I have a sneaking suspicion that Wakanim in the UK also have a hand in Crunchyroll getting very few UK licenses this season. Anime Limited, the parent company of Wakanim recently released a Durarara season 1 Blu-ray set too, so it would not surprise me if season 2 ends up on their site for the UK.

So far, the only titles CR has announced territories for that haven't been a Funimation title here has been Magic Kaito 1412 and Alnoah Zero 2, so I doubt Wakanim has been a factor at this point.

On an aside, the US/Canada only licensed for Magic Kaito 1412 is rather restrictive in comparison to other YTV titles I checked. I have to wonder if some production committee member is throwing a monkey wrench into the licensing, or if despite it saying YTV, CR actually had to go in via the back door and sub-license it from a company in the US that licensed it for home video (but hasn't announced it yet).

Someone else overbidding and licensing Durarara 2 for streaming in the UK is the only way I see CR not having it available for the UK, as the original series was made available there by CR (and that was way back in January 2010 when CR had considerably less influence).

FYI, Wakanim apparently already has the French streaming rights for the series.

For the record, the territories at the time the simulcast of the original series was announced were: United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Finland. More recent Aniplex titles have broadened the scope of territories quite a bit. I expect the territories for the new series will closely resemble those for Aldnoah Zero (with the possible exception of Australia and New Zealand, since Madman has it there).

Unfortunately, "working on" doesn't always yield a result.

If they do come out with some form of international streaming, I expect we'll see them price it the same, resulting in the same "We pay the same, but get less" complaints CR long has from users.

When using their site (I usually view Funimation on my Roku), I find it easier to select the show I want from the scrolling alphabetical list that appears at the lower right of most pages (such as the main page):

Those in the UK should keep an eye on a service called Viewster as they tend to license titles from Funimation, and some are available in the UK.

They have a number of titles listed on this page that UK users should check to see if they were available to them, as well as a notice that 10 simulcasts are coming for this season.

The issue with viewster is it is a free streaming service, that sounds stupid I know, however that means ads and that means lower quality streams. This may change over time and become better and improved but to be honest there is no difference between viewster and legally streaming anime except the fact that you are legally streaming it on viewster.

The service would be much improved by a HD option however I think that this is something that will come with time if the service can be allowed to grow. As they are not solely focused on anime like animax they may actually be able to grow as they are not putting all their eggs in a rather niche basket.

I'll wait and see what happens. At least they're taking notice.

Companies trying to hold onto old business models to keep in business (just like the music, movie industries). Need to accept anime fans arent going to wait a year after it airs in japan to pay £14 for a single DVD with four episodes on. they will get fan subs and simply not pay for it. creating a loss of royalties for the animators.

If anyone can point me in the direction of a any number of streaming services to get these shows legally in the UK i'll do it. else ill be using VPNs and accessing the content i wish to see regardless, and when that fails fansubs will fill in the gap.

On CR at least, not for any country that has English as its primary language.

I'll assume that is what you meant since we already have more than that number of total simulcasts, but I wanted to clarify it for anyone else reading this.

I was talking about total simulcasts ... I was not just talking about North American access, so "will have fifteen to thirty or more" was talking about a range of countries. Since I'm in Beijing, I can't always tell how many continuing series North America has, but I assumed that would take it most of the way to thirty.

I know that the topic of the Winter 2015 thread is where the new simulcasts will end up, but whether a series is a new series replacing one that finished or a continuing series, it still represents new episodes of anime (more or less) weekly.

Don't be sad, be happy. The shows picked up as exclusives by the DVD distributors never showed on CR in the US ... all this means is that they are available to some CR members who live outside of the reach of the Funimation exclusive contract.

Well, ok, be sad for those members who live inside the reach of the Funimation contract but outside the reach of the Funimation streaming service or any service that Funimation is willing to license to. They don't even have the option of using Funimation's borked site to watch the series.

Though to be fair, they do have other means to watch the shows, they just are not legit means. Hmmmm ....

Oh, I got it! Be sad for the creators who have access to an audience willing to watch a legit distribution blocked because Funimation is unwilling to sublicense to Crunchyroll for "English speaking countries" outside of North America. Their Japanese international licensors and Funimation are letting them down.
