Also I despise Windows Update. It doesn't even tell me it's doing anything til I open task manager to see why everything is suddenly awful now. Edit: It didn't tell me this update failed two days ago either. I could've just done it manually wtf.

For like, 3 months, my gaming PC kept failing to install updates, until it got to the point it was trying every night and taking about an hour to try to install them, not being able to, and then undoing all changes. Finally, after a decent amount of troubleshooting, restored some stuff, and it was apparently the fact that I had removed Cortana from operating that was causing the update issues. I really hate being forced into all these "new and fancy" "helpful" tools with electronics... Let me opt out of Cortana, Bixby, etc, PLEASE. I don't need intrusive programs that gather my info, just let me operate my stuff on my own

*quietly goes and reactivates Cortana*

Edit: Or I would, if I could find wherever I remember turning it off at. It seems on now, fine I guess.

Yeah, had no idea how to reimplement it for myself, but there was like, a certain command to run to restore different settings and features and stuff.

Also, apparently the reason they made a bunch of changes with the Eva release on Netflix (and possibly the reason it was licensed to Netflix in the first place over Funi) is because the original screening of Eva 3.33 at Otakon was a huge chucklefest with all the interactions between Shinji and Kaworu amped up in gayness which made the crowd act like idiots at their ship being "confirmed", and there was actually someone from Khara in the audience, who needless to say didn't like a movie that was supposed to be taken seriously being laughed at a bunch thanks to the localization. So that was the reason for the long delay of the Funi Blu-Ray release, and now Khara has all their stuff translated by their own hired translators and checks the deliveries of all lines to make sure it matches Anno's vision.

Of course, this was something posted on SomethingAwful recently, but with Funi's history of going for wokeness in dubs with stuff like Prison School and Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid, it doesn't surprise me that they'd even mess with Eva. So, bit of a lose-lose scenario. We either get an overly literal translation that has some weird lines then, or we get hamminess that doesn't honor the original work

Any hot takes kind of lack the necessary evidence to be credible imo. Everyone's just going to fill in the blanks with whatever they'd assume about such an event in general cause that's what fits to them the most.

I did see someone say on Twitter that English could have been the master translation used as a basis for all the other languages which would explain its stricter literalness. But just as a possibility with how translating works.

Edit: I can see Khara's overcontrol of the script leading to the awkward English after the 3.0 delays though.

So I found a thing about enabling CortanaConsent in the registry and did that after a restore point so I guess I'm now at the...

...stage.

Man I'm pooped. WoW dropped two new zones today and you want to grind both of them for 2-3 weeks to unlock flying, but I just did one of them and I tired. I'm wondering why they didn't stagger the mechagnome zone release a bit.

Maybe I'll be more up for it after a nap.

Edit: Still a very pleasant change from just cycling 10 alts through world quests all the time though.

Edit: Although now I guess I'm just cycling 10 alts threw new stuff though. Basic bethric gear is cheap though and outmodes all the old world quests so the only real long term commitment is the grind for flying on one character.

Well Steam Summer Sale is here, and there are so many good games. I think I may actually end up spending a few hundred dollars this year, I usually try to keep it under $100.

One thing that really makes me want to buy all the cheaper games right now though is the situation with Dragon Quest XI.

Around Christmas I think it was I bought it for like $20, and it's not on sale at all right now, it's the full $59.99. So I'm afraid that if I miss this opportunity it will literally be a year or longer before the games go on sale for so low again.

"Wow that's a cool new mount, I wonder what achievement or content you get it from."
"$25 IN THE IN-GAME STORE OR FREE WITH A 6-MONTH SUBSCRIPTION."

Also last time I remember this happening it was to spur people into a long subscription period because there was a content drought coming, so I guess someone is cynical about this patch keeping people around until December.

I wish that more games were designed to be hard, and then added an easy difficulty.

Dragon Quest 7 on the PS1 was genuinely difficult, but the version on 3DS is like stupidly easy. I haven't even come close to dying in a boss fight yet. I know it often sounds like a "tough guy" attitude to say things like these, but having games be challenging actually makes them more memorable and the experience more worthwhile. It's why FROM is as popular of a developer as they are, the inherent difficulty of their games makes the experience that much more rewarding.

.hack//GU remaster was also unfortunately trivially easy.

For sure. Players wanting a casual, relaxed experience that flows easily should certainly be given that option, but those who actually want a difficult experience should be attended to as well. To some extent you can impose challenges on yourself to make comparatively easy games more difficult, like "no touch" or "pacifist" runs, item/ability bans, low level runs, and so on. But ideally players wanting a challenging experience wouldn't have to invent ways to get it.

I remember times where I'd be playing a Final Fantasy game and have to stop and concoct a battle plan in order to even advance. A monster might be able to break through immunity to petrification, or impose a time limit by dooming the party at the beginning of the fight, or even just have an absurd amount of hit points. Those were the parts I loved most, because I got to feel clever for figuring out a way to deal with that obstacle.
