Macross Creator Kawamori Offers Details on Macross Delta Anime, Thunderbirds ANN NEWS

New show to feature "Valkyrie vs. Valkyrie" with planet-bound setting teased

Macross anime creator Shoji Kawamori appeared at a "Macross Plastic Model Discussion" stage event at the All Japan Model and Hobby Show on Saturday with representatives from six plastic model and hobby companies. During the event, Kawamori provided more details on Macross Delta (Macross Δ), first new Macross television anime since 2007-2008's Macross Frontier.

Kawamori confirmed that both fighters in the visual are "Valkyries" (transforming variable fighters), and he specifically cited the Swedish fighter Saab 35 Draken as an inspiration for the fighter in background. He added that he has been fan of Draken since he was a child.

He also acknowledged that the fighter in the foreground shares a design lineage with previous variable fighters in Macross anime and therefore was less of a challenge to design. By contrast, the background fighter will feature a relatively new transformation scheme that bears little similarity to those of previous Macross variable fighters.

The emcee also noted that the two fighters have exhausts in different colors, and Kawamori explained that this is because the fighters come from different manufacturers. Kawamori also noted that he has been deliberately avoiding more direct design inspirations from current real-life fighters, since stealth considerations have made real fighters look more similar and harder to distinguish from each other.

Kawamori added that this new series will emphasize "Valkyrie vs. Valkyrie," as opposed to previous television series. While video series such as Macross Plus and Macross Zero prominently featured variable fighters against each other, Kawamori has not done this in a Macross television series in a long time.

The emcee of the event noted that the Macross Delta logo features a planet within the Japanese characters that form the word "Macross." Kawamori specifically noted that this is in direct contrast with Macross Frontier, whose setting was primarily in space. He started to describe more about Macross Delta's setting but stopped short and asked fans to watch the "'Chō Jikū' Seisaku Happyōkai" ("The Super Dimension" Production Unveiling) event on October 29.

Kawamori pointed out that the delta symbol in the logo is made of triangular symbols, to symbolize the three main thematic elements of Macross: music, a love triangle, and transforming fighter planes. However, he noted that the two symbols are split, and explained that this is indicative that the three elements will not come together as expected in the new story.

Saturday's Macross event featured a discussion between Kawamori and representatives of six hobby companies. Macross Modelers, a new brand that encompasses the different plastic model lines for the franchise, is launching with Aoshima, Wave, TOMYTEC, Hasegawa, Bandai, and Max Factory. Hasegawa confirmed at the hobby show that it will make kits for Macross Delta.

Macross Delta will hold "'Chō Jikū' Seisaku Happyōkai" ("The Super Dimension" Production Unveiling) — a live-streamed event that will reveal more details on the project — on October 29 at 12:00 p.m. Kawamori will appear at the event, and the event will reveal the main staff, the winner of the audition for the new singer in the anime, and the anime's characters. About 8,000 candidates applied for the singing audition.

The 33-year-old Macross science-fiction franchise began in 1982 with The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, a television anime series with themes of music, a love triangle, and transforming fighter planes. The franchise spawned two more television series (Macross 7 and Macross Frontier), several theatrical films (starting with The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love?), and several video series (including Macross II, Macross Plus, Macross Dynamite 7, and Macross Zero).

The last television anime in the Macross franchise was Macross Frontier in 2007. It has been four years since the last major Macross anime, the second Macross Frontier film.

DISCLAIMER / Not Sure if anime or Live Action with models and CG ??

Macross Creator Kawamori Offers Details on Macross Delta Anime, Thunderbirds / Thunderbirds Are Go! ANN NEWS

Kawamori also discussed his involvement in the new Thunderbirds project during Takara Tomy's "Thunderbirds Are Go! Project & New Product Unveiling" special stage event after the Macross event. The British science-fiction franchise Thunderbirds is returning with a new television series that combines physical miniatures and CG. Popular model kit illustrator Yuji Kaida joined Kawamori at the stage event since he is returning to Thunderbirds to draw art for the new series' kits.

Kawamori acknowledged that he has been a fan of Thunderbirds since childhood, so he was thrilled to contribute to the franchise directly. He designed the brand-new Thunderbird S ("Shadow") jet for new series, and while he acknowledged that it does not transform per se, it does have different modes such as a "high speed mode." Kawamori said he is particularly pleased that the Thunderbird S is getting a die-cast Tomica toy on October 2 — it is his first design to get such a toy in Tomy's long-running toy line. Takara Tomy showed the prototype and Kaida's box art for the first plastic model kit for the new series, The Mole (Jet Mogura). When asked about more models such as the Thunderbird S, the company representative teased fans by saying he cannot make any announcements yet.

Key/Visual Art's Rewrite Visual Novel Gets TV Anime ANN NEWS

Grisaia's Tensho helms anime at 8-Bit with Romeo Tanaka, Visual Art's Kai

The Charlotte television anime ended on Sunday with an announcement that a television anime project based on Key/Visual Art's Rewrite PC visual novel is starting.

