It's funny, the more money a business pulls in, the more money they try to save by cutting corners on customer service and basic infrastructure upgrades. I'm sure the forum issues are just an annoyance to a tiny percentage of their users, but their daily 2 hour shut down has to be losing them gobs of customers. They need to use the money we are paying them and the stability they gained from being bought out by AT&T to hire some competent programmers and stop farming out their IT to third world countries.

Yeah, honestly, the only thing keeping me to this site is familiarity with the anime forum. God knows there are far too many things wrong with the site, but for the one thing that pushed it from funny to just plain pathetic was there continued inaction on not fixing the ability to make new topics. It's just so ridiculously stupid for a forum, that it's not even a question about whether or not they care about this site.

This is honestly one of the better communities, in a few ways. Namely, it is not the cesspool that is MyAnimeList, nor is it social media like Twitter or Facebook.

I do not particularly like Discord, or in actuality just the open servers. Too many children talking about juvenile and quite frankly banal topics, or the basic back and forth flirtations that are mind-numbingly meaningless. I have met a few friends past and present that I managed to establish a meaningful rapport with, but it many Discords have the same casual culture reminiscent of dating chatrooms.

I like trading ribald jokes and engage in a pun-off, and flirting with attractive female imoutos who flirt back with me, but 99% of the time, it is solely that, and it feels soulless.

Here, Crunchyroll has actual discussions. If I am unable to form any meaningful friendships, at the very least I want to be stimulated in more places than my crotch area.

Edit: Might as well add a shoutout to my favorite Discord Imouto. I love you Palm-Top! Nii-san is cheering you on!

Edit: Ya'll should try talking to me in real time. I spent an hour or so trolling people in my home servers by turning every sentence I typed into a rhyme. It is a cool party trick, believe me.

The format of a forum lends to more constructed discussion. Chat rooms, particularly ones with any activity, don't encourage much depth of thought when your words are just passing by most people. In real time, I tend to be either a show of emotion or just the facts kind of personality. Most anything that resembles wit or form coming from myself is usually at a more ponderous speed that doesn't lend well to group conversation, so a forum format is enjoyed. As PeripheralVisionary said, I don't think public servers could give us the experience we want, and trying to bring the desired breadth of engagement to a private one seems tedious and naive.

If these forums went to total trash then I guess I'd finally make that MAL account. It's disappointing we'd lose all the atmosphere we've worked to shape here, and we would be starting over as the new kids on the block in what I'm guessing is a bigger community. I was sure hoping that when the forums came back the other day that they would have actually fixed some features. I guess they did. The forum is viewable again.

If this persists or gets worse I suppose I might cave and use Discord for a private message option or doomsday scenario. Getting either one from Crunchyroll seems about as likely at this point.

OT: I too am a fan of zoom cuts. (How is it I can't find the Your Name zoom anywhere, but everyone seems to have him grabbing his tits available?) My favorite two things about MHA is its relation of bold (and slightly reckless) heroism to the American way, and just watching All Might jump through the city in the 2nd opening.

I’m reading the Tegami Bachi manga, it’s a weird deviation from the anime, because while the events are the same, they carry out differently. Like some characters who were evil in the anime are good in the manga.

Speaking of which I kind of want a Shonen to watch, is black clover at all entertaining? I never got into it because when I read the first few chapters of the manga it really seemed like a cheap Naruto knockoff.

I do wonder.

I obviously enjoy the forums. I got in through what used to be General Discussion, and then I realized the anime side was far more enjoyable. And being able to write and talk here has been a lot of fun, and a positive addition to my anime experience. So I hope the forums don't go away.

I get the impression that there are fewer people here than a couple years ago, though. I wouldn't know how practical it is for Crunchyroll to continue to have them; there are certainly other places one can talk about anime online. But I like the way it's structured here: r/anime is a huge mess, such that it's difficult to find anything there; the episode threads there are enormous. Here things are much more focused. I don't know about other forums relevant to the anime community, but it seems to me that having a place to talk on the streaming site makes a lot of sense. They're not going to get rid of comments on the videos, after all, which means some kind of forum functionality is necessary.

I could see why they might want to get rid of private messaging, though, as we don't really need that. It makes it more of a community, but if people aren't using it then it's understandable they'd think of getting rid of it. I just hope nothing disappears before they give us an opportunity to back up our content. I've written a damn lot here.

The thing is, with the forums here on CR, or well at least on the anime side, you have a consistent group of maybe 15 or so people? that actively like to engage in meaningful conversation rather than being very obnoxious and or pushing some agenda. (Even though those kinds of people show up every so often).Plus since its so small here, its not too cluttered with differing ideas, which makes it easier to follow some conversation that happens Also the comment section has been broken for so long ;-;

Yeah there used to be a lot of us but we all just became more engrossed with other interests and such I'd say, drifiting apart happens (also the fact that discord also came around, made it easier to comminicate rather than just quoting peeeps all the time to get their attention)

In addition, people were also tired of loli talk in general and what not which lead to a split among the people here

And then more people were also tired of the condescension and the other interests talk, which led to more splits. People just got uppity and opinions conflicted.

Or, ya'know, people also get busier with life and move on to other things.

Any place like this is going to bleed out eventually without anything pushing regular infusions. Stuff like the night crew doesn't even seem real anymore. Maybe we should properly document our history before the forums are gone for good.

It was also just a different time in the fandom, coming off the back of simulcasts becoming a thing, etc.

We got to enjoy that high for a couple years but looking back I doubt it was sustainable.

Darkest Dungeon feels like... just 10% too grindy for me. It's so close to being just right.

Might fix itself if I can get past the initial bit and start building up a little power.

One of the two brothers I'm good friends with from church that I game with a lot has played quite a bit of that when the other brother and I are on Fortnite sometimes. He really likes it, but gets easily frustrated, cause apparently his teammates do some really dumb things sometimes, and often get hit with status effects at the worst possible times. I think there was a Siren enemy that I remember gave him a bit of a challenge simply because it kept charming his tank

Watching last exile ginyoku no fam again. I gotta say I really love adventure sci-fi anime. It’s why as many problems as it has I prefer Macross over Gundam. Gundam is usually more about politics and personal grudges. Where as Macross has a big slice of life element to it.

I tried a veteran dungeon, 3/4 dead and the survivor came back with the negative quirk Nervous.

Poor guy.

I played this a couple years ago and got a lot further but I'm starting a new campaign this time.

Last Exile used such depressing colors. The setting was cool though. It's on my plan to finish list somewhere.

Finished the tegami bachi manga. It had a symbolic ending. Not much a fan of those. The ride was fun though, lots of good characters.

Since I'm getting through the second half of Re:Zero on a dub rewatch, I'm remembering why I love the series so much. It just does a naturally great job of knocking characters down without it seeming like a plot device. Felt's story, Wilhelm's story, Rem and Ram's story, the way Subaru goes all Chumbawumba, plus stuff that goes on further down the line past the anime, it's all full of people having what would really understandably be life-ending/breaking events, but they still keep pushing forward.

It's really just a great story of survival, and the fact no one really gets an easy out like so many other series gives it a different weight.
