Bungo Stray Dogs Gets Anime Adaptation at Studio Bones ANN News

Takuya Igarashi, Yoji Enokido helm series about famous literary figures with supernatural powers

The official Twitter account for Kafka Asagiri and Sango Harukawa's Bungō Stray Dogs manga announced on Friday that the series will get an anime adaptation.

Takuya Igarashi and Yoji Enokido, the director and screenwriter team behind Ouran High School Host Club and Star Driver, will helm the anime at Studio BONES.

Writer Kafka Asagiri artist Sango Harukawa began the manga in Kadokawa's Young Ace in 2012. Kadokawa will ship the 8th compiled volume of the manga on September 4. The pair also writes and illustrates the Bungō Stray Dogs novel series. Kadokawa published the third novel in May.

The "battle action" story Bungo Stray Dogs centers around a league of literary figures with supernatural powers. For example, in real life, Ryūnosuke Akutagawa wrote acclaimed stories that inspired Akira Kurosawa's Rashōmon film and the Aoi Bungaku Series anime's Jigoku Hen (Hell Screen) arc. In Bungō Stray Dogs, he has the power to transform and manipulate his cloak into a monster-like entity. Together, these writers solve mysteries as part of the "Armed Detective Agency."

The series mainly features Japanese authors such as Rampo Edogawa, Kenji Miyazawa, Osamu Dazai (pictured top in key art above), Atsushi Nakajima (pictured bottom in key art above), Doppo Kunikida, and Akiko Yoshino. It has also featured contemporary Japanese authors such as Yukito Ayatsuji (Another novel/manga/anime/live-action film, Tsukidate no Satsujin) and Natsuhiko Kyogoku (Requiem from the Darkness, Mōryō no Hako, Tōfu Kozō, Loups-Garous), as well as overseas authors such as Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Agatha Christie, and Dan Brown.

Japanese bookstore employees ranked the manga among the top 15 for 2014.

Story about elementary student working as a maid for his uncle launched in 2008

The Twitter account for Kadokawa's B's Log Comic magazine revealed on Monday that Ototachibana's Shōnen Maid manga is getting an anime adaptation. The announcement adds that Kadokawa will reveal more details about the anime in future issues of B's Log Comic.

The manga revolves around Chihiro Komiya, an energetic elementary school student who was living with his mom. Production I.G Acquires FLCL REMAKE ? Rights For Ventures Such as Anime Remake ANN NEWS

Acquired from Gainax

The anime studio Production I.G announced on Friday that it acquired the rights to the 2000-2001 original video anime FLCL from Gainax, with whom I.G co-produced the anime. It added that it will take advantage of those rights for a "new anime remake" and other ventures.

Synch-Point and later Funimation have released the anime in North America. Funimation describes the story:

Naota is a detached sixth-grader afflicted by the pangs of puberty. He's fooling around with his brother's ex-girlfriend when a crazed girl on a motor scooter runs him over, brains him with a bass guitar, and moves into his house. She says she's an alien, and hurls Naota into the middle of a mega-corporation's secret agenda. And now giant battling robots shoot from his skull when he has naughty thoughts.

The anime is the first directorial effort from Kazuya Tsurumaki, who served as assistant director on the Neon Genesis Evangelion television anime and would go on to direct the new Evangelion films. Production I.G notes that the dubbed versions of the anime have been popular overseas, particularly in North America where it ran on television. Kadokawa Shoten's Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko novelized the story, and Kodansha's Monthly Magazine Z adapted the story into manga as the anime was being released. It won the third place in Canada's Fantasia Film Festival in 2003.

1. Bummer Gainax lost the rights. Atleast they still have the history.
2. This is gonna be hype XL if it happens
3. Funimation (or whoever might/will bring this to America.) Better bring back the original English dub cast. Or it will be a DOA trainwreck regardless of who they get.
