Animator Lists Owarimonogatari / Monogatari Anime in 2015 ANN News

Animator Hiroko Kazui lists in her work history that she worked on the anime of NisiOisin's Owarimonogatari novel volumes this year. According to her listing, she did storyboards for "Monogatari Series Final Season Owarimonogatari." She previously drew the storyboards for the Monogatari Series Second Season anime from the studio SHAFT.

The three-volume Owarimonogatari novel is part of the "final season" of the Monogatari series. The first volume shipped with the stories "Ōgi Formula," "Sodachi Riddle," and "Sodachi Lost" in October 2013. The second volume shipped in January 2014 with the story "Shinobu Mail." The third volume shipped in April 2014.

The anime adaptation of NisiOisin's entire Monogatari Series of novels was "officially" green-lit, and the novels already inspired several anime adaptations from director Akiyuki Shinbo and the studio SHAFT.

The novel series' "final season" ended with Zoku Owarimonogatari last September, but it features a teaser for "Monogatari Series, Next Season Tsugimonogatari." Vertical will publish the earlier Kizumonogatari novel in November.

Dokyusei / Classmates Boys-Love Anime Film Slated for Early 2016 ANN News

The anime film of Asumiko Nakamura's Dōkyūsei (Classmates) boys-love manga will open at Tokyo's Shinjuku Wald 9 and other Japanese theaters in early 2016. (Hatsuharu, the word used to describe the opening date, is a term that traditionally means the New Year season in January, as opposed to the literal early spring.)

The story begins during music class before the chorus festival, when male student Hikaru Kusakabe notices that the bespectacled honor student Rihito Sajo is not singing. Although he thinks that Rihito just doesn't like singing, he finds him practicing alone in the classroom after school. Without even thinking, Hikaru calls out to him.

Kenji Nojima (Sailor Moon Crystal, Psycho-Pass) and Hiroshi Kamiya (Shirokuma Café, Durarara!!) will star in the anime as Rihito Sajō and Hikaru Kusakabe, respectively.

Shouko Nakamura (Penguindrum, Kill la Kill episode director) will direct the adaptation at A-1 Pictures with character designs by Akemi Hayashi. Chieko Nakamura will serve as the art director, Ritsuko Utagawa will handle color design, and guitarist Kōtarō Oshio will provide the soundtrack.

Nakamura published the original manga in Japan in 2006 in one compiled volume. The series was followed by the spin-off Sora to Hara and sequels Sotsugyōsei (Graduates) and O.B.. Digital Manga Guild has licensed Dōkyūsei and Sotsugyōsei in English.

Hakone-chan Manga About Hot Spring Spirit Gets TV Anime ANN NEWS

Himegoto's Takeyuki Yanase helms comedy about girl-like spirit & high school boy

Asahi Production and the Hakone-chan Production Committee announced on Wednesday that a television anime adaptation of Daisuke Yui's Onsen Yōsei Hakone-chan (Young Hot Spring Spirit Hakone-chan) manga has been green-lit. The "warm slapstick hot spring comedy" centers around a hot spring spirit in the popular Japanese resort town of Hakone.

The story follows Hakone, a hot spring spirit who descended to a spa resort on Earth. However, with her long slumber, she looks like a little girl on the outside. (The "Yōsei" in the title is a wordplay on the Japanese words for fairy and a young child.) The high school boy Tōya stumbles across her at a hot spring and ends up joining Hakone in retrieving her original powers.

Takeyuki Yanase (Himegoto) is directing the anime at Asahi Production and Production Reed. Korie Tomonaga (writer on Soreike! Anpanman, Funassyi no Funafunafuna Hiyori) and Momoko Murakami (writer on Pretty Rhythm Aurora Dream, Futsū no Joshikōsei ga Locodol Yattemita) are in charge of the series scripts. Yanase and Masaaki Sakurai (Nisekoi, Survival Game Club!) share the chief animation director role, and Yanase is also designing the characters.

The anime series will premiere in October and run for 13 episodes on Animax, Teletama (TV Saitama), and other stations.

Yui launched the manga in Aplix's Comic Metor website in 2012, and Holp published the second compiled book volume in April 2014. Comic Meteor reposted the first three chapters to celebrate the announcement of the television anime. Hakone is the real-life locale inspiration for many anime such as Evangelion and Initial D.

Gundam: The Origin II Unveils Premiere Date, Cast, Staff ANN News

Ayumi Fujimura, Tohru Furuya, Toshihiko Seki join cast of episode premiering October 10

The official website for the Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin original video anime project announced the main cast, staff, and premiere date for the second episode on Wednesday. The episode, "Artesia's Sorrow," will open for a limited two-week engagement in 15 Japanese theaters on October 31.

Most of the staff and cast are returning from the first episode, but Nana Harada will replace Ichiro Itano and Kiyoshi Egami as unit director.

Shuuichi Ikeda and Megumi Han are reprising their roles as Edward Mass (later known as Char Aznable, formerly Casval Rem Deikun) and Sayla Mass (formerly Artesia Som Deikun), respectively. New cast members include:

Ayumi Fujimura as Mirai Yashima
Tohru Furuya as Amuro Ray, reprising the role from other Gundam series
Toshihiko Seki as Char Aznable

Sunrise streamed an English-dubbed trailer in March.

The episode's story moves three years ahead to U.C. 0071. The story will follow the tearful separation of the siblings Casval and Artesia (before they became known as Char and Sayla). It will also feature more of the development of the mobile suits, particularly on the Zeon side.

The anime project adapts Yoshikazu Yasuhiko's manga of the same name, which in turn is inspired by the first Mobile Suit Gundam anime's story. The OVA's first episode, titled "Blue-Eyed Casval," premiered in a limited engagement in Japanese theaters on February 28. Anime Consortium Japan began a premium paid streaming of the episode with both the Japanese and English dubs on its Daisuki service on the same date. Right Stuf, in collaboration with Sunrise, offered the first volume in a Blu-ray Disc/DVD combo pack on April 24.

Dimension W Manga by Darker Than Black/King of Thorn's Iwahara Gets Anime ANN NEWS

Funimation is part of committee for near-future sci-fi action anime

North American anime distributor Funimation announced at its Anime Expo panel on Friday that an anime is adapting the Dimension W manga by Darker than Black character designer and King of Thorn manga creator Yuji Iwahara. Funimation said that it is "part of the committee of the anime" and screened a preview video.

In the story, humanity harnessed a new inexhaustible energy from inventions called "Coils" in 2051. In 2072, a skilled recovery specialist named Kyōma Mabuchi encounters a mysterious, beautiful woman right in the middle of a certain job. It is a fateful encounter that opens the door to the new dimension "W."

Iwahara launched the "near-future science fiction action" manga series in Square Enix's Young Gangan magazine in 2011, and Square Enix is publishing the eighth compiled book volume in July.

Iwahara is best known for creating the original character designs for the Darker than Black television anime series and its Ryūsei no Gemini follow-up. Iwahara also drew the art for the Darker than Black: Shikkoku no Hana manga and created the King of Thorn manga that inspired the anime film of the same name in 2010.

Tokyopop published the King of Thorn manga in North America, while Funimation released the Darker than Black anime. Yen Press published Iwahara's Cat Paradise manga, and CMX Manga published Chikyu Misaki.