Tensho (Kinmoza! Kiniro + Mosaic, The Fruit of Grisaia) is directing the anime at 8-Bit and also supervising the series scripts. Romeo Tanaka (Cross Channel scenario, Humanity Has Declined) and Visual Art's Kai (Clannad scanrio, Grim Reaper Kyou) are credited with collaborating on the composition and scripts. Masayuki Nonaka (Hello!! KINMOZA chief animation director, The Fruit of Grisaia main animator) is adapting the game's original character designs by Key/Visual Art's Itaru Hinoue (Kanon, Air, Clannad, Little Busters!) for animation.

The original 2011 Rewrite visual novel takes place in Kazamatsuri, a fictional city where civilization and greenery co-exist. Within it, players assume the role of student Kotaro Tennoji and interact with his fellow classmates Kotori Kanbe, Chihaya Ohtori, Akane Senri, Sizuru Nakatsu, and Lucia Konohana (voiced by Chiwa Saito, Saya Shinomiya, Eri Kitamura, Keiko Suzuki, and Risa Asaki, respectively).

Itaru Hinoue (AIR, Kanon, CLANNAD) served as the game's project creator and main illustrator. Romeo Tanaka (Cross Channel, Kana: Little Sister), Ryukishi07 (Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, Umineko no Naku Koro ni) and Yūto Tonokawa (Little Busters!) wrote the game's storyline scenarios. Jun Maeda (AIR, CLANNAD, Angel Beats!) was involved with Rewrite's musical compositions and quality control.

The Rewrite Harvest festa! fan disc, written by the game's original team of Romeo Tanaka (Cross Channel, Kana: Little Sister), Ryukishi07 (Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, Umineko no Naku Koro ni), and Yūto Tonokawa (Little Busters!), featured various additional stories involving the heroines of the original game, and both were illustrated by Key artist Itaru Hinoue. The original game was also ported to the PSP and PS Vita systems in 2014, followed by a PlayStation 3 version this past February.

Visual Art's/Key President Takahiro Baba acknowledged in 2013 the possibility of a Rewrite anime series by saying, "If they call me, I'd be more than happy to do the anime."

Sailor Moon Crystal Gets 3rd Season on Death Busters ARC ANN NEWS

New season to assemble all 10 Senshi

The final episode of the second Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal anime season aired on Monday, and the anime's website announced that production on a third season for the Death Busters arc has been green-lit. The new season will assemble all 10 Senshi — specifically, the popular outer Senshi such as Sailor Uranus, Sailor Neptune, and Sailor Saturn will join Sailor Moon, Sailor Chibi Moon, and the others. The new season will adapt the arc from the fifth and sixth volumes of the complete edition of Naoko Takeuchi's original Sailor Moon manga.

Kotono Mitsuishi has been reprising the starring title role for the Crystal anime. The cast has also included Hisako Kanemoto as Ami Mizuno/Sailor Mercury, Rina Satou as Rei Hino/Sailor Mars, Ami Koshimizu as Makoto Kino/Sailor Jupiter, and Shizuka Itou as Minako Aino/Sailor Venus.

Crunchyroll, Niconico, Hulu, and other services streamed the series overseas as it debuted online in Japan. Viz Media licensed the series for release in North America.

Takeuchi's original magical girl manga inspired an earlier anime incarnation that aired for five seasons from 1992 to 1997. That television anime from two decades ago spawned several feature films and theatrical shorts as well. A string of popular stage musicals ran from 1993 to 2005, and a new all-female musical production helped launched the franchise's 20th anniversary in 2013. The third musical in the current revival just ended its run on Sunday, and like the upcoming third Crystal season, it covered the Death Busters arc.

'RS Project' Wins MechaTsuku Contest to Get Mecha Anime ANN NEWS

Every Star had announced 5 finalists in contest on March 1
Smartphone novel production company Every Star announced on March 31 that "RS Project" has won its "Bokutachi no Mitai Mecha Anime o Tsukurou Seisaku Iinkai" ('Let's make the mecha anime we want to see' production committee, or "MechaTsuku" for short) contest. The project will get an anime that will air on Fuji TV.

RS Project (originally proposed as "F.S. Project" for "Find Storage") takes place in a parallel world that resembles modern Japan, but where alien lifeforms known as "Kikō" (Trick) fell from the sky ten years prior and started attacking humanity. The main characters are a pilot, Mizuru Mido, and her assistant, Fuu Sagami, who use a mecha made out of an enemy's remains. However, battle causes memory loss for the pilot, and they must unravel the mystery as to why.

Roll was in charge of the original planning for the contest entry, and Shūichirō Satō designed the mecha. Every Star is also hosting some of RS Project's submitted mecha designs for the contest.

Every Star unveiled the contest in March 2014. Phase one asked for general outlines of a proposed 60-minute mecha anime. Phase two, held in June 2014, asked for separate entries in character design, mechanical design, and screenplay. Every Star then produced short videos for five finalists, and made those videos live on March 1, 2015. The video with the highest play count by March 31 won the contest. RS Project's video garnered 19,033 views by March 31.

Every Star has not yet revealed more details about when the anime will air.
