Non Non Biyori Repeat - The whole series reminds me of my childhood growing up in the rural US. All the characters are adorable and the situations are so innocent. A pleasure to watch over and over.

Final Four

My vote goes to Food Wars-Shokugeki no Soma

Funny thing is, I watched the first two episodes last week and really loathed the show. Sure, the presentation of the cooking and the meals was amazing, but I couldn't stand the protagonist and felt that the ''literal foodgasms'' gag got old pretty quickly, and even was uncomfortable to watch at times.

Just a few weeks ago however I decided to give the show another try seeing how people who felt the same way I did at first were enjoying the second season and I'm definitely happy with the decision. Soma becomes a much more likable once his more positive traits are emphasized and he becomes more humble after seeing that his classmates have talents of their own as well and isn't afraid to learn from them. The reactions to the food also got more varied and imaginative which was another plus. The third episode introduces Megumi which is factor that made my opinion turn 180 degrees; she's a very endearing character and it is pleasant to watch her work her hardest to be on par with the others in spite of her previous failures.

So that's my 2 cents on Food Wars, should it pass to the final round, I'll most likely say less about it. Heck, not even sure what I'd vote for in the finale

2015 Show Spotlight

Food Wars

Synopsis (Taken from MAL)

Ever since he was a child, fifteen-year-old Souma Yukihira has helped his father by working as the sous chef in the restaurant his father runs and owns. Throughout the years, Souma developed a passion for entertaining his customers with his creative, skilled, and daring culinary creations. His dream is to someday own his family's restaurant as its head chef.

Yet when his father suddenly decides to close the restaurant to test his cooking abilities in restaurants around the world, he sends Souma to Tootsuki Culinary Academy, an elite cooking school where only 10 percent of the students graduate. The institution is famous for its "Shokugeki" or "food wars," where students face off in intense, high-stakes cooking showdowns.

As Souma and his new schoolmates struggle to survive the extreme lifestyle of Tootsuki, more and greater challenges await him, putting his years of learning under his father to the test.

You can watch the entire season on Crunchyroll here!

Voter Spotlight

"This show is just the complete package. It has great characters, incredible character development, intense action, incredible fantasy scenes when it comes to tasting food, and above all, the show's story is perfectly laid out and executed. This leads to a show that's served on a golden platter. Compliments to J.C. Staff and company for producing this tasty show that gets even better with the Second Plate going on right now."

- Bakaneer

What is this?

For this year's tourney I decided to add a 2015 Show Spotlight on the front page of the thread. Throughout the tourney I'll have different shows here that I think deserve a little more attention. I won't solely put shows I like on here, I'll also look through the thread and see what shows other people are talking about. Another thing, I will also put up spectacular votes about the certain show on this page so that everyone can see. If you put the time and effort into a vote, I think you deserve a little recognition.

Vote: Food Wars
I really appreciated how this show managed to give its characters the spotlight even in situations where it would be easy to let them get lost in the shuffle of big events. While this does apply mostly to Souma and Megumi, there were plenty of situations where the various rival figures as well as the other residents of the polar star dorm received their fair share of the spotlight, which is something I particularly appreciated about the show; once it got going, it actively avoided leaving characters in the dust, and not merely in a token "here's this character's obligatory screentime" kind of way. As the show went on, it really made an effort to establish a foundation with its characters in order so it could have something on which to build its bigger events, and for me at least, that's close to a surefire way to grab and hold my interest in the long term; that's what happened with Food Wars, that's one of the key reasons why I appreciate it so much more than others of its kind, and that's why I feel compelled to vote for it here.

Food Wars - I love the characters, with main character mature enough to understand that he has his faults and he is in Totsuki to learn to be even greater also by making mistakes. Characters were great and the idea of cooking fights instead of more (usual?) fist/jutsu/magic fight is very refreshing and... is working well on appettite Didn't watch much of Non Non Biyori, I plan to do it later sometime though

A Moe Trash Vote!

Non Non Biyori Repeat

Hey, NNB can do intense battle scenes, too...

This is pretty much purely a slice of life anime, with no real story to speak of, but it's an amazing anime, nonetheless. Renge seems to be the most popular in the series, but every other character has awesome moments, too, and they're all just such a joy to watch. It may not be action-packed, but you don't need to be a fast paced battle anime to be good. This is a nice, calming show, with plenty of heartwarming and highly amusing moments. In the world of slice of life anime, this is easily top tier.

Non Non Biyori I voted Snow White just because i thought no way would it possibly beat Jojo's. Maybe I can upset a lot of people this match too lol. If I could compare the intensity and hype of much mentioned ruler game in NNB it'd be Karasuno vs Aoba Johsai in Haikyuu!! Or when Guy-sensei releases the Eight Inner Gates. NNB is an awesome slice of life. I laugh when I see the forumers whose favorite anime are like violent seinen bloodbaths or psychological mind f-cks commenting on how they also love NNB. It's that kind of anime, that pulls everyone in.

Food Wars -- because it has a dude voice by Takahiro Sakurai who likes to lounge in nothing but a teddy bear apron. (Even though that's less than hygienic.)

This is a vote

Non Non Biyori Repeat - Not because it's cute but because the things that are cute about are a real sort of cute, rather than fetishistic saccharine cutesy. Also because there's a nice mix of tranquility, sadness, awkwardness, and joy.

Let us again say good night to Pillow Boys and scowl at everyone who didn't vote for:
