brothers) - Once cars, next Mars. I love this goofy, real, adult, guy.

Yuugo Hachiken (Silver Spoon 2) - because I loved watching him grow and and support friends, and learn truths.

Umetarou Nozaki (Nozaki-kun) - because I'm kind of tired of Sebastian, and Nozaki's manga-creation process made me giggle a lot.

Aoi Miyamori (Shirobako) - because I'd love to have her as a co-worker. She's diligent, resourceful, and is managing to mix passion with pragmatism.

Shinichi Izumi (Parasyte) - This was my very hardest choice. I love seeing the development of both Shinichi and Ange. On the one hand Ange may be more deserving because she has to make conscious choices to adjust, while Shinichi, though not unaware, is being controlled more subconsciously. Still, that's just the plot--I think we the audience are intended to see as indicative of the interplay and relationships between emotion, strength/weakness, right and wrong actions when one has power, how these develop in the face of experience, and so forth. Though I'm choosing Shinichi, it's honestly a toss-up.

Kaori Miyazono (Shigatsu) - Motivating Mad Musician. I'd love to be in an audience watching and listening to a performer like her.

Akane Tsunemori (Psycho Pass) - because I love that she uses intellect and training and intuition when doing her work. I love that she's managing to work brilliantly in a system, while not being in thrall to that system. Finally, she's simply the CLEAR choice.

Chisaki Hiradaira - I enjoyed her character arc the most. Her introspective and almost melancholic disposition seemed very real for someone in her position in the love Pentagon or whatever it was. Even more so in the second half.

Enju Aihara - I enjoyed her upbeat disposition along with her continued attempts at Rentaro.

Kurumi Tokisaki - Well, I love her personality and her fighting style. I also love her in her goth loli attire as well as her school uniform(and um, lingerie). She is, for me, the best girl from her series.

Sora - Between these two OP characters, I enjoy Sora more. He is much more fun to watch, actually having the capability to make you laugh at least.

Nozomi Tojo - She is my favorite μ's member. I love how caring and mature she comes off as. Her washi washi mischief and her tarot reading are also great contrast to that.

Umetarou Nozaki - The lengths to which he's willing to go to improve his shoujo manga along with his seemingly gullible nature make him fun to watch, getting caught up in the antics of the others. Not to say he doesn't cause his own fair share of interesting situations.

Kaori Miyazono - Her strong desire to leave her mark in any person's life she comes across through her music is admirable.

Kanie Seiya - His narcisstic qualities and arrogance made for some great comedy in the beginning. That he was actually able to back it up a little by being so useful was impressive.

Ange - I like how she has grown from the sheltered weak princess into capable and defiant towards what the world's plans are for her.

Illyasviel von Einzbern - She is a fun magical girl, since she openly acknowledges how ridiculous it all comes off as. I enjoyed how far she was willing to go to prevent Kuro from taking over her life and that she holds no grudge, considering Kuro's circumstances.
