Cancelling my premium membership until CR gets some animes I like again. I'd go with Funimation for some, but their site is slow as heck, and they don't have apps on the platforms I use (Windows, etc). Funimation really is killing the field from within, feels like the era before we had CR.

Okay, fair enough, but the point is that it is such a inconsequental number of shows that I never noticed the US being excluded before. The vast majority of the time when I see a show that has been excluded from other regions it will say "Available in the US and Canada". I have a sneaking suspicion that Wakanim in the UK also have a hand in Crunchyroll getting very few UK licenses this season. Anime Limited, the parent company of Wakanim recently released a Durarara season 1 Blu-ray set too, so it would not surprise me if season 2 ends up on their site for the UK.

Whilst it is true that Anime Limited do tend to pick up the streaming licences to their shows, they continuously work with other streaming platforms such as Viewster, Animax, Netflix etc as they want anime to be widely available, as they understand that not everyone wants an expensive collector's editions or wants to wait a year or so for a 'bare bones' release.

They have also mentioned on Anime UK News Forum that they have been in contact with Crunchyroll in regards to the titles they own the rights to, so I can't see them being the reason for the lack of UK licences on Crunchyroll.

Found on FUNimation Help's twitter (via Anime UK News forum's Winter 2015 Stream thread):

- Hey @FUNimation would it ever be possible to let people from the UK view your streaming content? I'll even subscribe and pay you for it

- We are working on expanding our territories for digital content in 2015. Keep posted for updates!

Unfortunately, "working on" doesn't always yield a result.

Yes, but it is at least a step in the right direction, since it says "we are working on expanding our territories for digital content in 2015." That has the sound of referring to something actually presently underway.

If they do come out with some form of international streaming, I expect we'll see them price it the same, resulting in the same "We pay the same, but get less" complaints CR long has from users.

Yup. Though if the expansion of "English speaking countries" in Europe has stabilized a bit, it may be that they could do an Ireland & Scandinavia expansion and have very close to complete coverage in simulcasts, with the main holes in their catalog titles.

As to the point this is the only time you've seen a show excluded from the US, it is probably because it hasn't been significant to you. It began with No-rin a year ago. That was when CR first started nibbling around the edges of Funimation's rights to try and pick up series for other countries.

If its been excluded from the rest of the world, there wouldn't be anything left to announce if the North American rights were not included. 4-5yrs ago basically all of the sublicenses were North America only and only the direct from Japan licenses had broader distribution ... now almost all of the sublicenses are English Speaking countries unless the rights have been take by another country-specific streaming service.

Nope, that's not it ... its that (1) the first set were Funimation series, (2) which happened to be broadcasting fairly early after New Year's, (3) Funimation only picked up the English language rights, as per usual and (4) Crunchyroll is continuing to be able to pick up continental European rights for its German and French versions of Crunchyroll, which is a threshold it crossed a year ago now.

The only one where Wakanim/AL might be involved is KanColle in the announcement from Ikki Con, which seems likely to have been a Sentai pick up. Normally Sentai sublicenses all of the rights to Crunchyroll that were not picked up on an exclusive basis, so if Madman picks up streaming rights to a Sentai title, we see a "Oz/NZ" hole in the English Language Countries rights, and if AnimaxUK or AnimeLtd pick up streaming rights, we see a "UK" hole.

Cancelling your subscription based on the very first set of announcements, to a series of titles that was already announced by Funimation so we already knew were not coming to Crunchyroll for North America? I assume that you also walk out of football games at the end of the first quarter and baseball games halfway through the second inning.

What country are you in?

If you are in the US or Canada, there wasn't much reason to expect it here, since Funimation already had the original series. They had also licensed it for home video, meaning the publisher could expect the same for the current (second) series.

A bit of trivia: In an interview published by ANN, an exec at Funimation revealed that the original series was their top performing simulcast of 2012.

You specifically mentioned Windows as an example app platform, but CR doesn't have a Windows app, either.

They currently have apps for iOS, Android, Roku, Xbox 360, and PS3.

PS4 and Vita are due in "early 2015". Xbox One and Chromecast apps have previously been reported to be in the pipeline.

They might have meant Windows Phone; CR does have an app for that platform (and FUNimation does not).

SDreamer could return or turn back on renewal in about a week when the announcements should be essentially complete (assuming the lineup meets their approval). That would be more like leaving early in the game, then returning in the last 10 minutes to see how it turns out.

If by "until CR gets some animes I like again", it was actually meant to wait until the next season, yes, that would make no sense.

Unless you think it won't be in your region, you can uncross those fingers (as about 6 weeks ago):

Yeah, but If "Cancelling my premium membership until CR gets some animes I like again.", doesn't sound like it means "Cancelling my premium subscription for this week, I'll restart it if I like what is announced in the rest of this week". If that's what SDreamer meant to convey, they need to work on clearer phrasing.

Though I guess somebody who has so little patience that they cannot wait a week to find out could well be the person who leaves at the first quarter of a football game loudly announcing to the people around, "they've lost this game, I'll be back when they get their act together" and who then slips back in if their team makes a comeback in the third.

If you read the first post, it says:

2 catalog episodes will be released each week at the simul time until they get caught up.
